I had to read this blog, just to see if my college French did me any good. I was very pleased to say that I understood most of it without reading the translation. I guess I paid more attention than I thought...

Thanks Tiff! I'm sure I will be writing soon. Right now I seem to be more focused on poetry, but prose will come to me. I just need to organize it. As for the French, I actually had to ask a French-speaking person about the meaning of one of the words. The word, conduire, does mean drive. It could also be lead. Translations are rarely, if ever, exact. There are some phrases in Spanish that would sound like dependent clauses if literally translated into English. The same can be said of French. Sentence structure in Romance languages is much different than that of Germanic languages like English.

I just found a phrase written by my now dead son on an used envelope : " la confiance, cela s'apprend".

"confidence (or trust or faith in), you have to (or you can) learn it".

For me, its a lesson.

That's a great lesson. There are lessons to be learned in all languages. Languages are simply tools, but the meanings of words are the greatest significance.
