Sooooo...taking a look at Russ Marine's videos has made me want to pick up some good military reading. American military, that is. :)

Only one problem. GA doesn't offer much! :P

So...who can recommend a good story featuring some military men? :)

I've just read a new "period" story by Mickey S called Blitzed. It begins in 1939 on the Queen Mary and is about two high school boys and their families and how they get caught up in WWII - the boys enlist, one in the army, the other in the airforce, and takes you right through the war. It's generally well written, and the writer has obviously done a lot of research to use historical events and period styles of speech. It's a good long read and gives a genuine feeling of "being there" with the characters. I've probably got some more military stories I can dig out if you want.

Just noticed you specified American military - the one family is American and obviously the Americans were in WWII - well from 1942 ... :P

One of my fav 'paranormal' military stories is Strength of the Pack by Kendall Mackenna. It was freaking awesome. I read it twice, straight through, back to back when I got it. I have it on kindle... I believe I can 'loan' it once. If you're really nice to me... :P PM me if you're interested.

I haven't personally read this, but reddirtwriter has a short story called Digitals and Denim.  JamesSavik has what looks like an 80k novel about teenagers and military fighting, even if it isn't formal (maybe a Red Dawn type of piece?) called In the Shadow of the Dragon. I found those via the tag search with 'military'. I know there aren't as many of that type as other stories, but it's a start. Hopefully you can find something you enjoy, or you'll get more suggestions.

Michael9344's The Game series are very well written modern day military stories...no world war, but plenty of special operations action, intrigue and personal battles.  I recommend you try them.

Already did/doing. I read those as he wrote them. :) (And Shadows, as well - looks like he intends to finish that one first before going back to Game. No biggie.)

I checked out Kombat Kids once...but it got to a point where it turned me off. :/

Hmmmmm. Not quite what I had in mind, as I usually don't check out "historical" stories past a certain point in time, but seeing as it's set in WWII, I might check it out.

Haha, that's okay - paranormal-military isn't really what I had in mind either. :P (You've got a missing letter typo in the link to James's story there BTW. ;))
