I’m humbled by your characterization of these small offerings. It was so good of you to read them, and it makes me smile to know you enjoyed the moments you spent with them. Thank you!
Thank you very much for reading these and for your words of encouragement. Perhaps they seem playful because I haven’t been able to get out so much. Or maybe it’s just spring. Thanks again.
Thank you for taking the time to read these. That you read April 21 three times makes me blush that you thought it worth the trouble. It’s also grand that April 17 connected with you. You’re so good to comment on these.
April 15
Pray tell where wild mergansers go
when the north wind rages
and creeks their verdant banks o’erflow
where ancient cottonwoods still grow
gnarled as bearded sages?
What sheltered nest, what warm retreat
from the tempest howling,
awaits a creature most discreet,
protection in the cold and sleet
from sleek hunters prowling?

Let’s hear it for Chase, who forced Hank to see outside his own four walls of anger and fear. Hank may not entirely believe it all, but perhaps he can see more than he did earlier. Chase can let Hank figure out what to do with all this information and experience now. He knows Hank will need plenty of time for that.
You aptly describe the Great Pause and what happens internally while the world plays freeze tag with our lives. I’m very sorry you’ve felt under the weather, and hope you are better.
I confess to wanting leftovers - lemon meringue pie is such a favorite. I'm glad you liked April 12. And I am glad the last one connected with you, too. Many thanks for reading.
I am glad it is not yet gnat/blackfly season yet. Splat, indeed! And the last one expresses some of my frustration in having to correspond and "zoom meet" for everything instead of sharing life with living, breathing students and friends. Thank so much for reading and for your comments!

A raindrop’s life is short,
no time for sex or sport
and worse I must report:
the ground it must abort.
Compare this to the gnat
long weeks an insect brat
on bitten blood grown fat,
ends in a messy splat.
And what to make of man
whose time the years may span:
a charted course he ran
that rarely went to plan.
Much longer lasts the sun,
which has more time for fun;

The roller coaster ride continues. Hank and Chase ride back up to a beautiful high spot, with vistas of reconciliation and mended hearts, only to plummet into the depths at the coffee shop. Hank’s mother has no idea what an emotional vortex she’s stepping into.
It would be difficult for Troy to turn Grant down in the midst of a trip like that. But they’re so deeply in love, ‘hell yes’ seems like the only answer possible. This chapter seems so suffused with their love. Thank you.
