Cookie was a deeply devious man in this...but Scott must realize how right Cookie is. He learned and now knows quite a lot. Scott's heart must be gone into overdrive with Graham at the door. Well, Scott was indeed furious with Cookie, but slightly mollified, by his praises, too. You're right in that Cookie is no dummy. A sort of benign predator in his own right, maybe. Am wondering what to do about the next chapter...Misery should have published tomorrow, so now I wonder if I publish another chapter tomorrow, or do I wait a week?

I doubt Scott will turn out to be a rich software guru. His work is pretty specialized. It might eventually make a small down payment on a car, maybe. Besides, the conversation about to take place will hold Scott's interest more...thanks for reading and for your thoughts and encouragement.

Yes you unexpectedly got a bonus chapter, as auto post doesnt seem to be working right. But I really appreciate your comments and encouragement. Graham is a thoughtful guy. But he had been hit with quite a bombshell, so what has to say may not be good.

Four days to go. Four days and the cruise would be over. The past two days had been eternal enough; how was he going to make it through four more? tim, this is an awesome story. I completely agree with Bucket, Alonzo is clueless. You make that clear in that Evan wants success on his own terms. To be told by a successful writer that your writing is good is such incredible affirmation and encouragement. Hugh's question goes directly to my own heart, and to other writers' hearts, too: "you ever think that they were telling you the truth?" For those who have no status in professional writing, to answer affirmatively is unthinkable. Beautifully honest, and encouraging. I really want to know more about Evan, though. Someday, maybe? Please?

Perhaps your math teacher long ago should have been a poet. Or a musician. Or a builder. Sometimes I think math language is surreal precisely because we keep it locked up in a special box used only for mathematics. But I am so very happy you took the trouble to understand these; my heart dances for that, too.

I shall not give you detention, but a ruler and compass for drawing. I am happy if these at least change your perspective on mathematics from 'impossible' to 'amusing.' Thank you for bearing with me when I gabble on about numbers and maths. It is such fun to put that language into a wholly different context.

Incidents like what happened to Ben can happen if school staff or parents or friends aren't vigilant enough. This chapter is a clear call to look out in compassion for those trying to fly below the radar. Ben and Sam have each other, but it would be a whole lit better if they had a community at their back.

The pairings are so sweet, and the joy of their discovery..or rediscovery...is a truly wonderful thing to behold. But now I feel so badly for the others whose mates are yet to be found, who don't get to experience that incredible joy. Perhaps there is something the alpha-pair in the persons of Kellar and Tobyn may do. But the malaise must surely be dissipating, as the packs come together. There will surely be joy in the north woods.
