Thank you for this excellent chapter. Poor Kip is in an increasingly untenable position. Jon must know something, but what does the other man know? Yet it is clear that Jon is about to make Kip as miserable as possible. And And why is Jon still employed by AJ? Is there a clause in his contract that lets him do so? On the other hand, the moments of happiness Kip experienced were priceless. Very beautifully done - like a rose, perhaps.

An excellent poem. You state the case so well. One small word can change so much. But so can another change it back again. Beautiful, and true.

I wondered, and still do, if atonement is possible for the predator, and by extension, for anyone. But that was the point of writing this story, in part, buT. I am glad you see a spark of humanity glowing somewhere in the darkness here. For perhaps the predator can experience that once again, as he must have once upon a time, before he chose to snuff that fire out. Many thanks for your generous and supportive words.

This is a wonderful chapter. The track team and the mall - both terrific scenes, convincingly written. What happens to Billy and Lonnie - and to the rest of the family - may be difficult to bear, but will be good, I think, at least if this chapter is anything to go by. You are writing a splendid tale. Thank you.

Of course I like this chapter. How can I not? You give me an Everglades tour, a concert, and the stories - and promises - of love. If I see he's not my boyfriend one more time, I will surely laugh loudly enough to embarrass myself. Beautifully done! -
Oh, hell. More leftovers from the Church of the Criminally Insane? But I think Chuck answered his own question about what he might do. Nice hearing Chuck diplomatically try to answer all Sarah's questions. I feel badly that Chuck and Don are resolved upon breaking up - but there is a kind of autumnal melancholy about their inevitable parting which you convey so well. Beautifully done.

Yup, you have it right. The predator is in his predicament precisely because it is his fault, his choices. He tried to set up Ted and got the tables turned on him. If he'd changed, that wouldn't have happened. As Def suggested, I think it is what he chooses to do next that matters. Thanks so much for reading this story, and for your excellent comments. Def, I really appreciate this review. Predator was so dreadful, I found it hard to even continue writing. He has been destroyed, but you are so right that his specious reasoning of blaming his parents cannot stand. It is what he does next that matters. Glad you are looking forward to another chapter!

In a way, I am glad that you have conflict - I do, too. How far does one have to go before one becomes irredeemable? I know it is hard to read, and it was hard to write, too. Thank you for your response, and for reading.

What will survive once we’ve destroyed ourselves? That line just took my breath away, for it speaks to the everyday bits of destruction for which we are all responsible. Poem number two made me tremble - to be in the presence of a such a kind and forgiving heart as yours. Will the heart in #2 be able to forgive the destroyer - me, us - in #1? Again, I tremble. Unquestionably, Ted and our Predator have broken a bunch of laws. Neither would want to encounter the police; would either one like to encounter his conscience, too? Would either one recognize it? Whichever one does will claim that shred of humanity you speak of so eloquently. Thanks for your patience and for your response. Thanks also for reading this story!

Thanks, Gary. No. Rome was not built in a day, or even in a year or two. Survival is the first instinct, but then what? Our main character gains no kudos for his business instincts, sharp as they might be. He may not see his reversals as good things, but perhaps you have hit upon something he did not see until now - that he needs to reinvent himself as something better. Thanks for your comments, as they cut to the heart of things in this story. And thanks for reading so far into the tale.

This backstory hardly exonerates our predator. It may tell us why he may have chosen as he did, but his choices were the wrong ones. And then he made one that went terribly, terribly wrong. I hope this chapter was informative, but it could not have been much more than that. Thank you for making that plain...and for reading, of course!

No, he knows he is no hero. He knows - now - his approach to getting back at his parents was wrong. He has done very badly, and his current situation is much of his so own making. Our predator is coming to recognize this, but he is still largely at a loss of what to do. Many thanks for continuing to read and comment on this story!

A medium sized state university wasn't necessarily the worst place to be homeless in, but it still sucked. Everyone knew about the problem of being "sexiled;" that is, being temporarily without quarters while one's roommate gets laid or does the laying. But this was different. He was afraid.
