They had a very big garden and they had vegetables all year round and feed us all. We never bought veggies. Now we put potatoes and zucchinis at my dad's parents' for the whole family. Dad take care of it when he goes there on Sundays. Might be a nice time to share with the grandkids too. How are they BTW? They're all doing great. My oldest granddaughter just turned two. I would like to grow zucchini and potatoes and carrots for sure. Peppers too... and peas... maybe watermelon... my kids love watermelon.... 1 6

Watermelons are easy to grow. Just pinch the branches without fruits to help the one or the couple that have fruits. It's impressive how quick it grows. Ours was getting 5 centimeters wider every days during the heatwave! 3 3

Have you ever grown spinach? If so, is it easy? Hopefully I still have another year or two with my mare. 7

Hopefully I still have another year or two with my mare. I tried last year but I sow them too late, mid to late February and then it got too hot so they grew to fast instead of making leaves and with the heat we had to face bugs... I'll keep you posted about those from this year. I've sow them 2 weeks ago and they're coming out. Thought you can also sow spinaches in September to have in Autumn/Winter. But yeah of course you've still got lot of time with your mare Edited February 7, 2020 by clochette 6

One of my favorite things to do is make watermelon salsa. Or shaved ice. Potatoes are easy, and zucchini requires a bit more love. Carrots, on the other hand, can be tricky, at least in my experience. There's so many varieties, each with its own preference for soil/fertilizer conditions. And the seeds are so tiny! It can bolt in hot weather though shading it can slow that happening. I've also planted it in the late Fall for a late season crop. Sometimes if the winter isn't too harsh you can get the plants to over winter under a thick covering of a straw mulch. Rabbits and other critters of that ilk are fond of it. I was fortunate a wire tunnel saved most of it. Also, since it's just me I planted some in a large pot. I picked just enough leaves for what I wanted and the plants kept growing new ones. 3 3

I've planted mind in a rectangular flower pot on the window sill at the apartment. Spinaches aren't too picky about space and depth 3 3
