  1. Need rain, and need it bad. I'm in a serious drought too, so I know just how you feel. The person below me also lives in an area suffering from drought.
  2. I love to chime in on these sort of discussions too, but I agree with Marty: it is getting political, so better off on a blog. :ranger:
  3. Nope... The person below me wishes it would rain.
  4. In that case I'm afraid you don't match... I mean lets face it, you actually have more posts then Kevin so it doesn't add up. Now I on the other hand am turning into one.... what I'm not certain yet so perhaps someone will help me out with that. Huh?? What? But Bardeara, there could be many perfectly innocent explanations! And really, if (I'm not admitting that I do, mind you) I did have a higher post total than Kevin, it wouldn't actually count because he has been at GA a lot longer than I have. Also, Kevin is our resident postaholic (hi, Kevin! ). Nope, I'm lurker, I tell ya...
  5. I'm sorry, C James, I really am. We tried to legislate to have the sun rise in the west, as you suggested, but there was an outcry that the American tourists wouldn't be able to cope, and tourism is still an important part of the economy. But Graeme, the thing that gives Americans the most trouble is the fact that you have winter in July! We find that incredibly weird, as well as very inconvenient! And then there is the whole "Christmas in summer" thing, well, that is just too strange. I've been told that my blog makes more sense when the reader is drunk. Perhaps I'b best add that to the title? "Best viewed when drunk"? Oh, and a minor note of irritation: how come Graeme gets to make more sense while he's drunk than I do when I'm sober? It's not fair, I tell ya! Thank you Birds!!
  6. I did indeed. I had to spend several hours outside working on a vehicle (replacing a bent driveshaft) and it was cool but sunny, and I'm at high altitude so UV's are a problem. I should have worn sunscreen. The person below me wants to know when Grame's next chapter of "New Brother" is coming out?
  7. A CD you know he likes? Or make him one that is a compilation of songs you know he likes? Something for one of his hobbies? BTW, congrats on the BF!
  8. But Graeme, I don't deny being a lurker, and I'm flattered by your implication that I am a master lurker! So, of course I have no intention of denying it! Remember, the definition of a lurker is: lurker: One who posts occasionally or not at all but is known to read the group's postings regularly. Sincerely, CJ your resident forum lurker.
  9. OK, I'll use spoiler spaces so to avoid anyone seeing this and glancing at it. Go read the chapter first, it is WELL worth it! Spoilers below (left click and then drag your mouse over them to highlight and view the text.)
  10. I voted "other" for much the same reasons Graeme did. I feel that what is the most important depends on story type and plot. A coming out story has far different needs than a technothriller, for example.
  11. Excelent! I do agree that DK is really showing how this is making Eddie re-asses himself, and make some very hard choices. My favorite quote from this chapter:
  12. Glomph got it! :ranger: Yep, sunglasses. Here is a bigger pic. (click to see full size)
  13. Nope. I'm not gonna ask... I'm far too shy for that. The person below me, though, will ask Marty what story he is waiting for.
  14. Ohhh!! That sounds like an excellent idea... Ummm, on second thought, no, it doesn't! BTW, I can't resist pointing out that it was only on June 17th of this year that Kitty reached 1000. Congratulations again Kitty!
  15. My own hunch is that Sci fi has a narrower audience, but a more dedicated one. My own pics were Dreams first and Bully second, but that is because I am truly hooked by Dreams. Don't get me wrong, I love "the Bully", but Dreams just really appeals to a sci-fi lover like me.
  16. Dezl, THANK YOU for raising this issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In my case, I requested constructive criticism in both the story page, and in the thread, and even begged via PM for some critical reviews. I was delighted to receive the ones I did from Knotme and Graeme! I also appreciate everyone who commented. I think I need to be more direct, and not say "constructive criticism" but say criticisms instead. Basically, the reason I chose the former is I don't want to just be told "Your story sucks". What I want is to be tole WHY my story sucks. I think I'm going to say exactly that next time. I know that I'm far more comfortable in some cases giving a critical review in a PM than I am in a public post, unless I know the Author is ok with it being public. I probably won't have chance this weekend (Weekends are very busy for me) but by Monday I'll have another look at your story and do my best to write up a critical review, and post it in your thread. And thank you for raising this issue, as it is one that I feel strongly about too.
  17. Why, Graeme, the answer is "nearly all of them"! Now, where did I put that inflatable raft...
  18. That's a darn good point, Bardeara! This might well have been the only such thread on GA, so it would not have been too hard..
  19. I've never liked Pumpkin pie, or pie in general, but Cheesecake is another matter entirely! Yummm!! The person below me is planning a non-traditional menu for thanksgiving.
  20. Actually, yes, I do indeed and will be fairly soon. The person below me is planning their thanksgiving dinner!

    Why knotme?

From one blog newbie to another: Welcome to Blogging!! Thanks for the explanation of your name, I'd always wondered. I think it is great that you put so much thought into your avatar! I like it!! Me, I'm lazy and so I just used a self-pic.
  22. Very cleverly done! It really gave it a "feel" of depth and deeper meanings. One thing that you didn't do that caught my eye: refer to the months by name. That would have caused a lot of double-takes north of the equator when you started describing the cold winter winds of... July.
  23. Jeep Repair Manual in my pants... Ugh, yeah, about as much fun as it sounds.
  24. Ahhem! I will happily agree there! The prefix "cent", after all, denotes 100. Totally agreed. Thank you Kitty, and Congratulations!!!
