  1. TP is about to embark on a voyage unlike anything he's experienced. Unlike any of the other interns, he probably has minimal understanding or orientation about what's about to happen, despite the manuals he got to peruse. But you are surely right that the girls have the wrong idea. I am so glad you liked Cookie and Cal; these are fun characters to sketch. Many thanks for your thoughts, and for reading.
  2. This life is certainly alien to TP in so many ways. If it hadn't been for the events of the past month, he'd never have accepted being called 'Wally' by anyone. You are certainly right in that Joshua is clueless about his new bunkmate. But Joshua appears to be such an earnest nerd, he probably wouldn't see the evidence unless it swam under his microscope. Many thanks for your comments and thoughts.
  3. There was something off about Gordon from the beginning. You made that impression stick, and continued to torture the reader with it, even through the sex Harry and Gordon enjoy. How important that impression was - otherwise, the reader might howl for Harry and Gordon to get together - but that would be as meaningless as Gordon's lifeless marriage. Another well written chapter, thank you.
  4. It's kind of creepy - whistling in the dark outside the window, let alone what Harry sees - and yet, like Harry, you get us to be drawn into the experience almost without understanding it. excellent work!
  5. No question that TP - Wally, as the Purser calls him - must be surprised and reeling from this rapid change. Marc certainly found a way to get him a long, long, way out of the house. Perhaps Marc did not trouble himself to consider if TP would be a danger to anyone else; rather he may have thought being cut off from his usual haunts and suppliers would be sufficient. As for the other lad, I wonder if he might not be a bit earnest...many thanks for your thoughts and impressions, and for continuing to read this story.
  6. The quarters will surely be tight, as you say. But for now, much depends on how TP fits into the shipboard routine. All this happened so fast, his head must be spinning. Thanks so much for your comments and for reading!
  7. Wally it is, indeed. Funny how some people - like Cookie - live by nicknames. Funnier still that so many of us have accepted them over time.
  8. The research vessel RV Feigenbaum had been named after a generous University benefactor who'd made the lead gift to buy the ship. Built as trawler, then refitted as an oceangoing research lab, the Feigenbaum made regular cruises in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the gulf stream. The Captain, or Master, as he was called, George McCallum, signed him on as a student volunteer with almost unbecoming speed. Apparently, there was a shortage of volunteers for January term, and had been for
  9. Yes, Tom, you were cheating. It wasn't physical, but it was cheating, despite it being more subtle, more metaphysical. Peter was perfectly justified in his reaction, but it hardly makes the pain of the ruptured relationship any easier. Peter describes scenes of trying to kill the pain, and there are rays of hope that break through the resignation and hurt. Thanks at least for that much. And for the recipes , Adi.

    Chapter 25

A wonderfully sweet ending to a terrific story. I enjoyed each chapter. Beautifully portrayed. Many thanks for this story.

    Turned Loose

TP must feel fresh burns from the scorching heat of Marc's words on the way down. I think Marc's parting words reflect precisely what you suggested: he's trying to grow and get over what TP did. In so doing, Marc is again claiming direction and ownership of his life - and reminding TP that their chapter together closed long ago. As for what happens next...that comes soon. Thanks for your reflections and thoughts, and for your patience as I have been slow to respond this week. - P

    Turned Loose

I cannot say if Marc would have accepted an apology. Quite possibly not; but an apology might have helped stem the hurt and bitterness, perhaps. TP seems sorry, as you say, and you are quite right in thinking that he probably can't articulate it. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that TP is learning to be sorry. He surely feels it more and more. I am glad you have respect for Marc; he has had a very long journey, I expect. Thanks for your remarks, and for your patience as I have taken such a long time to respond.

    Sad News

You have my condolences on you loss. You are in my thoughts.
  14. Good for Harry for insisting on backing off. You make me glad to have avoided sociology. The shame is that Nick will have other victims.

    Door#7 - Elixir

Perfectly lovely...love the meddling grandmother, the pining Adam, and the subterfuge. Hooray for Adam and Wade. And thanks for another lovely treat.

    Chapter 9

How good you make it feel. Of course Dave had to take a long time to grieve and to heal enough to choose a future and not a past. How patient and good of Terry to wait. But Barry's not too subtle encouragement helped, didn't it. And I love that they are the bee keepers. There is something very, very touching about that. You have crafted a marvelous story, and you must take your bows! Parker

    Aquinas Frets

Such hope and anxiety and self-questioning all rolled into one nervous bundle. I think I would twitch, too. I am glad you enjoyed reading about Fletcher and Tomas. I wish I had more time to write about them, too.

    Door#6 - To Fly

This was perfectly wonderful. I cannot help but smile for the rest of the day. And I vote Adi. But if I'm wrong, it won't matter a smidge! I'll be smiling anyhow.
  19. I am very happy to see there's more coming. Thanks for a detailed picture of Jackson's training, and for the interaction with his teammates. It looks like there may be a few cracks in the united front of anti-Jackson feeling. Charlie the flirt could spell trouble, though. In the meantime, hooray for Luke at getting up the gumption to sneak out and wait for Jackson. Double hooray for his equanimity at the thought of telling the 'women' (lol, thanks for that!). We all know it isn't really those women who will go ballistic, but one woman in particular. Cindy seems to have an unlimited potential for causing pain and hurt here. Can she be convinced to do otherwise?
  20. Wow. What a beautiful joining. They have given themselves to one another fully and truly. I cannot add much to the chorus of approval and applause, but bravo, Gary, bravo. But while Kellar and Tobyn steal the show (as they should), you give us ample food for thought - is there a way for Warren to help? And the anxiety Elinor must feel can't be anything short of intense. Bet she's not getting any sleep, either. Many thanks for this chapter!

    Chapter 24

Glad Zac finally gave Adrian the serious shove he needed. Adrian has to work out his own path by himself. Given Adrian's circumstances, it could be very difficult - but it doesn't have to be at Zac's expense. Glad Kenny finally saw the light. Perhaps there is hope for the human race after all. Jimmy is an awesome character - everyone should have such a big brother. Now Zac has a greater problem. Austin is not Kenny, and he was hurt far, far more than Zac can know. Zac will have to do something significant - significant to Austin - to prove he's worth forgiving. Great chapter.
  22. Love that restaurant, and the menu. Remind me to retire there...
  23. Val! A beautiful memory...thank you for sharing this!

    Spares

This is an awesome story, and a beautifully written one. So many ways you could have taken this, but the road you chose was utterly brilliant. Completely agree with AC's words and sentiments. Eva is the person who needs some healing, and perhaps she will find it, or see a way to begin. And all because of a flat. Take your bows, maestro, we're applauding.
  25. I vote Adi. And I think my calorie count just blew up. Thank you!
