Davey Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Well Im just home from my first day at my new job and what fun it was! Ive spent the day doing an introduction speech to my new team (three groups of 75)Oh and ben I decided against the cardboard cut out idea . The next group (25) will be done tommorow PM cause there nightshift workers. Ive gotta nice office with a comfy chair big Ikea style desk and lost of gadgets to play with. The staff seem nice and well motivated so I think this will be a good job. Just can't wait till the next two weeks are up so I can get Paid! Im guessing that they have heard im gay since Chris heard in his office that the new manager in the superstore is gay. He said to his coworkers that he knew that already. They asked him how he knew and he just blurted out "cause im sleeping with him" LOL. Since they seem to know no one has seemed off about it so alls good. Cheers Dave
NaperVic Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Dave, Congrats on what sounded like a great first day! It sounds like you didn't have to deal with outing yourself at work. Whenever I ever started a new job, I had to guage how much I wanted people to know, not always telling the 'truth' upfront. With my most recent job, I started out from Day 1 letting people know I was gay (no vague pronouns or references to 'roomate') and it worked out for the best. Hope you continue to enjoy your new job as well as now living with your bf. Take Care, Vic
fatboyfat Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Glad to hear that there seems to be little homophobia in the UK! Hope that trend, and the trend of you having good days at work continue I'm still trying to find a job! Had a few interviews but no offers yet. Cheers, Neil PS. What's the 'opposite' of homophobia? I mean is there a word meaning 'acceptance of gays'? Perhaps homoacceptance should be a word LOL
BoyNeedsTherapy Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 (edited) Glad your first day went well Dave, and while the cardboard cut out idea sounded like a good one, it might be best that you didn't go with that idea! It's cool too that there's not been a problem thus far with you being gay, hope it stays like that (I laughed when I read about your bf's comment btw, one way to make sure they're certain I guess ) I've never come out at any job I've had, mainly because I've only had two, lol, and one of those was in the office my mother worked at. But at uni I think it's always been pretty obvious, what with my incessant rambling about my boyfriend, and him meeting me after classes and being greeted with hugs and kisses, I think I gave myself away, lol. Anyhoo, glad it went well and hope it carries on the same way Oh yeah, and I suppose that technically the opposite of phobic is philic, so someone that really likes gay people would be homophilic I guess... fatboyfat Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Oh yeah, and I suppose that technically the opposite of phobic is philic, so someone that really likes gay people would be homophilic I guess... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It seems 'homophile' is in the dictionary but it seems to be treated predominantly as a synonym of gay: Dictionary.com definition. I guess it's an unfortunate truth that most people who fit the 2nd meaning in that definition also probably fit the first meaning. Apologies to everyone for going off-topic Cheers, Neil
BoyNeedsTherapy Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Hehe, I quite like the term homophile...I want it on a badge or something, although I think it may cause confusion.
