  1. So why are Swedish men warned? And are these people totally deranged? Or militant feminists ...?
  2. Why can't I "like" something twice?
  3. I think that's part of the attraction of extreme sports - the nearer to death you are the more alive you feel.
  4. Give up now, fluffball - you're never gonna have it! :funny:

    Dr Who

Tom "answers-are-easy-it's-questions-that-are-difficult" Baker I've watched quite a few of these and he was excellent as the character. Sure the sets and effects were pretty crap but the stories were good and fun - and, of course, he introduced the sonic screwdriver Does that mean she gets a hot young male assistant??

I get a fright each time I open this thread and see that pic We can look forward to Macolm The Doctor being his usual polite and friendly self to the Cybermen http://i39.tinypic.com/vdle2g.jpg *do not click on this link if you are of a nervous disposition and easily upset*

  13. Erm, OK. You're a writer so I was suggesting you can show the way à la Jim Phelps challenges in the opening sequences to the classic US 60s TV series Mission Impossible. Meant to be a joke. Obviously fell flat as a pancake
  14. Yes. Sooner than we think probably. Consider: pet / friend / companion / carer / diagnostician / notifier of emergency services - all combined - feeds itself *self-recharging*, never loses its temper, never cruel, always there to help. These will become so cheap and provide a much better all round service. All we will have to do is change our attitudes. Of course, when they become self-aware will we then have to give them rights to protect them?
  15. Who is having "a go at skinny people"? .
  16. But health is the whole point. And this is where the fashion industry has a lot to answer for. Fashion is hugely influential, especially with impressionable teens, and its "size zero" infatuation has been malign. "Eliana Ramos, 18, who worked for a prestigious Argentine modelling agency, was found dead in her bedroom. Six months ago her sister Luisel suffered a fatal heart attack during a catwalk show, having reportedly eaten nothing but lettuce leaves for three months. Eliana is also said to have had a heart attack, and local media in Uruguay, south America, linked her death to anorexia. A source involved in the investigation into the teenager's death said: "The primary diagnosis is death due to symptoms of malnutrition."" http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1542707/Sister-of-tragic-size-zero-model-found-dead.html
  17. Good point well made. Your mission, Jim - er, crazyfish - should you choose to accept it, is to demonstrate this in you next opus while maintaining a coherent and comprehensible narrative ... *cue music*
  18. Not necessarily. Post #3 referred to a 2012 study by the German Research Center for Geosciences into a flip 41,000 years ago that happened in a very short timescale. The study is not published on the internet but there is a more detailed report here http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/10/121016084936.htm
  19. In fact we do know from the geological record that during field reversal - where North becomes South, not to be confused with the poles just moving around - the geomagnetic field strength is significantly reduced, we know that "the Earth's magnetic field acts to deflect cosmic rays from its surface" and the science shows that cosmic rays are damaging to modern electronics and human health "Aircraft operations on polar routes are also affected by energetic particles ... especially the polar atmosphere, which is less protected by the Earth’s magnetic field." "Cosmic radiation ... constitutes two types of hazard to living beings: - High radiation doses are an immediate threat for health or even life. This is a danger for human spaceflight outside the Earth’s magnetosphere. Solar energetic particle events are therefore recognised as a major threat for flights to the Moon or Mars. The major solar event of 4 August 1972 occurred during the period of the Apollo flights to the Moon. It would likely have had deadly consequences if a flight had been underway at that time. Therefore the astronaut safety is a major issue for future manned spaceflight. - Low radiation doses may not have any immediately noticeable consequence, but [could] be a risk on the long run." http://www.nmdb.eu/?q=node/137 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmic_ray But you're right, it was a quiet news day at CBS and the suggestion that the Earth's field could be reversed because of the 11 year solar cycle is tosh And a full reversal will not happen in our own lifetimes.
  20. Well I do know this is a healthy full figure that is beautiful and sexy ... and this is malnourishment So come on girls, ignore the fascist fashionistas' stick insect fetish and bring back the curves But, hey, what do I know - I'm just a gay guy
  21. I had my house checked for this before I bought it ... Not necessarily ...
  22. Geomagnetic reversals have happened many times and will continue to happen. We just don't want to be around when they do. A big drop in the Earth's magnetic field would be bad news for us, increasing exposure to harmful cosmic rays, and it can happen over short timescales "a study published in 2012 by a group from the German Research Center for Geosciences suggests that a brief complete reversal occurred only 41,000 years ago during the last glacial period. The reversal lasted only about 440 years with the actual change of polarity lasting around 250 years. During this change the strength of the magnetic field dropped to 5% of its present strength." See "Effects on biosphere and human society" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth%27s_magnetic_field
  23. Yeah, but with bras you're buying structural engineering
