And so much for Emperor Piqsirpoq's desire for erasing the various 'social' barriers between the factions... "It seems that mutt didn't train you well enough," came the emperor's voice, heavy pressure crashing in from all sides, compressing my consciousness, making it hard to breathe. I felt like I'd been punched in the gut, forced down onto my knees. "Teaching mediocrity begets mediocrity, after all." I mustered all my strength, pushing back with my consciousness, unable to stand but determined not to fall further. The blood closest to me began to boil, sizzling and bubbling. "That useless mutt couldn't even fulfill the empire's most basic request." The emperor's furious eyes glowed red as he spat out his words. "The empire asked for just one heir to inherit his power, just one!" He emphasized each word with wild gestures, shards of stone floating into the air, spinning as our domains clashed. With a flick of his paw, a sharp whistle cut through the air. Fortunately, I was ready. Several metal fragments slammed into my defense circle, flattening under the force. "And instead, he produced a crippled little bastard?" The emperor's fur bristled, his form swelling to nearly double its size. "I've been lenient, ignoring his 'deformities,' yet he couldn't even meet that one basic demand?" His tone was as bitter as if he'd swallowed something foul.

Interesting to say the least, much to unpack and think about in this chapter....the following is/was very intriguing... "To manage the scope of memory compression if needed..." Richter looked down at the floor, resting his elbows on his knees, his tail and ears drooping without movement. "I can only tell you that it's an intelligence far beyond our understanding. We're currently confined within the Sol, and the Phantom are the gatekeepers." His tone became somewhat detached. "The only condition for lifting the blockade is passing the trial." He looked up at the airlock's observation window. "But the rules aren't ours to set, and we don't even know what the trial entails."

Such a sublime chapter, and now to await some 'interesting' developments!!!

I had a feeling and commented several chapters ago I thought the treasure might/may have been CSA treasure. I am looking forward to seeing what types of coins are found...

Lubed/baby powdered or dry????

Myself, I quit 35 years ago and don't miss it anymore, as to imbibing the God's nectar...it's been nearly 15 years as a steady, overindulgent drinker...recent X-rays of my lungs for another issue, showed no abnormalities or signs of cancer...phew!!!! Quite frankly I can't stand the smell and know that it is one of the best things you could have done for yourself!!! Next time in San Fran, I will have to torture my backside with some of your spicy food!!

Toby continuously amazes me and as noted above, Elise is clearly intrigued/smitten with young Toby. It will be interesting to see if it goes anywhere... I was delighted to see Toby's gumption in seeing out ''Mr. Russ's" help and I have to love his sartorial choices. Having my own fashion disability, my trove of tropical/Hawaiian shirts now spill out into storage bins! Some are truly horrible, purchases resulting an excess of libations, a few others dating back to the 1940's...mind you...much older than I!!!
