Site Administrator wildone Posted April 9, 2010 Site Administrator Posted April 9, 2010 Hey all, Thought I would start a thread to see if there is any interest in having a hockey playoff pool for this years Stanley Cup Playoffs. I ran the same contest last year, if you want to see what rules we had, it would be much the same as this one . Why I want to gauge the interest is that last year we only had two entries. Yes, it is true that Mark Arbour was beaten out by a girl , but she was Canadian so that was against him to start off with. I would probably offer up the same prize, a six month Premium Membership to GA or a donation to GA in lieu of the membership made in the winners name. Let me know if you're interested, and then I'll let you know. Thanks, Steve
Site Administrator wildone Posted April 9, 2010 Author Site Administrator Posted April 9, 2010 Can anyone join this? Yes, anyone who is a member of GA is eligible

Currently, the playoffs would be: EAST 1. Washington Capitals (53-15-12) vs. 8. Philadelphia Flyers (40-34-6) 2. New Jersey Devils (46-27-7) vs. 7. Montreal Canadiens (39-33-9) 3. Buffalo Sabers (44-26-10) vs. 6. Boston Bruins (37-30-13) 4. Pittsburgh Penguins (46-27-7) vs. 5. Ottawa Senators (44-31-6) WEST 1. Chicago Blackhawks (51-22-7) vs. 8. Colorado Avalanche (43-29-8) 2. San Jose Sharks (49-20-11) vs. 7. Los Angeles Kings (45-27-7) 3. Vancouver Canucks (48-27-5) vs. 6. Nashville Predators (46-29-6) 4. Phoenix Coyotes (49-25-6) vs. 5. Detroit Red Wings (42-24-14) Of course, there are still 1-2 games left for every team, so those aren't final yet.

Yikes Mark I'd maybe wait till the end of the season and we know what places the team are in. That was last year's picks by Mark that you used . The Blues are not even in it this year and the Flyers might not make it either. Wait till the end of the week. But good to see you are going to enter
Mark M Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 *SMACK!* i am the worst canadian ever to pretend he actually likes the sport hockey. Ok Honesty i don't like it, i like the way the players come out of it HOT as hell and with the best Bubble Butts Ever! Anyway i'll guess with this years teams then! Either way Detroit Red Wings Win!!!!!!!!!
Ramon Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 I agree with the Bubble Butts but not with the team. lol Canucks will win this year!!
Tarin Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 I'd be willing to enter, but I'd need step by step instructions of how to do it. I've never done a pool before let alone an online one. 1
gabrielsknife Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 I'm such a bad, yo-yo hockey fan >.< Are the Carolina Cains in the running this year? 'Cause if they are, ya'll are going down! *waves his little Cains flag* (Bet ya'll can't guess where I'm from lol!)
MikeL Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 I'd be willing to enter, but I'd need step by step instructions of how to do it. I've never done a pool before let alone an online one. I'm interested, too, depending on the format. If you make it too complicated, I'll pass. Thanks for setting this up.
Camilo Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Im definitely In! Go Bruins!!! of course you are, of course you are
BlueSoxSWJ Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I'm such a bad, yo-yo hockey fan >.< Are the Carolina Cains in the running this year? 'Cause if they are, ya'll are going down! *waves his little Cains flag* (Bet ya'll can't guess where I'm from lol!) Unfortunately for you, Carolina will finish somewhere between 10th and 14th in the East, depending on this weekend's results. (They're currently in the 11 spot.) Only the top 8 make it. The 8 teams from the West are set, as are 5 of the 8 from the East, with 4 teams (Boston, Montreal, Philly, New York Rangers) fighting for the last 3 spots. Boston and Montreal clinch with a single point (win or loss in overtime/shootout) in their final 2/1 game(s). Philly and New York play each other in their last game, and the winner gets in. The loser can still get in, but only if they lose in overtime or a shootout, AND Boston and Montreal fail to earn another point.
Nephylim Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I don't think I understood a word of that... well maybe I understood the words but not the way they were put together

Toast Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I will play, can someone print out my ballot complete with the appropriate choices?
Site Administrator wildone Posted April 11, 2010 Author Site Administrator Posted April 11, 2010 Well it seems like there might be some interest this year . Tomorrow, Sunday the Th, is the final day of the regular season and the Eastern conference will have been decided. So I will set something up that will just have the Round One matches and what place each team finished up in. So if your a by the books person and see the ST place team playing the Th place team, you can choose the ST place team. There is really not much skill involved in this, as I don't want to make it too serious or hard. I want people like Nephy and Krista to enter and have some fun seeing how they do and also if they can outscore Mark (The only skill might be if you know things like Vancouver, San Jose and Ottawa are perpetual chokers when it comes to the playoffs ) . So check here tomorrow night or on Monday, and I'll probably give to the end of the second games of the first round (each series is a best of seven games series) to cut off the entries. Remember the more that enters, the more fun it will be .
Ramon Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 The only skill might be if you know things like Vancouver, San Jose and Ottawa are perpetual chokers when it comes to the playoffs . I really want to contest this statement but I can't. I can only hope that the Canucks do better this year. If they win it this year it would truly be wonderful year especially after the Olympics.
BlueSoxSWJ Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Anyone else catch those 3 shorties for the Bs in 64 seconds? That stretch (plus the Winter Classic, of course) may have made the whole season-tickets thing worthwhile. So in the East now, Washington will be number 1, New Jersey and Buffalo will be 2 and 3 (but order to be determined tomorrow when they play), Pittsburgh will be 4, Ottawa 5, Boston 6, and 7-8 will either be Philadelphia-Montreal or Montreal-New York, depending on who wins the New York at Philly game tomorrow. So the only known matchup in the East is 5. Ottawa vs. 4. Pittsburgh. They played 4 times this year and each team won twice. In the West, San Jose holds the number 1, but could switch with number 2 Chicago if the Blackhawks win their final game. Number 3 is Vancouver, 4 Phoenix. 5-6-7 is messy between Detroit, Nashville, and LA, while Colorado will be the 8. So going into the final day of play, 1 of the 8 matchups is set.
Ramon Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 (edited) Easter Conference Washington Capitals (1) vs. Montreal Canadiens (8) New Jersey Devils (2) vs. Philadelphia Flyers (7) Buffalo Sabers (3) vs. Boston Bruins (6) Pittsburgh Penguins (4) vs. Ottawa Senators (5) Western Conference San Jose Sharks (1) vs. Colorado Avalanche (8) Chicago Blackhawks (2) vs. Nashville Predators (7) Vancouver Canucks (3) vs. Los Angeles Kings (6) Phoenix Coyotes (4) vs. Detroit Red Wings (5) When is the last day to submit your predictions/guesses?
