A New Years Resolution

So, my mother has decided on a New Years Resolution. Lets overlook the fact that she's a tad early, cause hey preparedness is key right? Anyhow, her resolution is to get me to talk more...

I dunno how to feel about this. Mostly whenever we seem to talk anymore things become, well heated would be a nice way of phrasing it I guess. We have differing opinions on things... Religion, Politics, etcetera etcetera etcetera...

I guess I came to the conclusion a few years ago "Why say anything when it will only cause strife." and I have sort of stuck to it. I don't even care to speak on the phone for extended periods of time. But that is a whole different thing that concerns being worried I'm bugging people when I call them.

End game being I perhaps don't speak so much, could be because outside of sharing genetics there is scarcely little I have in common with my family anymore.

This realization is kinda screwed I guess, but its part of growing right?

Anyhow... I think I may be scared as to her planned methods.

Preparing to be de-silenced

Steve

hmmm, I think a negotiator be better but who can afford one.

Communication goes both ways. A common language and a common understanding.

It sounds like it take two to work at it.

But it sounds like both have to agree not to cause strife and thats probably the biggest challenge.

There has to be a truce - cease hostilities - on both sides

Don't be afraid to try to communicate and keep practicing.

Tell her that you will talk to her more, once she finds you a nice boyfriend... that way, you'll have something to talk to her about (ie, life with the boyfriend)...

Wait, how is that her resolution when you have to do the work (talking)?

Tell her that she needs a typical resolution like losing weight, exercise more, quit smoking, etc.

But if she does insist, maybe she likes having debates and differing opinions with her son :)

Take Care,

Vic

P.S. - I'm still confused why you aren't loving Portillo's. Have you tried the italian beef with the sausage in it? Lot's of hot peppers? Plus a side of fries, definitely the fries :)

It's the twisted psychology of overbearing moms... They think they have an umbilical chord b/w their babies that can never be cut.
