  1. I believe Luke didn't want to call the police because he truly believes Ben has mental issues. though what action he wants to take is not clear. He doesn't want any violence but is also not thinking clearly. Bear is in emotional turmoil too - after all, his father has just died and the family are all grieving and taking out their anger on him. I am eager to see how this resolves too!

    Chapter 62

Addy is so fortunate to see to her great-grandchildren! She remains the constant rock for her family.
  3. Luke and his dad need to have a very serious and rational conversation. Dad needs to see (not saying agree) with Luke's point of view. I do agree that this is too soon in Dad's relationship to allow this force of nature to have reign in his and Luke's house. She has no respect for him, not that he's had opportunity to truly get to know her either. I have a feeling that all things are not ok with Leander's family now that his brother is the boss, regardless of his initial reaction to Luke.
  4. Very fine chapter! Luke gets introduced to Bear's mother and she doesn't explode; he goes to work and fulfills his commitment - great work ethic; and then, he comes home to the female version of Eddie Haskell (hope you get that reference - if not, I will explain). Can't wait for this to resolve.
  5. Excellent chapter. The meeting with his mother will be most interesting. Is this the right time to do it? Leander wants to pull the bandage off while everything is still raw, but while he has the courage - and apparently the backing of two of his brothers now - it's probably best.

    Chapter 18

What a lovely visit! I do so love this story and all of the characters! Wish I had the means to visit South Africa and visit all the sites mentioned and eat the food!
  7. So...Taz's dad has admitted he's gay...we'll see how that plays out as the divorce proceeds. Now what's with Bear?

    Chapter 30: Drop

You definitely captured the emotions of all. I love River: he is the balance needed to get things done and not fall into a maudlin state.
  9. I hope Bear doesn’t end up in the hospital because of his dad. The intensity builds!
  10. I hope Taz's parents aren't going to say they are separating/divorcing. I'd much rather it be Weinerdog's suspicion or maybe even a really positive announcement. In any case, Taz always does have another home with Luke if need be. And now to see what Bear decides to do with his future....

    Chapter 61

As we get older, as Leona said, the parts do start wearing out for sure. We try to slow that process down as best we can, but we all must face mortality. One thing I have noticed is that all of Addy's children, however close they are, are also very independent. They will keep up their strong family values.
  12. Luke is getting to be more positive the more he is around Bear. Needed this chapter to get to know Bear a bit more, but there's a lot more to discover.
  13. Hmmm...coincidental that Leander has a job offer so close to town and would be in a permanent position?

    Chapter 29: Down

Hospice care as I know it does not involve machines. It is palliative care only - usually morphine to keep the pain managed while the patient usually sleeps until the body shuts down on its own. There is total withdrawal of all medicines save for the pain management - at least that is my experience with it. You've done a superb job of illustrating Alec's inner talks with himself. I'm wondering if he is now trying to convince himself to feel guilty for having no feelings or for the anger he holds for her.
  15. A couple of comments: 1) Many here in the States use "xo" when writing - meaning kisses and hugs. Yes, we have Aldi stores here. Good stuff. I really like the relationship between Luke and his dad and Luke and Taz.
  16. Luke's reaction are perfectly normal in this situation. Elaine and Dad both should have sat down with Luke the first time she was invited over - it might have been over a meal - and introduced her and Luke in a more constructive way. However, since that didn't happen, maybe a do-over is in order. It's not going to hurt Luke to reflect on his response to her...but the same goes for Elaine and Dad!
  17. This is such a well-crafted story of intrigue, murder, mystery, love and spiritualism. Having waited until it was completed so I could read the whole thing at my own pace, I must say I found it difficult to put down even when my eyes said "time" for the day! The descriptions are such that one feels as though they are present and watching the action without being seen themselves.

  18. Luke is challenging his self-talk more and more, which is wonderful to see. Leander has a lot of things to think about and decisions to make. Loyalty to family is admirable, but expected. Will he choose to make a decision for himself? Let's see!
  19. If the stalker is spying on Luke, might he not follow him to the park? Again, I am impressed how Taz is able to center Luke. He's such a good friend!

    Chapter 60

Addy certainly has sustained a lot of heartache and yet she is still the stalwart matriarch. Through it all, she exudes a positive calm and joy.
  21. Taz is one loyal friend! And yet I totally agree with the Dr. Luke will get no better without more help. There are several therapeutic techniques he could be taught as well as medication to help even out his psychosis. However, I'm still fascinated with the story.
  22. After spending 47 years in education, I can assure you I have met every one of those guys multiple times! Such fun observing that behavior! Now, will Luke melt for sure? Thank goodness for Taz!

    The High Priestess

I also enjoy the psychic observations.
  24. Luke is going to naturally compare any woman his dad would like to his mum. In that Elaine is apparently the total opposite of what his mother was (at least by his description of her) annoys him. His anxiety and youth do play a part in his perception too. His dad is really laid back and not easily fazed by Luke's outbursts. This is exactly what Luke needs. It might well take Luke a bit to see his dad as more than "dad".
  25. I agree with @drsawzall! However, I also understand the irrational logic he is using. Having been a counselor for 36 years, I have dealt with this behavior before. It's hard to convince someone who follows this type of logic. Still, he is smart enough to block a number, but that might lead the stalker to get more aggressive too. Great writing, Mr. Matthews!
