    Morning Light

TP and Marc may have a rocky outing. Marc may simply seethe in silence, rather than risk a full on rant. What ever happens, it will not be meaningless. Your comments on food banks and homeless college students points again to some of the terrible choices students are being faced with as they struggle to make their very thin budgets work. Thank you for this response and for your excellent remarks.

Mercy is such a hard thing to accept, and such a powerful the indeed. Perhaps Marc and Lee can help the predator understand mercy. At least Lee is trying. But will the predator try too? Many thanks for your support and response.

    Morning Light

Somehow, Lee understands mercy, understands forgiveness. Marc is learning, maybe, and has the chance of a lifetime to be faced with someone who was responsible for a degree of his own pain. I suspect that it either of these are hard for Marc to give, they will be harder to accept for the predator. Thanks for your steadfast support and response!

Our predator is currently quiescent, if not tamed by his misfortune. The chapter title may be overdoing it, for he isn't de-clawed or de-fanged. Marc might question the predator, or he may just seethe in silence. But you are right in that Lee will be kept well away from the predator, especially if Marc has anything to do about it. Many thanks for your review and response!
  5. The morning was hardly more pleasant than the night before. He heard kitchen noises faintly through the closed door as he woke. The morning sun leaked in through the blinds. He sat up. For the first time in days, his neck and shoulders felt fine. No stiffness or soreness from sleeping on a library couch or in the car. When he appeared in the kitchen, though, Marc was no less inimical than eight hours earlier, while Lee seemed much more wary, much more cautious around him. They must have talke
  6. Thank you, Gary, for your response and encouragement. They are indeed both memorials; and helped ease the sadness. You are often right, that writing can help the hurt.

    Chapter 7

Oh, how awful. At least, I hope you will tell us what happened. Now, you make me want to weep, too. And Dave will not merely be heartbroken, he will blame himself forever. Bit in a way, he had to come there to find out...
  8. I am glad you liked them both. Both we're written as reactions to memorials I had to attend, and I wanted to capture both the sadness and the joy of recollection I experienced at each one. Thanks for your response!
  9. No, not too bad, even so. Thank you for looking at them both and I hoped you felt a little of what I did in writing them. Many thanks for your encouragement and support.
  10. Does this mean my initials become VSOP (Very Silly Old Poet)? Thank you for your encouragement , both now and in the past. Both these poems were composed in response to memorials I attended this year; 'Melody' tried to catch some of the real tears and hurt, and so perhaps being lachrymose is right for that instance, but not outside it. I liked Last Exhibit better, also. I am glad it warms on a chill day; the actual event was on a cool and rainy day, too. Thank you for responding to these!
  11. Last Exhibit Foregathered here around a silent flame a lonely taper lights the crowded room, that chamber where nobility once came to sport or dance, dispelling winter's gloom. Let deep and meditative quiet fall in contemplation that your hands are still, and travel now beyond the farthest wall, and we have not your wisdom or your skill. But as an inner spirit guides, some rise to speak your care, or love, or counsel kind; a tapestry of life before our eyes unfo
  12. So Warren has proven his worth! And now the shifters can walk somewhat more invisibly to the Reznicks of the world. But now there is a further need for some way to detect Reznicks. And a way to hunt them down, or render them harmless. Great chapter, Gary...more please!

Now you make me jealous of the easy confidence and cameraderie of the bikers and the road. Great writing.

    Chapter 19

A little confidence from Zac, some jealousy and hurt delivered from Adrian, and now the newspaper guy, Austin. Zac could make a friend, for certain, maybe something more. But he still hasn't sorted out his feelings for Adrian, despite the sounds of slamming doors. I feel for Adrian. He has pressures and a family to live with that Zac really can't fathom. If he has to survive by his wits for the months remaining at home, then perhaps that is the best alternative...for Adrian. But for Zac? Not sure.
  15. Whew! More excitement in Daleville! Don't the far right people have anything better to do than get into shoving matches with their opponents? How very silly of them, and how clever of Don and the rest to ambush them. Hope the harpies don't get wind of who orchestrated their downfall; it could get nastier than nasty again.
  16. I know that smell, and the scents that go with the earth at different times of the year. They remind you that the earth is alive, that it changes as you do, as your own seasons change. But the smell of fall rain is special, and you capture that beautifully. Thank you for reminding us.

    Can I Forgive?

What answer can you give? Only you can decide that. Your brother did not live the life you had to, and the old tyrant who sent you to perdition, does he regret one word, one shove out the door? This comes through clearly. Gary spoke eloquently, too. Whatever you choose, know that there is a whole cloud of loving support behind you. xo P

    Shelter

Our predator appears to have felt something in his heart for the first time in a while. If that stirring of heart and conscience can rekindle even a small flame of hope, then perhaps our predator-turned-prey might be able to look for a better way to lead his life. Thanks for the support, and for continuing to read this story!
  19. Well. Sure CJ isn't running for office? He's mighty smooth. Looking forward to a whole bunch of new plot lines that run out from under the door you shut on Travels. Definitely do not want to be in the room when Cesar starts the lecture. My ears would hurt, I think. Many thanks for a great story, and looking forward to more in 2017.

    Chapter 18

Choices were there, and Kenny, Adrian and Zac made theirs. Only Zach seems to have made a decision that will turn out moderately well. But the thing is, everyone is presented with decisions al the time, and some are more crucial than others. In Adrian's case, he may get another chance to decide...though it will be too late for Zac. Kenny, to, may have another big choice of doors. One can only hope they don't mess up their choices then, as they have now. Great chapter!

You ask about whether the predator is sorry, and it appears that he is, indeed, unhappy with himself and what he has done in his life. He hates that the video is online, too. Lee is an amazingly good man. Another reader called him a star, and that was how I hoped to portray him. He is certainly the light of this chapter. Many thanks!

Marc is definitely displeased to see the predator. But he knew it could go badly. The predator knows he is helpless and vulnerable. He is desperate, and probably does not think clearly about how Marc will react. Given the condition of the suite, campus housing could have kicked out the tenants. They must have been shocked, shocked, that parties were being thrown there...

    Shelter

Unquestionably, Lee is the best thing to happen to our predator now, and to Marc earlier. Amazing the effect one person can have. It is one thing to show the predator kindness, another to feel sorry for him. I think you balance that very well. You don't hate him, but his situation is clearly deserved. Marc and Lee have shown kindness, and in some ways that seems to hurt more than insults. But you are right...Lee is a bright spot in a dark tale...

    Shelter

The predator wept. There are a thousand ways to fall, differing only in the timbre and twist of the pain at impact. Surely there are pieces to pick up. But are any of them worth salvaging? In any case, you are right in that our predator is feeling wretched, and perhaps there is a cardiac warm spell beginning. But you are wise to wait and see. Marc made it clear he wants him gone...many thanks for your continued reading and patience....

    Hunting

The lack of a name simply began the story, and. It seemed impossible to name the predator thereafter. For you are right in that his actions were unspeakable, and it is hard to humanize him even in the smallest way. And yet he must have had a name...and a heart...once. Thank you for speaking about this. I am very glad you continue to read this story and I thank you for your review.
