Popular Post Bucket1 Posted December 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted December 18, 2023 Sad news on the Christmas pudding front - the Lions club where we normally get them is not selling them this year A long held family tradition broken So I need to find a replacement… internet to the rescue our national consumer advice body has done a survey of Christmas puddings and custard. Problem solved 6

Hey Spike! I tried a Christmas pudding sold at a supermarket here. It was a little like fruitcake but better. It had nuts and dried fruits in it, but it was a darker cake and not as heavy as a fruit cake. It may not be the same as Bucket's version. Thais make copies of things, but they are way different than usual. 6

That's my problem, whenever anyone outside the US mentions pudding, I literally never have any idea what they're actually eating. At least with custard, cake, or pie, I have some idea. 1 5

Ummm… no. It is about 50% fruit and is served hot with custard. Definitely more cakey than bready. I agree with Terry, it’s like fruit cake but not as dense. In the old country, it often has a brandy sauce that is set alight. Too much of a fire hazard here Back in the olden days, my grandmother used to make her own and boiled them for ages, the kitchen was hot and steamy. They tasted awesome but there was a serious cost for summer. Then someone invented the microwave now the puddings are all precooked and a quick zap heats them to perfection without turning the house into a sauna 3 5

It almost sounds like a Baked Alaskan, but with fruit in it. Only that isn't served with custard. I've never known how to describe what a Baked Alaskan is, but almost like an English pudding I guess. I only had it once when I was 9-years-old, but it's stuck with me. 9 minutes ago, Bucket1 said: hen someone invented the microwave now the puddings are all precooked and a quick zap heats them to perfection without turning the house into a sauna So even @Drew Espinosa can make a Christmas pudding? 6
Popular Post Bucket1 Posted December 18, 2023 Popular Post Posted December 18, 2023 I know we had a bit of controversy about pineapple on pizza and I understand that people have some views on the matter. However if you want to get people really fighting, ask about iced versus un-iced Christmas cake (really just fruit cake for Christmas) 1 6

However he would be capable of heating the precooked varieties. And if you want to be a bit clever, you slice it first and then heat it. It cuts so much better that way 3 4
