  1. I’m so glad April 12 touched a chord. Sometimes, I think blank paper has the most snarky, taunting voice... thanks so much for reading and commenting.
  2. Thank you Adi for reading these. April 13 is indeed that celebration you spoke of. Why the downcast devotees of uniformity always get the most attention eludes me. You are welcome at my streambank any day. I must cross it on my way to and from work. I’ll look for you.
  3. Thank you for taking in the full panoply of last week’s offerings. I’m very glad you found them to your liking.
  4. I’m in your debt for such kind words. Your laughter at April 12 is music to me. And I am glad the last stanza of April 11 agreed with you, too. April 13 may be a personal favorite, though it has competition from the 14th. Thanks so very much for reading these and for your thoughts.

    Brotherly Love

Yes, Caleb, you’re one hell of a catch. And if you admit the truth to yourself, then you can begin living. Charles is immensely understanding. Will he scare Wren off or bring his friend and brother together? Can’t wait to find out.
  6. Thank you for your generous words. I’m immensely grateful, as I was unsure if April 14 worked. As for April 8, I know I am my own worst critic; and the next day seemed an elegy for a poem that refused to emerge onto paper. It did indeed get better after that. Thanks again.

    Easter Witness

I think the analysis provided in this story is compelling. Some feel terribly, existentially threatened by a world that no longer uniformly believes in the ideas they espouse. And the literal interpretation of scripture - very rightly - does not get the deference it once did, nor do those who claim a monopoly on that interpretation. Sadly, they see not beauty in love, but an attack on their sense of righteousness.
  8. April 8 The words I tell myself when I’m alone no man of worth or merit would endure for he would hardly suffer to inure himself to phrases cutting to the bone. Such things I utter when I’m on my own remind me that I’ll never be secure for I must keep my hot self hatred pure nor any sort of punishment postpone. Remonstrance, reason, none will I receive, for in my denigration must I dwell; yet there is one who hastens to relieve me fro

    Lust

This poem works for me. I can feel the anticipation and electricity.

    Farmer Wren

Uncles are likely to play nasty. They probably don’t want to pay for lawyers, so I’d bet on dirty dealings and causing accidents. But the money will go a long way to make Wren solvent. Now I’d like to see what happens between Wren and Caleb.
  11. I know that writing can ease the ache of melancholy and recollection. I’m so sorry for the hurt you feel. If my hug can help brighten the sky even a little, then I offer mine to you.

    GMA XVII

Brad’s story makes me so sad, as do the true tales of the returning Afghan war vets I have met in my real life. It’s the centerpiece of this chapter to me. Brad is lucky to have such a group surrounding him, to hold him up even when he wants to fall. Great chapter.

    What I Leave

There are likes and loves, and sad tears, too. Yet there are no combinations of all these. What you have written here makes me nod in agreement: how do we learn to trust our own voices? Later, you make me want to reach out in embrace. Thank you.
  14. How heartbreaking that Sablo and Theo are apart. Kittens, roses, costumes - all very nice. Sablo might need to buy a bike and chase Theo down on it. Preferably catching him in a secluded lane, with a mossy glade nearby. Just a suggestion. But I have confidence in you. You won’t keep lovers apart for too long. Please.

    Offering

I enjoyed this chapter for the gathering mystery and further questions you generated. What is up with Larry, and how will Maurice play into things? What will Wolfgang and Jed do with the information they possess? And can Wolfgang get to enjoy taming Jed’s beast every day? Thanks for this chapter.
  16. Thank you for this. I needed it today.

    Day 6 - Day 10

I delighted in Drop. A great story from beginning to end. Companion made me blink back a tear, just as Sunday caused me to break into a wide smile. Gemengelage makes a perfect sound for a situation and a word which means nothing but hurt for the world. And Blank certainly resonates with me, surely. Thank you for writing these, and for sharing them with everyone.
  18. Good morning. None of the predicted snow appeared. And the sapsuckers are drumming...

    Broken Blood

Well. Three odious, tobacco-growing, ignorant uncles, one sweet mother, and deep, solid friendships that stood the tests of distance and time. You showed us these really well. The touch of soiling the red carpet at the viewing was perfect. And now you come to the matter of the will. What does Wren want with a farm? The uncles are spitting nails, but I bet the grandfather made sure it was airtight. Of course I want to see what happens next.

    Like You

Your words fill a reader with yearning. Your last line give us all hope. Wonderful poem.
  21. Thank you so much Gary. I fed and watered and cared for that horse as my summer job when I was 13 and 14, in addition to yard and garden work. We became friends, and I remember her fondly.
  22. This is such a fantastic poem. I’m immensely grateful you set it out here, still more that you found a connection between it and this first installment for 2019. You are most generous in reading and commenting on them.

    Money Talks

Eric is a prime example of why some people need shock collars. Ben should realize that nasty men like that won’t stay bought, though. Unless Ben can install a shock collar, too... great chapter, thank you!
  24. Thank you for finding and sharing this! Here indeed is an essential joy of April and May.
