Popular Post dughlas Posted June 23, 2019 Popular Post Posted June 23, 2019 Now as I said I kilted three youngsters. The next two arrived together mums in tow ... or actually the mums arrived with youngsters in tow. Again I've forgotten their names. Am I getting old? Would it be rude to call them "Thing 1" and "Thing 2"? They seemed all about the fun. The families it became obvious are close friends. The lads belonging to the same Scout group. Their whole reason for wanting kilts was so the boys could enter the "Kids in Kilts" contest. Think the minor league for Val's favorite event "Men in Kilts" aka "Best Legs in Kilts". This was a somewhat hurried affair as the contest was to begin shortly and was on the other side of the grounds. Both boys chose the same plaid, primarily a bright kelly green with black and white striping to create the pattern. Very popular with the "Irish" set. Again a soft fabric well suited to young bums. Thing 1 oddly enough was first. I knelt explained the process and we were done. Next up Thing 2 very much rinse and repeat. The boys looked very cute and one of the dads whisked them away with smiles on their faces while the mums remained behind to pay. As I mentioned before some folksΒ have a privilegedΒ mindset. The entire event was memorable only in I kilted two young boys in a span of roughly 10 minutes. The mums didn't give a whit that the kilts would serve them for years to come. They dropped a bunch of money on a whim just so these kids could be part of a silly contest. Understand I made my comission but they had none of the experience of buying first kilts. They might have been buying shoes ... where is the enjoyment in that? 6 1 1

BabyXander1990 Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 31 minutes ago, dughlas said: So kilting stories ... there were no truly memorable adults but I kilted three different 11/12 yearolds.Β Kilting kids can be alot of fun. The first little guy came in with his parents looking for a kilt. I explained we don't do young boys kilts but have fitted lads with an adult small sized kilt. I explained the thing to understand about our kilts is they are patterned after the ancient hiking kilt. They are what is referred to as a "small" kilt. Meaning they only cover from waist to knee. The pleats are stitched in but not pressed and unlike modern kilts there are no fasteners, ie straps and buckles and the kilt is unlined. The lack of built in fasteners and lining allows quite a bit of leeway in fitting the kilt to the wearer's waist. I cannot not recall the boy's name so I'll call him "Young Albert" though he never poked me with a stick. Young Albert was 11 and roughly 4 and a half feet tall and growing. Well not growing as you could actually see it happening but trust me he was gonna get taller. Now keep in mind that I'm a 60+ white male. That put's me squarely in the potential "dirty old man" demographic. As a result I explain to youngsters exactly what I'm doing and why. Young Albert chose a primarily blue plaid with white, black and yellow lines creating the pattern. It's a popular plaid because it's colorful but not too busy. The fabric is soft so it fits well to wee tinyΒ bums. I knelt down to be on the same level as the lad. Damn, that kneeling down and getting back up used to be much easier. Young Albert had chocolatey brown hair, pretty blues eyes and smattering of freckles. Young boys often have such angelic faces. Such a boy was our Albert. I explained that I was going to reach around him to put the kilt on, and did so. Now for these wee lads I will fold the top apron under to achieve the proper look. I showed his mum how that would allow for growth. I explained that traditionally boys kilts were long and that the extra length below his knee would accomodate his growing. Modern Americans have this sense that everything ought to fit now, we'll just buy new as needed but kilts aren't inexpensive nor something you can pop into the local mall for. Explaining the practicality of tradition tends to switch on the lightbulb. If properly cared for this kilt could see him through his teens. Throughout this dear little Albert stood quietly looking absolutely adorable with a shy smile on his face. The folks passed on buying the kilt which is fine. Kilting is about the experience and one day I expect a not quite so young Albert to return ... Does the kilt come with bagpipes? Bagpipes are so cool to listen to. 1 2

Popular Post dughlas Posted June 23, 2019 Popular Post Posted June 23, 2019 (edited) So there was one more kilting to tell. This one was all about the experience. A lad of about 13/14 came into the shop with a friend in tow. They were obviously enjoying the festival while out on their own. Not boisterous just happy. The lad was upfront about not being able to buy a kilt. I explained that was fine he was still welcome to try one on. This boy had a killer smile. Both lads were a bit over five foot and lean in the way of young teens. Again the name escapes me so I'll call him Byron as he reminds me of my step-nephew at that age. Byron had dark brown hair and eyes. I'm betting his dimples made old ladies want to pinch his cheeks. We chose that same blue plaid from the earlier kilting. Again I explained I was going to reach around him to wrap the kilt about his waist. After doing so I belted the kilt in place. Now it was time for pictures. He handed his phone to his pal who promptly took fore and aft images. Having completed that I asked if he wanted a picture that was a bit sexy. "YEAH!" Was the immediate reply. So I had him turn his back to his friend. Spread his feet into a bold stance and put his fists on his hips. I heard the phone making that click sound. Now, I said, twist your upper body to look over your shoulder and wink for the camera. He promptly did. Now I've said before that these young ones can have the face of angels. That was true enough here but in that wink was a bit of imp peeking out. To finish the experience for them we went out to the side garden and I stood him in the dappled sunshine in front of a small pine and bed of hostas and did the fore and aft bit again. The final photo though was of him with his right foot up on the stone bench and his left hand braced on his hip. That imp most definitely made himself known. Photos complete,Β two heads were huddled over the phone and I heard a soft voice say "You look really sexy". Were they young boyfriends or just boys who were close friends? Does it matter ... not one whit. They were two lads who were enjoying being together and having fun. Thus end the kilt tales for now. Edited June 23, 2019 by dughlas 1 8
