Not sure where to post this.

Can anyone recommend authors who write in a style similar to Mac Rountree, Doug Spencer or Nick Brady?  There are probably a bunch of them, but I don't know where to start.

Thanks!

What is it that you are looking for? Are there certain features of those authors that you particularly enjoy? (I’ve only read stories from one of those authors.)

Thanks for the comment.

For me, the main focus needs to be on storytelling.  Explicit sex is merely a part of the story, not the Main Thing.  Sure, some of these guys start with sex-heavy chapters, but as the characters develop the story itself takes over.

If you look on the right sidebar of any story meta data page that you like, you can see a box titled "Stories" that has stories that has other recent stories. From there, you can look at the genre(s), read the description, check out the rating, etc... to decide if you want to read it or not. You can also use the browse options to check things out by tags such as, find stories marked as light-hearted, no sex, etc...

Here’s a more specific suggestion. I have several favorite authors, and like you, I prefer not to read a story focused on explicit sex. Three of my favorite authors are Geron KeesMikiesboy, and lomax61. Geron does tend to include science fiction characteristics in many of his stories, but if you don’t usually like sci-fi, sample the first chapters before you skip the story (you might find that you like his storytelling enough to get hooked – I did with his take on Zombies). Tim (aka Mikiesboy) has written an extremely wide variety of stories with all sorts of situations and characters. Brian (aka lomax61) creates unusual situations with interesting characters who sometimes cameo in his later series (Hooking Trout was controversial and the unhappy reactions to the story mean that it will probably never be completed).

Checking your Profile tells me you’re a few years older than I am.

Tim wrote Changes about a married couple.

northie has two sets of characters who are ‘more established’ than many of the protagonists on GA. Soul Music and Never Too Late will both be going on a hiatus until next year, but each has plenty of chapters to keep you busy. Never Too Late features a curmudgeonly, but lovable character who is retired and slowly Coming Out. northie is English and these two series are set in England.

Geron’s Doorways series does feature a grandfather (less so in the first story in the series).

I hope this helps!

I got a Notification today that reminded me of Headstall’s The Watcher series (1/2/3). They are tagged mature adult, which in this context is a euphemism for not-a-kid – not graphic sex and violence.

It used to be that you could click on a member profile and see authors, and stories, they follow. I remember reading new stories that way. Someone commented on a story I liked, I looked to see other stories that person recommended. I looked on my own profile and that doesn't seem to exist anymore. I mainly go by recommendations and occasionally story summaries, often the summaries are not long enough, so sometimes it's pure chance.

If you happen to check the Profile of a person who has Commented on or Reviewed a story (not just a chapter), you can find that by clicking on the See their activity button, then under the Stories grouping view the Story Reviews or Story Comments. My theory is that people are only likely to Comment on a story when they’re invested in the story (often to ask the author when new chapters might be forthcoming). And generally, people are only likely to Review a story they really liked since there’s extra effort involved in the process (but a Review is only possible for stories that have been completed).

And this is where I recommend Reviewing stories. I know I should do it more often, but I’ve Reviewed 25 different stories. I know the authors truly do appreciate the extra steps you take to make the story more likely to be read by others. It’s my way of paying the author for the free stories. (I do try my best to avoid spoilers in my reviews so later readers will have as much fun reading the story as I did.)

At the bottom left hand side of my profile I have a list of the stories I follow. I'm not sure whether all profiles have that, or just those who choose to make it public. But you could check the profiles of those members who like the same stories you do.

Even if I chose to make that information public, I almost always choose to follow authors rather than stories. Partly because then I’ll get a Notification if a sequel series is posted. I also tend to un-subscribe from stories when they conclude.

@Timothy M. when I look on your profile at the bottom left you have FOLLOWED AUTHORS then FOLLOWED STORIES. I don't have that on my own profile or see any way to switch it on.

@Talo Segura I spotted this and realised I couldn't remember how I got mine to show. A quick look around revealed the solution:

Go to your user name and click on 'Account settings'. You should then see this screen (or similar). Click on 'Stories'. Toggle the buttons to suit your requirements.

@northie Exactly what I was looking for, it's kind of hidden away, thank you very much ☺

Except, I can't get followed authors to work?

Not quite there yet.
