[Andrew_Q_Gordon] Second Shot
Andrew Q Gordon replied to Andrew Q Gordon's topic in Promoted Author Discussion Forum
Just figured I would share with everyone, the bf read the first page and declared he didn't like it. Hasn't read a lick since. Said he wants a fantasy or sci story instead. Oh well, -

I think that for the reader part it is still e-Ink but am not sure, I am curious now so I will go look it up. I recall reading about this - the use of color with e-Ink and I believe they are still using it, even with the color because everything but the reader is slow. Again not sure, I will look into it now and get back to you. Agreed that is why I got this - to reduce the eye strain when reading. It - the Nook - looks and feels [eye wise] different the iReader on my partner's iPad. The Nook also doesn't 'turn' the pages like the iReader does - which is another reason I think it is e-Ink not LCD. Thus far in two days of use, it does feel different than the iPad's iReader so I think - but am going to check more - that this is e-Ink. Wishful thinking? Because one of the reasons I bought is for the reason you point out - eye strain. Hopefully I'm not mistaken Thanks Colin - yeah I was reading on my iPhone - it has it's own iReader that works just fine on it's little screen, I just wanted something a bit bigger to with. I pretty much only used the eReader on the Metro to and from work, but then I've only had it two days so the usage may see a bit of expansion with time. Thanks for stopping by and commenting everyone. Andy -
Thanks Cia, I wrote this as an exercise for a class - tell the story in less than 5k. When I first posted it on the old eFiction, some one asked if there was a longer story here and the answer was no - now the answer is maybe, if I find the time to write it. LOL. Sadly I don't remember the motivation for this - there was something that happened that kick started this idea, but now I just don't remember. Oh well - getting old sucks -- Andy

Only had it a day, but it works really well. Had someone from here send me a word copy of their story and Mac has a conversion program built in that converts things to ePub. Did that - took less than a minute, then dragged the story in and it was there. That was one of the big reasons to get it, it makes it so much easier to read things from here than using my iPhone. The web browser is slow and clunky but it is adequate to load a page and let me read while I am away from WiFi. All in all it is great but I did catch a bit of flack from the hubby about spending 300 - with take and a case - to read free stories. He said they were all that free now were they. LOL I think with this, unless and until authors can make more money shilling their work on their own, the publishing agents have then by the short hairs. I agree with you that lending out a book is the same, maybe even easier in paper so this 'reason' for charging more is totally bogus. But again they have the authors in a bind - skip the publisher and try to sell it on line yourself - in which case you lose the marketing prowess of the big firms not to mention losing the ability to sell paper copies. Until there is a cost beneift analysis that shows it is better to sell it yourself and keep the profits, I don't see authors leaving publishing houses - and thus us paying the publishers more. HH, I don't know - I know I can read it from any angle, just like a printed page so that is really nice. And there is not issue with glare like there is with a laptop. So it's pretty good technology for reading a book/novel. Thnaks to you all. Andy -

So went with a Nook - Color - Thank you Renee, your comments were a great starting point. Works pretty well, though I have to say the iPad's eReader is so much cooler - it actually looks like it is flipping pages, the Nook does not. On the plus side the Electronic Ink screen is much easier on the eyes than A computer/laptop screen. Thanks to all who commented. -
Well sadly this is over and as Dave said, there is no sequel in sight. But then that is normal for the book world. It can be a couple three years before sequels come out. Glad to see you are practicing for when you are published my friend. Not that this is about me, but this will be my 500 review - fitting I think no? [okay I knew I was two away so I did the other first ] I think some things ended up resolved, others not so much. All in all very well done HC. Hopefully you will get around to writing the second one and i will be waiting - Thanks for writing and posting this. Andy

There are only so many times you can say Cooper is a snake, though as I've said before, I wonder if Kyle isn't doing some or most of the same himself, but we don't know it. That said, someone needs to smack him - he's not being safe with Kyle and he's having sex with others - blowjobs count for the list of things you can get diseases from. It's interesting how you end every one of the last few chapters with Cooper feeling more attached to Kyle each time - and yet the behavior doesn't change. The rationalizations get more twisted and complicated and the guilt seems greater but the conduct doesn't change. It is also interesting that Cooper thinks that although this is what he wants for his life, he isn't certain it will be with Kyle. At least he understands that he is still young and has a lot to experience. Very well done so far - has a very 'real' feel to it [even if Cooper seems to be singlehandedly living all of everyone elses individual 'most unusual places you've had sex' experiences in a couple months. But Cooper's struggle and 'journey', as you call it, has that real feel to it. Andy

