I am always enchanted by returning birds of all varieties. The shoveler ducks are especially fun to watch, and their poem felt most like my connection to their experience.

You are right in that it's hard to remain upbeat in the face of a major health episode. But the quiet times of observation and reflection help build reserves that let us care and support the ones we love.

To share may also be to connect; to reflect can also be to absorb from others. I am in awe if those who must bear the pain, and those who spend the hours in healing, in caring, and in bringing compassionate cheer. Thank you for your encouragement.

I'm glad you could see it, as I did. It's hardly impeccable, but it is true. It's just been difficult.

I sit here at my Mother's bedside. She is terribly weak, needs to eat, but finds it is very hard to do. The hospital food does not make the task easier. We two amused ourselves by watching YouTube clips of Victor Borge, whom she very much enjoyed, and I fear I have lulled her to sleep with the sound of my voice, reading an online novel by W. Somerset Maugham. I could not find a 'cheery' book, as she wanted, but then, she had no suggestions, either, being tired out by the work

This poem speaks deeply to me. It radiates both consolation and hope. The contrast between light and dark is very effective. Beautiful.

I know something of a pain and ache like this one. You can explain, but none can hear, you can cry, but the tears mean nothing to anyone else. But I can relate to this - hiding behind a screen of what's usual, while feeling more and more apart. Very well said.

I find the images and metaphor released in number 2 to be very powerful in my mind. Ursula LeGuin wrote about oaks, memorably, and so have you. Number 4 tells us of hurt and being spent, of a darkness few can understand, even as you and those who care for you fight it. Number 3 is part and parcel of this, and its simple eloquence is chilling all the more for it. Number 1 recalls the love which anchors you, and which calls to the reader even as one progresses into darkness. Beautiful and eloquent.

My heart soars to the sky with you, trembles in the wind, sighs in wonder at the panoramas below...a beautiful poem. The last line is so sad by contrast. But the whole is lovely.
