Popular Post old bob Posted April 1, 2010 Popular Post Posted April 1, 2010 I just checked today my profile and found that my reputation changed from 16 to 18. I dont know why. Can somebody explain it ? 6
YaP Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I am not sure, but i think thats the result of "votings" on your posts (the + and - buttons on the bottom right of each post). Seems like people like what you post ;-)
NaperVic Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 (edited) There's a discussion thread that started when the rep system became available: Discussion Thread on the Rep System But as Yap said, the reputation count is the sum of all the times people 'Pos' one your forum posts minus all the times people 'Neg' one of your threads. So if your rep moved from 16 to 18, that means two of your forum posts have been recently Possed. Then again, it could mean 3 of your forum posts have been recently Possed, and one has been Negged. Or 10 of your forum posts have been Possed, and 8 Negged. You get the idea. Edited April 1, 2010 by NaperVic
JamesSavik Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 (edited) It can't be that good. I've got 145. ______________________________ OH ya didn't like that? It over 150 now. Edited April 19, 2010 by jamessavik
old bob Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) It can't be that good. I've got 145. James, you are a lord here with your result ! I am a dwarf beside Your Majesty. But going from 16 to 19 is an increase of 19 % ! That's enough for me, I'm more humble than Your Highness . Edit EasterMonday : Wow I score now 21 (excellent) ! I'm no more a dwarf Edited April 5, 2010 by old bob 1
*HJ* Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 I have been wondering what that reputation thing was! Wow haha I have a rep of one....hmmm I wonder if that means I'm not liked or people just don't care about poor little old me . Then again i'm not very active som i'm gussing that could be the reason . 3

Wow haha I have a rep of one....hmmm I wonder if that means I'm not liked or people just don't care about poor little old me . Then again i'm not very active som i'm gussing that could be the reason . The reason probably is because, like me, most people have either never seen the little + - boxes, and if they did, they had no idea what they were. I've just given you a + to cheer you up. 2

I seem to ping pong around in the twenties. I guess a tiger can't be loved by all. 4

Adam Phillips Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 More activity is a double-edged sword. The Soapbox is a place where you're more likely to get negged. Boy, howdy. Ain't that the truth. I seem to ping pong around in the twenties. I guess a tiger can't be loved by all. Well, maybe anti-evolutionist know-it-alls don't love ya, but I do, Tiger. 2
Tiger Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 My reputation just doubled in 1 week! That's good. I think mine has too. Oh, and now you have yet another point. 2
PrivateTim Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Boy, howdy. Ain't that the truth. Well, maybe anti-evolutionist know-it-alls don't love ya, but I do, Tiger. Reputation should be based on on how nice or not nice you are not deeply held beliefs. No one got trashed more than Joey in the evolution thread and Joey is a very sweet guy. I also suspect the assault on Joey was a coordinated effort. It seems so petty and high schoolish. 2

(to the coordinated part, and that it was an assault). It was the soapbox, not the lounge. Isn't that the area in which members are allowed to debate? Yes, it got a bit hot-headed, but I thought everyone made nicey nice at the end (for the most part). I am sure Joey is a nice person. We weren't debating about whether we were nice people in the thread, we were debating whether we "believed" in evolution and why or why not. The percentage of people who believed to not believe was quite skewed, so perhaps that played a part in why it seemed he got "trashed" and that it was "coordinated." I thought the + and - were for us to use when we liked a post or agreed with a post. Some posts might be about beliefs. For example, if I posted that due to my religion, I am anti-gay rights/equality, I'm sure I'd get neg'd out the door. Thank goodness that this is NOT the case. 3

Nightsky seems to understand what pos-ing or neg-ing a post means and what the reputation stands for. People who have strong opinions on a topic (particularly in the soapbox, where many members have strong beliefs) should expect their posts to be rep-ed. If you want to acknowledge a member for being nice, you can vote their 'User Rating' by rating them from 1 to 5 stars. Another option would be to add them as a friend. Joey is a nice person, and to be fair, he chose to post in the Evolution topic, which was in the Soapbox. Also, his position, at least on this website, is definitely the minority view. But there is a warning in the Soapbox. The SoapboxA place for loud, opinionated discussions Do NOT enter this forum if you are weak of heart or mind.

Lugh Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 heh Arbour should know. He speaks from experience. I'm just happy if mine stays positive, who cares really how far into the positive it is? It's just a number.

It's just a number. Indeed, and I do too. I've made some unpopular comments in the Soapbox. It's par for the course though. I'm a political extremist.
nightsky Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 People who have strong opinions on a topic (particularly in the soapbox, where many members have strong beliefs) should expect their posts to be rep-ed. That's why there are warnings on the Soap Box forum, to remind people who can't handle being neg'ed or can't handle a heated conversation that it's a place they should avoid. In the Lounge, you can get a negative point for being a jerk. In the Soap Box, it usually comes from disagreeing with the predominant viewpoint AND not having a logical reason for doing so. Perhaps we should rename the Soapbox: "THE KITCHEN: if you can't take the heat- stay out" Just to be clear though... does the rep have anything to do with whether we can continue to post in the forums? Hypothetically speaking, if someone gets a negative rep of eleventybillion and one, do they get put on probation or kicked out?