Chapter 1 A Chance Meeting
Andrew Q Gordon commented on Andrew Q Gordon's story chapter in Chapter 1 A Chance Meeting
John, let me say this, I appreciate you telling me what you think, even if you don't like it. I will say that sports has a minor role in the story though there are at least three or four more soccer matches. I'll PM you about the other stuff. And I've never quite parsed out the reps and the visits and stuff like that. All I can is - um wow, never knew that. I mean I knew folks liked the story and all but ... never mind - thanks for reading and I will message you in a bit. --- Andy -
[Andrew_Q_Gordon] Purpose
Andrew Q Gordon replied to Andrew Q Gordon's topic in Promoted Author Discussion Forum
Don't worry Bee, this has a ways to go before it's all posted. Nope not planning to shut this down, just wanted to see if it worked, but this chapter is different from most - there will only be a few 1st person Journal entry chapters. The rest will be third Person from the Main Characters POV. Love story? Moi? Kinda sorta, but yes there will be some of that - though... er nevermind, I've said enough. Well Nephy you don't spill the beans either - must be a lawyer thingy. The next half dozen chapters or so will not be a journal type entry, but they will - I hope - keep some of the dark feel to them. Thanks all for reading and commenting - I was a bit unsure about this despite, Anyta, Jian and Frosty telling me to post it. Yeah yeah I know, insecurity is a gay man's specialty I think. -
[Andrew_Q_Gordon] Purpose
Andrew Q Gordon replied to Andrew Q Gordon's topic in Promoted Author Discussion Forum
More will be revealed as we go along, but there are definite spirits in this world so they call out for vengeance. An eye for an eye is perfectly acceptable. At least to Gar. Thanks for reading Mike. Andy -
So finally ready to start the new story - it isn't quite done yet but I am quite far into - far enough that unless folks hate it, I plan to finish it. It is somewhat dark, and somewhat violent at parts. I am still not sure if folks will enjoy it so feed back is really appreciated, at least to start. The idea came to life when I was chatting with Jian about this idea - I called it a Purpose with power. Gar is something of a tortured soul, who has choked off most of his emotions and feelings after the Purpose found him. He's basically accepted his fate and just gets on with it. This is going to be at least a two part story - maybe more. Right now I will post once a week, have to settle on a day - Probably won't be Saturdays after today. So here is a link - leave a review, chat me up here whatever. Thanks Andy Purpose: Chapter 1

Well finally all caught up. I have to say I am still a bit disappointed in Cooper, Ben again? Well I suppose he's safe in that he isn't going to be talking about any man sex with Cooper to anyone. Clearly Kyle likes Cooper a lot - maybe more than Cooper likes him. IDK. But I still have this hint that Kyle is doing stuff on the side and not letting Cooper know. One thing that keeps coming up and it ties into what you keep saying that this is a journey - is all the ''looking back it was a mistake' regretting now lying then. That doesn't bode well for Kyle and Cooper and right now it feel like they are good for each other and you want them to be together, but the story keeps foreshadowing that they won't. Oh well that's what keeps us reading right?
-
This nice little story is suddenly taking a rather darker tone. Fleet's a total a-hole but he seems to be getting more nasty as the year goes on. That can't be good. James looks like a roid case - and a tad unstable at that. Robinson and Tom look like they are gunning for the boys, and while they have Frank for help and Kylie, that doesn't bode well if they find themselves even more out numbered. All in all the happy parts are being tamped down by the hints of danger you are weaving through this.

Chapter 12: Touring the Catacombs
Andrew Q Gordon commented on Dark's story chapter in Chapter 12: Touring the Catacombs
So you let the boys kiss, then it scares the bejebbers out of Kynan. Poor Alan, he'll be devastated I think. I've read this twice and I'm not quite sure what happened. But that is what next chapter is for. Clearly Bryce found food, but beyond that it seems to suggest they found Kynan but being in Dreamscape doesn't sound like they found him. More questions without answers. Soo now I gotta wait again. -
Things seem to be working out nicely for everyone - too nicely perhaps? Just feels like something bad is lurking on the horizon. Is that the same James who cornered Max and told him about the group? If so who knew he was such a twisted kid.

I have this odd feeling that Derek and Nate aren't going to be apart. Not that you've given us any hint of that but it is terribly sad to think in a few days, Nate leaves forever. Worse, as of now, there are no other gay kids on board - though there might be and he doesn't know it. But if it is true, Nate faces a very very lonely existence, not just on the ship but the colony as well unless and until others arrive. Of course that is the plan to send more people, but I can't imagine the ships are cheap to build so there probably aren't a whole fleet of them launching each day so the numbers will be a trickle. Perhaps mom will have a change of heart and let him stay? And I don't mean just for him to be with Derek, first love's come and go, but two years of being the only one has to be cruel punishment.

