Good Luck Vic, I hope everything goes well with the surgery, and I'm also impressed with your self-control. Also maybe your father's words were partly due to the effects of the drugs? People do say random stuff they wouldn't normally say sometimes...maybe it was just the first (unfortunate) thing that popped into his mind. I totally agree, everyone wants the other person to admit that their "right", but ultimately I think all that matters is that the two people know where the other is coming from and respect their decisions. If you have to force everyone else to believe as you do (especially when they're mostly staying out of the topic at hand), you're almost guilty of the same thing they're doing. ***claps*** Good Luck, Dom. I can definitely see where you're coming from, and maybe after you do calm down you should talk to your mother about it. Try to at least approach it in an "agree to disagree" fashion though. Now that makes sense to me! Of all the theories purposed for the significance of TOU in the story I'd go with that one! Jude, and the other charcters referred to are indeed from Dom Luka's stories. I strongly suggest you check them out I think perhaps the reason I can't identify Connor with Jude (or Owen for that matter) is because Jude is definitely my favourite Dom character. I was just extremely impressed by the mental image I had of his physical beauty not to mention all those other amazing emotional/personality traits. He's just so... Anyway I'm not trying to knock the character of Connor by any means. Connor is an extremely complex, well-written character filled with extremely admirable as well as undesirable traits. He's very real. Jude, while also extremely well-written and complex, is more of a "white knight in shining armor." type. He may have a few bad traits if you read the story carefully and dig deeply enough, but basically none of those registered for me when I read the story and I view him as essentially one-dimensionally good and attractive. That's the main reason I can't connect the two in my own mind. Also, however, (even stepping away from my own biases) Jude and Connor are miles away from each other in terms of emotional maturity. I of course am not blaming Connor in anyway given what he's been through, I'm just saying that throughout the stories Jude was extremely reasonable and emotionally healthy whereas Connor is constantly struggling with his feelings. If I had to pair anyone up with Jude I'd pick Cody. Apart from them both being gorgeous blonds , Cody too strikes me as unilaterally good. With both characters you just know they're going to do what's best. With Connor it could go either way. With Quinn you should assume if it's possible to screw it up he will. I strongly prefer Connor's character to Quinn. Again I sympathized with Quinn and even liked him, but he irritated the heck out of me! As I often said in Dom's forum when the story was being written: poor Quinn, it must be awful being good-looking, popular, surrounded by loving friends and family, and forced to endure being courted by the hottest guy in town. As for Owen, well I just adored Owen! He's by far my favourite Dom proteg. I can't even properly express what I thought of Owen except to say that I could identify with him more than any of the before mentioned characters. Not because of any similarities in our pasts, but simply because of personalty and ways of thinking about and handling things etc. Just my thoughts on the characters recently mentioned, Kevin

I just read First Time and all I can say is, "WOW"! It was so subtle and gentle, and yet it segued into such an intense (and HOT!) passion. Much like an infection subtly and gently begins to consume one's body until eventually you're burning with pain and misery. Yet this of course was the complete antithesis. Where the infection eventually brings suffering First Time gradually consumes the reader delight and pleasure until once again you're burning up! Everything was so beautifully and exquisitely described. Lucas' feelings (both physical and emotional) so completely and perfectly told that the reader not only understands the story but is completely consumed by it. Not only that but it was just really hot and erotic Fantastic Job, Luc! Everyone should go and read this if you haven't already. NOW!! Have a great day everyone and take care, Kevin

Welcome to the forum, Aurric! We're really glad to have you here . Also I hope you're fully recovered and feeling well now That's very interesting. It's quite amusing to try to imagine people you really know in these roles. Thanks for giving me something to think about. Also I think it's pretty common to see yourself in the role of one of the main characters. I don't see much of myself in Connor, but I do empathize with. I think perhaps on one level Ryan can be seen as an extreme dichotomous embodiment of the strength and weakness which lies within us all. Most people are of course both good and bad at all times; Ryan seems almost to have gone from wholly good to wholly bad. you say you want Ryan "back to normal" and yet surly the realest and normalest Ryan is one who is fully integrated. Both exhibiting strength but not desperately trying to burry all weakness. Yes, I've never really bought that Ryan is having issues with his sexuality. Perhaps he is, but I just don't think so. I can't really see Connor as Jude though. I guess I can see some similarities if I look for them, but I see Jude and Connor as fundamentally different types of people. Exactly what I wondered. I think it's because Connor and Toby's behaviour is easier to understand. It isn't that mysterious (we're in Connor's head after all and Toby's actions were pretty transparent as well). Ryan on the other hand is keeping everyone guessing. It might not be so much that we're more reluctant to accept that Ryan is flawed so much as we're reluctant to accept his flaws without a readily understandable reason. -Kevin

well I definitely think it's true that not everything would have to come to a full resolution. I guess that would consist of Ryan explaining his behaviour, Connor coming clean about seeking solace in the arms of Ben that night, and basically them saying and doing things that would lead to a natural restoration of trust. I suppose relationships are a work in progress. Certainly you don't need to have all your issues worked out to be in one, but idealy I think you ought to be in a place where you can feel good about and accept yourself and offer that same kind of support to the other person. Are Ryan and Connor in that place? Certainly Ryan seemed to be. Now? I'm not so sure. As for Connor, well he certainly didn't seem to be, and yet now? Maybe. Also as you pointed out he seemed to have gotten their at least in part because of his relationship with Ryan. So for himt he relationship was a means of working on his issues. So I guess my "final answer" is that each relationship naturally has a different dynamic, different purpose, and different direction depending on the people involved. Could Ryan and Connor be in a "healthy" relationship (for they themselves)? I think so, but I do think that while there's much they could work on within the relationship, some of the things that stand in their way would have to be resolved first. Is there time for that resolution? Personally I don't think so. Do I hope I wrong? Yes Anyway just my thoughts, have a great day everyone! Kevin

I thought that for the most part that wasn't at all offensive. Also I thought two people raised some good questions. Perhaps it is that gay guys are more in tune to fashion and personal pampering (either because the sterotype is true up to a point or because they're unconsciously living up to it) and thus do make themselves look hotter....sort of like the classic make over/ugly duckling scenario. Everyone can look better if they try hard enough, perhaps gay guys try harder? The other statement I thought was interesting was the one about wanting what you can't have. I think that's very true of human nature...heck some lesbians turn me on too! Anyway I'm just being silly and mean no offense to anyone, take care and have a great day all, Kevin
