Where I live, Friday night is traditionally for fish frys, which usually comes with a giant piece of beer-battered haddock, French fries, macaroni or potato salad (or both), cole slaw, and lemon. Some places will sub a garden salad for potato or macaroni salad. Damn... I want fish and chips now. 7

I could tell you ... ... but, as it's my own secret recipe, I'd then have to kill you. Actually it's a version of a Rich Fruit Cake. A typical recipe can be found here. But, as I say, I've adapted it for my own use. In particular, I have used different spices to give it a seasonal flavour. 43 minutes ago, clochette said: Wow I know there is some time difference between Ireland and France but I didn't thought it was counting in weeks, months even! A rich fruit cake only improves with age. It will be wrapped in baking parchment and tinfoil, and unwrapped at weekly intervals and a dessert spoonful of Irish Whiskey carefully poured over to soak into it. About a week before Christmas, I'll cover it in marzipan (almond paste) and then ice it a few days before the big day. Edited November 1, 2019 by Marty Correcting another of my inevitable typos. 8

Plus the cats were crazy all night, chasing leaves through the window. There was lots of damage and flooding from the storm, but thankfully I never lost my power and the basement stayed dry. There's lots of flooding along the Mohawk and the river reached a record high crest. The drive this afternoon was nice, though. Cloudy, no rain, and the wind wasn't too bad. For driving, anyway. It was brutal when I stopped at the rest stops. Because of this storm, the trees definitely look like November trees. Bye bye Fall! Southern areas of where I live are supposed to get 3-6" of snow this weekend. Bleh. I'm at the hotel right now, waiting for my friend to arrive. I brought some soup with me for dinner and am going to take advantage of the down time to do some writing I'll check in when I can Honest, she never heard me, I was very quiet when I snuck in with the treats for the herd. 1 5 1

In my area, it's typically haddock. I love it with malt vinegar too, but I also like fish with lemon. Malt vinegar with fries is delicious. 6

Mum and I will be making fruitcakes after we get back to her home in SC in three weeks. Ideally we would do them earlier but we already have a car full of things. We make small loafpan sized ones. Half will be frozen for next year. They age very well that way. Oh, and we douse ours with bourbon, they are afterall Southern fruitcakes. 7
