  1. An easier experiment to try than what might be attempted in a chemistry lab, and much more pleasant to the ear. Thanks for reading this and for your thoughts.
  2. You’re amazingly kind. I’m glad it gives you a dance feel; better still, you like what the poem says. I’m grateful you took time to read and respond to this.
  3. Thank you! Singsong is a good way to describe how I heard some of these lines. If you felt buoyant too, that’s awesome. Thank you for looking at this.
  4. It’s a fun pattern to write in, allowing for various kinds of changes in tempo. Thank you for trying it on for size.
  5. Blame whoever taught George Herbert for the complex rhyme and meter scheme. I found it fascinating, almost conversational, and an irresistible challenge. Thanks very much for having a good look at these neo-Jacobean lines.
  6. Desire conceived in snapshot haste entangles swift those pliant minds with thoughts unchaste which veer and drift upon sharp shoals of wreck and waste. Seduced by fantasies untold soon one is bound by sirens’ songs surpassing cold, no pity found, or captives who were e’er paroled. Once caught within this mental trap, How to escape? For there’s no well-marked folding map, or hole agape in fences which around us wrap.

    Family

The last three chapters were posted during Garden Week - that stretch of time it takes to till, dig, plant and fence the garden. I missed them until today! But in catching up, I savored every word, loving how Bailey and Harlan learned to sing their lives together. Thank you!
  8. Oh my, oh my. Jeff kissed Simon. Bet it was better than anything that awful Max ever did. What a wonderful description of something Simon has needed for a long time. And incidentally, how many hearts is Freddie going to break?

    Miles

That was a fun chapter! From the car they rented (better than anything I ever managed) to dinner with Miles and plotting strategy against Greg Nalbo, Brett and César show us how life can be full of zest and interest.
  10. I feel the howling winds and slashing rain of the storm you experienced. While it echoes in the far distance now, you’ve written new thunder to peal across the page. Whoever hurt you should cower under his bed.
  11. Thank you @Carlos Hazday, and all who responded to this question. It’s very interesting to see how one’s reading develops even as one engages with different aspects of the writing process.

    Chapter 3

The marriage seems as polished and sterile as a show kitchen. I wonder what mote of dust or dirt might throw all of it awry.
  13. Happy New Year and a new story. Liebe will be swearing like a sailor by eighteen months. Greg Nalbo in default? A new SoCal pied-a-terre for the squad? This great ensemble introduction has me wondering what’s in store.
  14. I join @dughlas in crying. I’m heartsick at what’s happened, at the injustice and at feeling powerless. At least you have given my feelings voice and broken their silence.

    Trust

Trust. It can make the world spin, and the universe move. You again show us this at work in the many-stranded tapestry woven around the camp. Bailey, Harlan, Huck, Orson, Elias, and Rayne - all made wonderfully into scenes showing us Trust. Awesome. And Harlan’s idea of breakfast made me gain five pounds just reading about it!

    Worthy

Elias and Rayne share a first kiss, and it’s simply beautiful. The dinner date was described so well, we were the invisible guests, not Shawn. I’m wondering about Shawn, and his reaction to the whole scenario. Could there be another reason for his watery smile? In any case, Harlan has better realize that Bailey deserves his unvarnished truth, sooner rather than later. Awesome chapter!

    Chapter 2

Now the mystery deepens: what is Jimmy, and who is he hunting? And why? Even as we linger under the moon’s silver light, I’ll be looking forward to answers next week.

    Chapter 1

Well, now I’m scared to put into the woods under the full moon! Great beginning.

    The rheal

I like you as you are.
  20. N’than shamed the General with his forebearance and mercy. The man deserved the sharks. You wrote that scene especially well; the tension was electric. I enjoyed this story and the world you built for it. I hope there may be more one day.
  21. Thank you for saying something I needed to read and hear today, and for saying it simply and powerfully.

    Connection

I like the title to this chapter, because it fits so well. Dad is an awesome word, and Elias’ using it helped Orson know his connection with the boy has changed, but will not break. Bailey and Harlan connected, and their ties are now growing. Now what about Elias, Rayne and Huck?
  23. Out of the frying pan... N’Than escaped from The Wonder and back to Smeeth, to my relief. For the moment, he must be unaware of the new danger. The General can’t believe the hydrocivis wouldn’t harm a soul. How terrible his wrath must be. Great chapter.

    Translations

Is there a poetry gene? I hope I’ve got it. Thanks for your comments and for reading these.

    Translations

Thanks for reading these. For the moment, I’ll have to wait for my older siblings to do the translating.
