Hi Gary! How's the heat wave up north?
-
The cultural difference between those how came forward and Brendan Wyre folk are only one of the reasons for the wild rumors being spread about D'gar. F'drun was an evil bastard and certainly earned his death in the volcano. Jevikel's keen observations and analytical thinking keep him from falling for all the gossip around him. Kadin's good heart keeps him from also making judgements too fast. I was glad that Bavi told them the truth however brief her explanation. Jevikel observing D'gar talking to the Benden rider of the injured green dragon was another positive point for Jevikel to help him understand better the man who will be his Weyrling Master. @Mawgrim, I love the way you convey information in the dialogue so well written and realistic.

Reika make the capture, but Thomas has the means to get to the mound. My dilemma is that I am on the limb with this idea. The lycans don't need to worry about the gods if they destroy all the worshippers of these perverted gods. These gods only live on as long as they have worshippers. The other gods disappeared when they no longer had lycans to worship them. Kill those in the village and you kill their gods. I'm ready to take the fall now.

Yeah. We all know Spike likes to propose things like removing the scruff from one of the studs Gary posts. 🤠

Hi Albert! We're doing well. I have been lazy for the last few days. Some cooking and a lot of reading. The weather is good here. How about you and Steve?
-
The forces of good are gathering at the gates of the academy. When Thomas and Sam arrives, Sam does his usual foot in mouth routine. Axel has a way to go, so I hope he gets there in time for the party. Damned by I missed Susie! She is such a kickass, kick in the butt lady. Axel need to tread lightly around Susie, or he will need time to regrow a set of balls.
-
Great twist for Susie and Alpha Apollo! I was with that one. I like a little humor, because this is one scary chapter. If only our heros knew that there were only Reika and 6 she wolves protecting the other three sacrifices, maybe they could rescue those with a quick counter strike. I wonder what Thomas and Sam will be doing? Are they scouting to locate the Serpent Mounds?

Only if you want to wake and shake them up a bit!

Great chapter! I don't think that Rieka could have killed the real people in the dream, but the illusion was enough to get Bernie to say her name. Joe is a lycan wolf, but how did George know that! Another mystery to me is that neither Manny or Jenna reacted as I would have expected. Why were they less than totally freaked out by what they witnessed? PS I hope Eugene gets his ass fired!

Things are going OK and Bernie is having fun with his friends. As he is explaining himself to them, the story told seems to reveal a very mischievous and prankster trait to the wights. I kind of feel sorry for them since they were innocent kids sacrificed to these vicious, ancient gods, then made their half dead slaves. However, Joe just jinx himself. I suspect that Joe is one of the lycan pups the way he reacted to Marcus' joke.

Given that the werebears have some time, maybe the plan can be refined and strengthened. Considering that these are minor gods, with a handful of worshipers, and will be at the end of their feeding cycle, I am wondering if they are as powerful as everyone thinks. Also, I wonder if there is a way that the wights might be given a chance to rebel or simply complete the change and become ghosts losing their ability to affect reality. Ezekiel and the Shaman used to help Christopher's monsters might be sources of information on how to neutralize the wights.

I am impressed with the Academy set up for the kids. Bernie is immediately accepted into the school by boys his age. His dream/not a dream is a warning and a challenge. I hope Bernie can begin to trust Bill and Gary enough to tell them about what is happening. The sooner it happens, the more time our werebears have to figure out who the enemy is and how to solve the problem.
-
If I remember correctly, Ezekiel, mentioned that Matti was old enough to remember the gods well. It's a good thing Adam got him connected. I am happy that Bill is someone who knows that listening is the better part of communication. Being a werebear does help one to accept Bernie's explanation as truth, when humans don't. At least now Bernie has the support of other werebears and a refuge for a while.

Bernie is in for a very different life than he had in his past. Gary and Bill will be able to help him become a very strong bear. The stage has been set! Now on to the action.

A very nice setup to this tale. I liked the way that the two chapters have quickly formed a solid foundation for the story. I love that Gary and Bill are back and teaming with Daniel. Considering what we know about Bernie's background and his high IQ it doesn't surprise me that he is a kid in trouble. Also, considering Axel and Adam's jobs on the council, I wonder if we will see them in this story involving Ancient Were people. I am sure by my comments you can tell you have hooked me once again.
-
A very scary beginning to this tale. Glad to know Gary and Bill are back. Karhu is a loving and protective Papa for Bernie, but I don't think he will be around to see Bernie growing up. Reika is an evil bitch and the religion they practice sounds very much like fundamentalism. Looking forward to see how it all comes together, and who else we know will become involve.

They arrived in Chicago and Durapar shows exactly why he is on the team convincing Charlie to expand his communication skills. Robin's plan with Blinkin's approval has a good chance of working without anyone getting into danger. Charlie and company have assembled the right team with the right skills for this job. It's going to take all of them with all their different skills to pull off Ricky's rescue. I was happy that Blinkin determined these boojums were not the smartest. However, I hope they are so badly defeated that the smarter boojums in this reality will stay away from this Earth for several more millenium. Of course, we all know that Geron is going to throw a wrench into the rescue to keep it interesting. Can't wait for the next chapter. Why did not the elves develop on this Earth reality?

Axel and his Cub set out to find Axel's Papa. Axel has found true love in Adam, his Cub. Love is new to Axel, because Axel's Papa never showed him love. Axel's life was never easy and his hatred for his Papa had left him a bit broken. Adam knows just what Axel needs to fix his broken soul and love. Arctic Roots is a tale of their adventure to find the Ancient werebear that is Axel's Papa. I had a wonderful time reading this story. It fits so well with the prior two books, and the three flow easily from one to the next. That is a great achievement by itself. However, I was most impressed by how this book not only can stand alone, but does so in a completely different style that blends several genres. It's an adventure, historical biography and a romance wrapped up in a road trip.

Epilogue – The Polar Cub’s First Change

You had me the second I started reading the description of Adam's tattoo. I knew immediately the origin and how Adam got the picture. I got the magazine wrong, and didn't know which friend sent the picture, but everything else was great. I have a feeling Adam will be spending a lot of time on his back as Axel studies the details of the picture for the next several centuries.

Now that 4000 year old horrible hermit is now just an older version of @Grumpy Bear, I'm getting a kick reading about him. He's and Ancient facing his future. I hope he stays connect and teleconferences with other werebears in the future. This is an absolute delight to read.

I thought that was @Mrsgnomie?

Grand Papa finally gets what he wants after 1000 years, even if he doesn't deserve it. The question is will it be enough to entice him back to civilization and abandon the villagers he has protected. I think not, but it may at least re-establish communication with the werebear world and a better relationship with Axel and Adam.
-
Their destination has been reached. It seems Matti has been a good neighbor and protects the village. Unless Matti has changed, I'm not sure the "Hi everyone, Could you tell Matti his cub has come home." is going to get immediate results. Hopefully, I'm wrong.

Poor Lenny. He was a sweet kid, not bright, but sweet. Axel should not hold himself responsible for what happened to Lenny. His upbringing and that Reverend that twisted his mind are more to blame than Axel. Axel's only mistake was to not take enough time to slowly approach the subject.
