Damnit (it was the name of my cat, it is not cursing) now I can't directly reply because I will read the spoiler. See how much you prefer those 'rainbow' types to me.

Oh, and don't go crying to Mark, like he gives a crap about HP. :P

Just read Spirit of James. Will start in on The Ordinary Us shortly.

I have read The Spirit of James and loved it, perhaps hoping in the back of my mind for more of a story there..., but I am intruiged by DD because of the situation that Rory is in with his Mom since it happened in my family, but I am really loving TOU, I just can't wait to see where Dom will take us next... wherever it is I will follow along willingly and I am sure it will be well worth it. I guess the thing I love most about Dom's stories is that you "feel" what his characters feel, you laugh when they do, you are scared or frustrated for them, and you get to experience the human nature of relationships right along with them. Keep it up Dom... we love you, obviously. Viv

I've got a cat like that.

Sir, I've got some really interesting ideas for the Imperial Religion. Starting with- who needs alter boys? How about we replace them with Cabana boys?

Instead of all that stuffy MASS business, change worship services to a nightclub format where instead of preists, we listen to stand-up pastors sipping Gin & Tonics?

Are you kidding?!  That's like choosing between my children!

HOW CAN I PICK JUST ONE?!?!  Read them all simultaniously.

Umm... at 15, how many children do you have?

Nevermind, I don't want to know.

:king: Snow Dog

Technically, I could have several children by now, for all you know...

Doesn't matter, I hate kids anyway.

How can you hate kids? Kids are awsome until they turn 14.

Isn't Mikie 14? *snicker*

Yes, yes he is, after 14 it all depends upon how they were raised by their parents. In Mikie's case, he had a lot to deal with and being an arrogant, self-centerd, high-and-mighty prick would have gotten in the way communicating with and learning to function in the hearing world.

The contrapositive of a statement is not the same as the statement itself. Saying "Don't screw anyone who is not named Mark" is not the same thing as saying "Screw Mark". In simple binary logic thay are often considered the same, but in formal predicate logic thay are not. Besides, Mark might have something to say about it. :P

Just a little bump here-

I read The Ordinary Us and just finished The Log Way this morning.

Dom, you are something my friend. To be your age and have the kind of power, insight and craft in your writing is simply amazing.

JS,

Just out of curiousity, which did you like better? TLW or TOU?

I can't say. They were very different stories about the same journey. Both stories had strong and deep themes about friendship, loyalty and the transforming and healing power of love.

They were both very well done. I was most impressed with the way Dom handled the emotional content of the stories and difficult issues that the characters were facing. Owen's abuse, Quinn's confusion, Janie's idiotic homophobia and Adam's confusion over what he had been taught, his experience and loyalty to his friends.

TLW had very disturbing elements like abuse and alcoholism but it didn't leave us with despair and angst. It showed a bunch of kids, their healing, relationships and growth.

TOU had disturbing aspects as well but it too showed the characters change and grow through their difficulties.

As far as characters go, Dom paints complex and dynamic personalties with both strengths and weaknesses, faults and virtues.

Two of the most interesting personalties of all were Dennis Gordon and the sharp witted Taylor. Dennis Gordon starts out as your typical homophobic high school bully but as we learn more we find him to be a scared, lonely and insecure boy. It is interesting how through the course of TLW, he was transformed from the villian that everyone could hate to the sympathetic victim of a bad situation.

Taylor- I know that I've met and loved this guy in another life. If TOU ever goes to the big screen, only Seth Green could do him justice.

Just a few thoughts as I bask in the afterglow ot two remarkable stories. Well done Dom. I am proud to join the ranks of the Dom-a-holics. :D

Seth Green, yes that's a very good idea! He would make an excellent Taylor. Hadn't occured to me though.

I agree TOU and TLW are both really excellent. I started reading TOU and read up until about chapter 15 or so, when suddenly to my horror I realized the story was incomplete and I'd have to WAIT to see how it ended  LOL it was worth the wait though! In the meantime I wanted more and realized that TLW was (by this time) complete. So I figured even if it were only half as good as TOU it would be worth it! At the time I really didn't see how it could be nearly as good as TOU. But then I started reading it, and by about chapter 10 "This is a date!", I realized I liked it BETTER. It was a truly amazing story, and I have to say it only got better and better the further we got into Aiden and Owen's relationship. Probably the main reason I ultimately came to prefer TLW though, is because it's more romantic than TOU, and because right from the start I found Owen more likable than Quinn (or Rory). So while I also love TOU and DD very much and am basically equally obsessed with each, it's just more fun being in Owen's head :boy: .......On the other hand I find Jude and Luke hotter than Aiden (physically anyway), so I guess it's more fun to see them :P . On yet another hand though (yes I realize I've got three hands now) I still think Aiden and Owen's first time is the best sex scene I've ever read anywhere. Just because it seemed so meaningful (as well as hot).

James,

Dom also has a short story titled 'The spirit of James'.

The Log Way (TLW) is my favorite, but I'd also read The Ordinary Us (TOU).

Also you may take note that it's going to be called "The Log Way", not "The Long way". I think when Dom submitted the first chapter long ago, he'd had a typo and it stuck or something. Anyway the link Kitty gave you will take you to Dom's main page, it's the Third name plate thing down, in blue, right below "Desert Dropping" and above "The Ordinary Us". And in case you'd prefer to just jump right to it. Here's the link to the first chapter, you can then find the rest at the bottom of the page.
