Personally, even though he is openly gay, I don't really like the guy. But he has my total respect over this. Ireland doesn't seem to be doing as badly as some other countries as far as covid-19 is concerned. I think a good part of the reason for that is that our Prime Minister was a doctor in his former life. That's not to say we're having it easy, because we aren't. 3 3

I broke curfew this afternoon and drove the 20 miles to pick up my medication from the pharmacy. Whilst I was there I also bought some fresh fruit and vegetables from the supermarket, along with some fresh meat. And some mushrooms and a few tins of sardines! Sorry, Val and Page (not! ). Oh! I managed to get a garden rake as well! 3 6

Popular Post Marty Posted April 6, 2020 Popular Post Posted April 6, 2020 (edited) Bran cake, fresh from the oven. Same recipe that my mother used when I was a child. Although I did reduce the sugar content, in deference to my Type 2 diabetes status. Edited April 6, 2020 by Marty Clarification 6

You'll probably be glad to know that the recipe is almost American, as it used "cups", instead of ounces or grammes (that's what makes it so easy) Ingredients I cup of All Bran (flakes or buds) I cup of mixed dried fruit 1 cup of sugar 1 cup of cold tea or milk (I use tea) 1 cup of self raising flour (or plain flour with two teaspoons of baking powder or bicarbonate of soda - I use baking powder) Spices to taste (I use one teaspoon of cinnamon and one of mixed spice) Method Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) Line a standard 2lb loaf tin with baking parchment In a bowl combine bran, mixed fruit, sugar and cold tea (or milk) Cover, then leave in fridge overnight Remove from fridge and sift in mixed flour and spices and mix till it has a dropping consistency (Add a tablespoon of water if necessary) Put into lined bread tin Bake in oven for one hour Test after 45 minutes by inserting skewer into centre of cake - if skewer comes out clean the cake is done Allow to cool in the tin. Can be eaten sliced, as is, or spread with butter. Easy-peasey! (Just make sure you line the tin, or it will be difficult to remove) Edited April 6, 2020 by Marty Clarification 1 7

Marty Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 I've just checked, and the cup I use holds 300 ml of water. 5
Albert1434 Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 (edited) 300 ml = 1.268 us cups or 1 1/4 cups tea Edited April 6, 2020 by Albert1434 4
