    Yeah, Nathan is smart enough to cause Don headaches without seeking direct confrontation. He's protected by his longtime connections with the rest of the family, especially Daniel and now Robbie but since coming out, Don has regarded him as a genuine threat to his family and their way of life. Nathan still needs to be wary of the beast.

    A good point and a very good article. I can only speak for myself and people who I know. I am fortunate to live in a fairly liberal-minded society but I am aware there are still serious issues to be addressed and I certainly wouldn't encourage everyone to out themselves, especially if they are young or vulnerable. Like many, I didn't choose to come out but I was lucky to have people around me who supported and encouraged me. My experience was fairly tame but still scary enough for a 15-year-old. It should always be a personal choice and each case is different. I would never advise anyone to come out unless I knew them well enough to be sure that they weren't putting themselves at risk by doing so.

    I hope that those of us outside the US are invited to join in. What a wonderful statement JP. My closet is empty too. Yeah, I think that you were young enough. I was a teenager too and although it wasn't my choice at the time to come out, I've never regretted it and would never have wanted it to be any different. I'm happy and comfortable with who I am.

    A scary story that could have been real. I would like to have seen some punishment handed out to the surviving perpetrators, even if they were in their 80's but I guess that's what makes it real. At least Ralph and Darrell's story was told, I wonder how many real-life hate crimes like this have gone unreported and unpunished.

    I only recently noticed this story but after reading the first couple of paragraphs I had to finish it. I feel for poor Clay of course and it was difficult because the end was unresolved although true to life.

    I agree it's heartening to see the justice system working for the people on the street who are so often overlooked, even if it meant little in the end to this poor young man.

    Thank you, Tim. I read the article in the Manchester Evening News first and then your poem. It's impossible not to be affected by Daniel's plight and your words provide a chilling epitaph. I have seen many like him in London and in Toronto too, sleeping on top of the subway grills to keep warm. They are overlooked by hundreds of empty apartments and condominiums, bought as investment properties to generate enormous wealth for people who are already enormously wealthy. I don't usually read poetry, but this was very moving.

    This is one of my favourite stories by Comicality and one of the stories that directed me to GA. The excessively long gaps between chapters are annoying but the writing is top drawer as always. There is no doubting your genius Comicality, but this story is screaming out for an ending.

    This is a great story with some interesting characters and Comicality does a fantastic job as always with a gripping storyline, but an average of two chapters a year makes it frustratingly difficult to follow. I would love to read more of Derek and Tanner.

    I'm lucky; my memories of school are all good but I have always enjoyed learning and even today it was fun looking up Friar William when reading your poem.

    Wow, Parker, this is amazing! I studied the Doppler Effect at school but I had to look up Occam's Razor for it to make sense. Informative poetry.

    Great chapter. I'm glad that Brandon and Marie will remain friends but he shouldn't feel bad about what happened in the cinema. At least he knows for certain now what path to follow and maybe in the future, they can laugh about that night.

    Thanks, @Rndmrunner Robbie definitely needs to talk to Nathan because this won't go away. Whether he messes up or not is another matter. There will be a lot riding on it but I promise not to leave you hanging for too long!

    Thanks, @redwood Yeah the story should have ended a while ago, but I've been happy to extend it due to popular demand which can't be bad. It means of course, that I'm no working without a net, or in other words, I'm making it up as I go along, although the ending will remain the same.
