The bunker was a great find, but I am not sure the message on the wall was made by one of the first colonists. First, the message is written in charcoal on the wall. Why would the first colonists to that in a building they were occupying. Second, is the mention of herd as if it is important to know the location of the herd. Last is Hunting Beasts. This suggests that they were being hunted by some beasts, maybe erdbeest? Or Royal Erdbeets?

I love the idea of Gilles and Felix being bonded for life. Except for his father, it seems the family is mostly supporting. I also liked that the Margrave of Schwarzwald and his wife will be there for the ceremony. It does sound like there will be a major war that will involve all the kingdoms shortly. That is very distressing.

Some more finds to verify and expand on the written history of early colonization are significant. They seem to begin to focus on the downfall of those same early settlements resulting in lose of technology. It would seem the events uncovered are of warfare followed by a reversion to middle ages economies and social structure. I wonder how the church and kingdoms will react to these finds when they are published.

The chapter was very relaxed and flowed nicely. I had to chuckle at Rupe's glee in how he was going to torture the boys after he tells them about plans for their pairing with two females. I do feel sorry for the girls. They don't have a chance with these two guys.

Rupe and Joerg are so nicely matched. Joerg is one of those people who seem to age more slowly. The coin is a very valuable piece of history and proof of the English participation in the colony. I wonder what went wrong that the English are no longer part of the society and why their presence was obliterated. Since there are stars within each of the three colonies, do the stars represent settlements/cities in the original three regions? A lot of new questions as well as places to research/dig for Rupe and Joerg.

Interesting chapter that makes it seem that Ravello is breaking apart. I don't think that Toto and Michele are breaking up. Toto doesn't seem to have been given an opportunity to explain what he meant. These two need some time to cool down. Giaco wasn't given a chance by Dani either. I think that Dani is acting too much like Marco did before, and didn't feel up to a confrontation with Laura around. I do hope Dani decides to talk to Angelo soon. Angelo and Gianni have helped the younger gays with insights and suggestions their age and experiences provides. I do worry for Sami and hope that Dani and Marco can help him. As always Ravello provides much to discuss about relationships and changes in life. Great chapter.

Rupe has made some fascinating finds in the catacombs of the Holy See. I wonder what they will see when Han finishes cleaning the coin. It is interesting that the Royal Erdbeest is so different from the normal erdbeest. The size and shape of the skull indicates that they are different species. Will this be important? It sounds by the gossip around the table, that the civil war has started and Kristijen handed his uncle a major defeat. Reading this chapter feels like working on two different puzzles at the same time.

I am happy that Dr. Tannerman was with Rupe when he went to Ostburg. First, because it cemented his relationship with Rupe on a professional basis. Second, because Dr. Tannerman was there to help Felix. Last, because Dr Tannerman is not a resident of Blauwhaven estate and part of the family. Rupe's flirting with Joerg was very unexpected, but also very nice. Joerg's reaction was interesting since he got embarrassed and avoided the question entirely. Rupe handled the duel with the second in a most interesting and honorable way. I am looking forward to the upcoming trip and what we will see and discover.

I most certainly didn't like Anton, but trying to raping a little child like Ludwig is just plain evil. I am hoping that Rupe is a great swordsman and Anton's life is finished. I am very proud of Felix to demand to be his brother's second. Of course, this also give Anton time to make an escape and join in the battles in Ardhesse.

I like Dr. Tannerman. He's both a scientist and a historian. He seems an intellectual match to Rupe. Rupe's response to the boys' matchmaking did not make sense, since it was established that priests can be married. IMO Tannerman would make a much better match for Rupe than Anton, who I don't like. I hope to see more of Tannerman in the story.

Everything seems to be working out in favor of these guys, until the last paragraph. I did like the interview with Wenzel and got a great laugh at the antics of the two young boys. The best line was this. The trip went well and the description painted a very verdant and rich agricultural economy. The estate??? I guess that 40 years since it has been inhabited does lend to neglect. However, I do highly question retaining the manager suggested by their grandmother. There may be income, but it sounds like a lot of it lined pockets instead of maintaining the property.

Mereval's display of the ancestors of the Kardoval did seem clumsy. It only displayed the reason the rebels want change. The current Kardoval members are from a limited group of families that have been ruling for centuries or millennia. Change is now needed to deal with what is happening around them in the galaxy. Asas seem to be a good diplomat who can even get laughs from people who may be his enemies. Whatever the orbs that crashed into the dinner was supposed to do, it was an amazing accomplishment by Asas' mech that got rid of them before they orbs did whatever they were supposed to do. Garjah is definitely still in charge of security. I want to know more about what the orbs were supposed to do and who sent them.

I like Rupe's plan to keep Gilles and Felix together in a situation that is both more comfortable and more discrete. It will also provide a better future for Gilles if/when Felix dies. I am not sure that Anton is the same boy the Rupe remembered as a youth. Rupe abandoned an innocent boy who loved him. Over the years Anton has been corrupted by those who used him for sex. He seems to have a bit of resentment towards Rupe as a result. As he rose in rank, it seems his soul has suffered and become more worldly and possibly corrupt. He does not seem to a fit companion for Rupe. The short of it, is that I don't trust Anton. The sad, loving boy was lost to the past.

Ruprecht's love for both of these boys is so sadly revealed. That they find comfort in each other is important to him. He knows his brother's live will be short and Gilles' feelings for Felix are a treasure that Ruprecht can help them keep secret. Felix has one thing good in his life now, a true friend in Gilles, and Gilles has someone who needs him. I am sure that they both realize they are in love, and for the present are happy. Ruprecht has also given them more time together. I am sure that they also love him as a brother and friend.

Ruprecht’s grandmother seems a very pragmatic and capable regent. She has great care and love for not only her family, but her subjects. She is smart to arrange for Ruprecht to be able to take care of himself. I liked the description of Ruprecht's hideaway. I wonder if he will find Anton again. I understand his concern that his young brother, Felix, is being sent south away from what is happening in the kingdoms to the north.

Very interesting development of Ruprecht and Kris' characters. Both seem to be very complex and layered people. Gilles is also an interesting person. He is naive, but very intelligent and independent. There are enough clues from Ruprecht to come to the conclusion this is not Earth, but a long lost colony that has for some reason lost much of the technology that it took to arrive at this planet. I love this kind of story and look forward to see what happens next.