Chapter 6: Cementing the Bond
Andrew Q Gordon commented on Cia's story chapter in Chapter 6: Cementing the Bond
Woo Hoo, I get to be the first to comment on the so called 'HOT' chapter - Okay, that was pretty good - well better than pretty good. Me personally, I prefer it when the author sketches the scene but let's me fill in all the tiny details. Couple comments - I was meh on the beginning with the Jaguar. He seemed too out of character in his flippant comments - "Oh yes, this will be a very good mating for our people." This didn't feel right. He would not be congratulating himself in front of his people like that. He might tell them he was pleased and their mating would serve his people well, but not like that. IMHO at least. Okay, maybe a tad picky but - you glossed over the changed reaction from the clan - you just told us - things changed they were better. It would have been better to have shown us, to give us a peek of the journey back to the forest's edge. Honestly, this was BIG Bashta was leaving the only home he knew, his comfort zone for Cavel and it get's glossed over in a couple paragraphs along with the new attitude of the clan. I would have given us more of that and saved the phobia for the start of the next chapter - So to sum up, HOT, GOOD, NOT ENOUGH. Usually I say there was too much so that's a good thing. Oh yeah and I hate you for only publishing once a week - hell I got crap for twice I week, I need to transfer some of that to you. Andy -
Chapter 8: Michael Pt. 2
Andrew Q Gordon commented on Jwolf's story chapter in Chapter 8: Michael Pt. 2
I probably should have said this last chapter but really, what would make Kyle think this was a good idea - oh wait, I know - he wants to be a Sigma and is willing to pimp his bf out to get there. Hmm maybe these two are good together. So here again, he gives Cooper a free pass to f**k Rusty, but Rusty doesn't show it's Michael, but that's still okay, he's a sigma and Kyle wants to be one just like his brother so of course, he wants Cooper to be helping the 'cause.' Pimped out, and bought by a hunky guy, does Kyle really have any right to be mad? No, and I'm willing to be he's fine with it on some level because making the customer happy makes sigma look better and that in turn makes him look better as well. Hmm what a tangled web you weave. Hehe, - can you tell I am enjoying this ? -
Chapter 8: Michael Pt. 1
Andrew Q Gordon commented on Jwolf's story chapter in Chapter 8: Michael Pt. 1
So from cheating, he went to lying so as to not hear from Spencer what he knew he would get - doing more than jacking off was wrong. Clearly he didn't need Spencer or anyone else telling him it was wrong. Now he compounds the problem but lying to Kyle, and it is so easy - great guy. Finally to really make it bad, he Bare Backs Kyle knowing it wasn't right but doing it anyway. Kyle clearly was signalling his trust in Cooper, a trust that wasn't/isn't justified. So, when do we learn just how much of a horn dog Kyle's been during this same time. -
Yup, Cooper's a dog. I kinda feel sorry for Kyle. Yes he was the one who flip flopped creating the confusion, but this is different. Kyle really didn't have much right to be mad that Cooper did the bartender, though asking Cooper to come up and being told I'm sorry would make you mad. He was the one who was so distant the night before. But then the agreed they were a thing and this was bad - that he could justify it was worse, because once you head down that path, well it's easy to keep kicking the can a bit further each time, saying it's nothing. Interested too see if he tells Kyle or not - lying, well that would just make it worse. On a different note, you really did a great job of capturing the tension with this - a pseudo straight guy trying to get his dick wet, trying to talk his 'straight' drunk buddy into helping. It never got to the OMG that's such a load a crap stage, so that was really well done, as was Cooper's internal rationalizing. Good chapter, even if it makes me a tad annoyed at Cooper LOL. Andy
-
So yeah, the boys are confused, Now Kyle is back to - we're just dating, screw whomever. Here again, Cooper does not shower himself in glory. Hooking up with someone else is fine, but lying to do it is not so cool. On the other hand, Kyle is the one who threw cold water on their situation. First in the room, then in the Bar. So it's only after Cooper made his move that Kyle wants some action. Spencer's advise was off. As long as Kyle wasn't ready to commit, there was no reason for Cooper to act like he had. Hooking up with Sexy Bartender wasn't meant to be anything more than a hot hook up. He wasn't nor should he be trying to convince Kyle of anything. Being good wouldn't change his attitude. Just my opinion.
-
That was rather interesting, hall pass, no hall pass, okay give it back again. Honestly, Cooper was more than a bit of an ass with Asher. He was pissed at Kyle and used Asher - yup that is what you intended so good job. Then there is the issue of how confused Cooper is. First he is straight, then experimenting, then doing guys exclusively, to feelings for a guy - Kyle - but it still being 'just a phase' cause he wasn't settling down with anyone. Why in the world would Kyle want to be with someone like that ... oh wait, he's in the closet so pretending to be all the things Cooper for some misguided reason thinks he still is - a straight guy. Wow - this is going to end so well for both. Good chapter. Andy

New student, old friend
Andrew Q Gordon commented on NightOwl88's story chapter in New student, old friend
Damn N.O., you throw every AND the kitchen sink into a chapter don't you? That was - and interesting mix of emotions and situations. Franks reversal, or better say coming to his senses was a nice addition. Hopefully the three will not end up going to the mat for each other too often, though it does seem a bit unlikely given the attitude. Hope to finish this before you post the next chapter. Andy
