Music of the Spheres
The stars were high when I awoke,
Orion hunted, Lyra spoke,
and while the earth slept hushed and still,
King Cephas held his good queen's cloak.
Now as they pass in their quadrille,
accomp'nied by the whippoorwill,
Cassiopeia slowly turns
in time with every mournful trill.
The dance celestial, soon one learns,
continues, though the star that burns
could yet have died not long before
when dinosaurs stomped through the ferns.
Now light through space is faster, more
tha
