Artistic Mediums

I was doing some house cleaning the other day and came across my stash of art supplies--various papers, pencils, pastels, charcoal, etc.  It made me realize that it has been several years since I picked up a pencil or did any type of drawing.  I used to draw on a regular basis, but now find I don't really have any desire to do so anymore.  I attribute that to the fact that I've been putting my creative energy into writing vs drawing.

So I was wondering if anyone else has found they've swapped one artistic medium for another, or managed to find a balance between the two.  I'd love to hear thoughts on the matter.

I’m the same as you, actually. I used to draw a lot, but haven’t done it in years.   I would suspect all of my creative energy had gone in to writing as well.

My creativity lays in Writing and Role-Playing. But that is basically two-sides of the same coin, as they say.

I’ve always written, its therapy. Before going blind, I used to draw. While there’s blind artists, it just makes me sad. I enjoy cooking and started knitting to relieve stress. I think it’s natural to outgrow and take on new hobbies and passions.

One energizes the other especially when I can do things that relate to what I'm writing or what some other authors are writing. I'm a multimedia artist so music, animation, video production, and graphics could all factor. I love approaching stories multidimensionally.

I'm the same.  Last year specifically, I was bouncing from writing to drawing to even crocheting and making small, stuffed toys, never really applying my creativity into more than one activity at a time.  I always reverted back to writing since that was the only think I felt I decently mastered since things like drawing or crocheting I'm okay at, but when I want to fully express my feelings or what I want to portray to the world, I always go back to writing.  Though my plan in the future is to incorporate my drawing capabilities and maybe some other art medium into my writing, like for example draw some pictures and say that these drawings belong to a character in one of my stories.  Currently and sort of related, I'm mixing a storytelling card game called Once Upon a Time into my writing, resulting in short stories that I published on this website, which I find very entertaining to do since it gives me a challenge when I draw five random story cards that I have to incorporate into my writing.  In the end, I hope to use some of my other artistic talents to create a more elaborate world that I write about in my stories, which I will always express through writing.
