He settled warily into his role as a tolerated houseguest. Marc and Lee allowed him to stay until something else could be arranged. They were kind enough not throw him out onto the street, even after what he'd done. But Marc never, ever allowed him to stay in the house alone with Lee for any length of time. Never. He understood that, and it hurt. In the run-up to Christmas, he'd been acutely aware of how he couldn't really share in Marc and Lee's lives, and how much Marc and Lee shut him out

I have been slow to wake, to rise and to read today. This was a treat to find! You handled this prompt with finesse, and I love the way you resolved the tensions that underlay Sam's relationship with Randy (way better than Randolf ) And while it is easy to consider the temptation of running away back to Jim, you took a harder, route, but the better one. But I have to admit, Akasha would try my patience terribly... Great story! -

TP (the predator..thank you, drought) can see more clearly than he has been able to in years. Perhaps his perspective is better, and he can see beyond himself and his immediate desires. What does he do with this newer broader vision? You are very, very kind and generous in your comments; I am so very grateful. Thanks especially for hanging in there and reading this tale.

Very well said. I think Lee sees mercy as something that may be a little more detached than forgiveness; maybe it is, as you suggest, an action you can take or something you can do or give. It doesn't necessarily go with forgiveness, which I agree, is something different. Marc may be merciful for Lee's sake, but can he forgive? Can TP accept that? Great thoughts and I appreciate them. Lee threw the lifeline, Marc grudgingly paid out the rope. TP (thanks, drought) has had the good sense to hang on, but as Mayday points out, he is still drifting. Thanks for your encouragement, and for reading!

I don't think the predator (TP, thanks to drought) will ever be fully free of the consequences of his actions. But you are right in that TP now begins to see beyond the borders of himself; his perspective is a little but higher, so he can see farther. Your metaphor of drift is apt, and I think it very wise indeed. And I agree with your perception that it is not light, but something brighter that we see. For TP, that in itself represents a great sea change. Thank you for your acuity, and for your encouragement, and for your kind support. Most of all, thank you for reading!

TP and Marc may have a rocky outing. Marc may simply seethe in silence, rather than risk a full on rant. What ever happens, it will not be meaningless. Your comments on food banks and homeless college students points again to some of the terrible choices students are being faced with as they struggle to make their very thin budgets work. Thank you for this response and for your excellent remarks.

Mercy is such a hard thing to accept, and such a powerful the indeed. Perhaps Marc and Lee can help the predator understand mercy. At least Lee is trying. But will the predator try too? Many thanks for your support and response.

Somehow, Lee understands mercy, understands forgiveness. Marc is learning, maybe, and has the chance of a lifetime to be faced with someone who was responsible for a degree of his own pain. I suspect that it either of these are hard for Marc to give, they will be harder to accept for the predator. Thanks for your steadfast support and response!

Our predator is currently quiescent, if not tamed by his misfortune. The chapter title may be overdoing it, for he isn't de-clawed or de-fanged. Marc might question the predator, or he may just seethe in silence. But you are right in that Lee will be kept well away from the predator, especially if Marc has anything to do about it. The morning was hardly more pleasant than the night before. He heard kitchen noises faintly through the closed door as he woke. The morning sun leaked in through the blinds. He sat up. For the first time in days, his neck and shoulders felt fine. No stiffness or soreness from sleeping on a library couch or in the car. I am glad you liked them both. Both we're written as reactions to memorials I had to attend, and I wanted to capture both the sadness and the joy of recollection I experienced at each one. Thanks for your response!

Does this mean my initials become VSOP (Very Silly Old Poet)? Thank you for your encouragement , both now and in the past. Both these poems were composed in response to memorials I attended this year; 'Melody' tried to catch some of the real tears and hurt, and so perhaps being lachrymose is right for that instance, but not outside it. I liked Last Exhibit better, also. I am glad it warms on a chill day; the actual event was on a cool and rainy day, too. Thank you for responding to these!

So Warren has proven his worth! And now the shifters can walk somewhat more invisibly to the Reznicks of the world. But now there is a further need for some way to detect Reznicks. And a way to hunt them down, or render them harmless. Great chapter, Gary...more please! -

A little confidence from Zac, some jealousy and hurt delivered from Adrian, and now the newspaper guy, Austin. Zac could make a friend, for certain, maybe something more. But he still hasn't sorted out his feelings for Adrian, despite the sounds of slamming doors. I feel for Adrian. He has pressures and a family to live with that Zac really can't fathom. If he has to survive by his wits for the months remaining at home, then perhaps that is the best alternative...for Adrian. But for Zac? Not sure.

Whew! More excitement in Daleville! Don't the far right people have anything better to do than get into shoving matches with their opponents? How very silly of them, and how clever of Don and the rest to ambush them. Hope the harpies don't get wind of who orchestrated their downfall; it could get nastier than nasty again.
