Well, dang! If I’ve learned something from all of the above it’s this: You do you because it works for you, and I’ll do me because no one else is doing me (or something like that). Otherwise, I can greatly sympathize with any and every author who struggles to get their words out on the page. I would love to disagree with @Jason Rimbaud on the subject of discipline but I fear I’d be on the losing end of a stick. But all the same I agree with @Mikiesboy in that having too much time on your hands is a grave risk, considering one’s time might feel unlimited — I can sit down and write pretty much any time I want, until I wonder where the day went. And, there’s this little gem from @Inkognito : “It’s just storytelling and stress, bro.” We need a drumroll after that. @BendtedWreath needs to know what the ending looks like in order to write toward it. For whatever reason I usually come up with a title and an ending lickety-split, along with some of the beginning and/or parts in-between, then I’m left with all these blank-spaces that must be filled in. And then I actively muse and muse some more (as opposed to being affected by a muse) thinking that I have lots of time… . In the end I’ve paid attention to all of the given advice (even if I didn’t mention you specifically). Yes, I could have spent all of that time writing instead of reading and writing this, but I’m sure some things may require time to percolate. I’ll take the wait-and-see approach, maybe some of it will stick. Thanks.

@Zombie I see your reactive Wow, and I raised you a Wow. What are you going to do now, huh?
-
@Zombie I believe that the talking babydoll near the end of The Planet of the Apes was first proof that not everything disappears.

July CSR Discussion Day: Carter's Army by Topher Lydon
Ron commented on Cia's blog entry in Gay Authors News
I wouldn’t say that Hong Kong is my favorite. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting there — I’m fairly sure it has been five times — with the most recent being not long before the handover to China and, every visit has been a terrific experience. The hottest, spiciest chicken I’ve ever eaten in my life was at a small mom and pop restaurant up one of those high hilly streets. Both the chicken and getting back down the steep street (after a few beers and a bottle of wine, for three) were adventurous. -
Has anyone watched Fellow Travelers? If so, what did you think about it? I’m thinking about buying the first season since it doesn’t seem possible to watch it on any of the streaming services I have access to for free.

Sometimes I just want to watch something stupid, comedic, or fun because there’s enough drama nowadays, but it also needs to be smartly crafted as well — or it gets boring fast.
-
I feel like I’m getting ‘picky to a fault’ at times. Unfortunately, this leads to a lot of scrolling for something to watch. In any event I was giving “The Summer I Turned Pretty’ the side-eye even before watching it, and now it feels like I’ve been vindicated.

I am seriously giving thought to this anthology. But I can’t really say much without giving away my idea, but I do have three nearly complete storylines bouncing around in my head. Some might say that’s grrreeeatt 😉, pick one, but there’s still the writing, self editing and finding someone to beta-read and then finally finding and working with an editor — that’s a lot of … well, a lot.

Wow, those are some cool features!

If you watched and liked the movie Mascarpone (2021) then you might be interested to learn there is a sequel out called Mascarpone: The Rainbow Cake (2025).

Not bad for a first song on a Sunday evening.

I Don't Like the Anthology Theme. What do I do?
Ron commented on Valkyrie's blog entry in Gay Authors News
Dang-it and Dang-it some more! I'm trying to listen to Peter Gabriel's US (remastered) and something Mr. Gabriel sang had me drifting (in my mind, no less) pushing me toward writing a goldarn (@Headstall would be proud) something or other for the 'Creature Feature' anthology. I'm doomed! -
I'm just going to drop this here... Thanks to @Talo Segura for the secret (to me) know-how to post music videos. Yee-haw! <--- Wild West speak for: Yes! Anyway, some of the lyrics seem to me appropriate ...

Kind of like that not-cat (Flerkun) in Marvel’s Captain Marvel movie. Some things are just not what they appear to be! -

I happen to like you, so I won’t twist your arm about it. Umm, as long as you don’t twist mine. 😉 -

Oh, Val! Val, Val, Val … it’s not the theme, it’s the writing part! 🙄- 24 comments

Oh, Canada! I feel safe in saying so since I lived in Toronto for three years … back in the olden days, before the turn of the century.

@Paladin Oh, those etymologists would have us empare the word impair and replace it, they being all conjunctive and such. Well, the damage is done!
-
I've been doing some "impaired" writing lately. (Sigh ...) Sadly, that probably means some heavy editing is in my future! * *This just in ... Ron meant to write impaired-writing and not ""impaired"" writing". One of those things is not like the other.

As some great sage once said somewhere in time: Drama - Llama - Ding-Dong!

I listened to Benson Boone's (BB, not to be confused with {political snipe -removed}) new release. Meh! As I usually do (on some nights, although some nights more often than other nights ), I was listening to BBs newest (not that BB consists of my whole listening repertoire), while reading Stereophile magazine on a Friday evening on my computer. After reading a review of BBs newest release in WAPO, I wanted to "listen" to what the reviewer was on about. Unfortunately, I agree with the reviewer, and I will say, I can't add anything (please read the review if you can, sorry I can't post a link that works). After my forgettable listening session with BB, I went on to Wilco's Schmilco on Tidal @44.1khz/24-bit (slightly above CD quality) version of this music and I was blown away!

June Signature Excerpt: Bearpaw: An Old West Tale by Headstall
Ron commented on Cia's blog entry in Gay Authors News
And, and, Such high praise! Oops, wait a minute ... It turns out that Gary @Headstall has contributed to his own recommendations. Tsk - tsk. * * This just in: The editorial team makes an allowance in this instance. It seems that the defendant, er, I mean 'Pardner' is merely stating acceptance for the stroking of this author's ego (sucking up?). This is allowed in every instance, no foul! Please stroke the ego of your favorite author soon. See, Bud? I fixed it for ya (no it's not - you; yak; or yam (in this instance) Microsoft Editor )! -
June Signature Author Feature: Bearpaw: An Old West Tale by Headstall
Ron commented on Cia's blog entry in Gay Authors News
See, I'm woefully behind in my reading; I'm sure this is meant to mean something ... and, yet, I have no idea what it is that is meant. Is it adjacent to what Karen Pomeroy (Donnie Darko: Teacher; (the always wonderful) Drew Barrymore) said, "... of all the combinations of words in the English language, 'cellar door' is the most beautiful."? That is a conflict of doors (front? - cellar?) (how is that possible ) to ponder (<-- is that 'Western' enough @Headstall, err Gary?) (I feel confident that 'cellar door' will prevail over 'front door' as the most beautiful combination , but will it be relevant to @drsawzall's comment?)! * *Why, yes! I do think that my punctuation and most necessary grammar infarctions will hold up under examination. -

As Cherita Chen (Donnie Darko; Jolene Purdy) might say, "Chut up!" What?!! With apologies ... I have been very lax in my reading these past years and I've much neglected you. Although, I can agree that you, Gary @Headstall, have a way with the Western genre that persuades one to ... as @northie put it: "... give it a go." - as it were. "Home, home on the range ... Cheers on the feature, Bud!
