    The Threat

Lucky Zeek. Lucky Jake. But uh, oh. Phone calls in the night?
  2. Devoured every story. Am now full...of ideas, of great images, neat turns of phrase, awesome plot twists. Thank you all.
  3. I felt a wonderful warm glow as I continued through this story. It grew from the moment Bryce pulled over, and Kevin was on his way. You finished this perfectly. How accurately and definitively you described the pain. How difficult it is for some of us to accept help from people who love us! And then to have Bryce decide to act on that love was purely lovely. Thanks.

    Chapter 1

Tears of joy, and thanks for a wonderful story. Having followed your other clockwise stories, this one was a kick in the gut, and then a hard, hard read into the light. What a wonderful story. Thank you for this.

    Escape

Heart beating wildly. Palms sweating. Scrolling quickly, madly. Relief. Anguish. If that's what you wanted me to feel, you succeeded brilliantly. My hat is off to you, and my cloak is laid at your feet. Kudos.
  6. This is a great story. You are very, very good at getting me to feel what Luke experiences as he leaves school, rides his bike, and moves through his world. The kick in the gut he feels when Adam tells him he's ending the friendship comes through palpably. There is hope for Luke - perhaps he'll avoid being a lonely Math teacher. Thanks for writing this story; I look forward to more from your talented imagination.

    Chapter 1

This is the kind of story that makes me very happy to be here, happy to be reading. It makes me want to be as good a person as Colt and Shane have been for all the other Ryans still out there. Thank you for this lovely chapter.

    For Andy

Thank you for your very kind words, Def. I can't say why this insisted on being written, but there it was on the scrap paper before I knew it. Again, thanks.
  9. A very good chapter, full of information that we will undoubtedly use later. I'd love toe spend more time with Twoey, but perhaps that would exhaust him. David's visit with doctor K went well. More to come though. Thank you!

    Eric

Thank you for your comments and for reading! As it happens, the kinds of work/study programs some high schoolers work don't involve pay, but rather training and school credit. The paperwork was probably related to the school. There are some things we just don't know, because Stefan/Eric doesn't know them - but of course, you're aware of that. I couldn't seem to get the father's death into the narrative very well, so, we don't know what happened. They called off school that day, so Stefan/Eric appeared in the place of some other kid. Guess they'll have to Dort that out when school reopens. I really do appreciate your reading this story and your thoughts. Thank you so much.

    For Andy

Thank you for your kind comments. This jumped out at me today, must have been lurking in the subconscious for a while...

    For Andy

Thank you, Gary. Coming from someone as accomplished as yourself, your encouragement means a great deal. Somehow, this one just emerged. Didn't expect it at all. Again, thank you.

    Outings

Nice chapter. Thanks for the scene in which they can't help staying in the car. Too good. Yes, it sounds like someone's in the bushes, but really, these guys can handle it, can't they?

    Bright Skies

Jake loves Zeek. Zeek loves Jake. Seems really perfect. I sure hope the parents love the boys being together as much. Thanks for this chapter.

    For Andy

Thank you, Tim. And you're right. All we have to do is open the door. It might be a mess, but the guest will be worth it.

    Protector

So now Zeek and Jake will have common schedules? More importantly, perhaps Rick will get a smackdown. He seems to need one. If I were Zeek's parents, I'd hire a very, very good lawyer. Just saying. Thanks for this chapter.

    For Andy

Thanks, Val. Somehow, it just spoke to the fear I sense in that character. Funny how fictional characters just get to you.
  18. There is a danger inviting an unknown guest to your heart's abode. You risk inspection, and guarded spaces, once closed, open to his gaze, yield up their secrets. Dusty, long forgotten toys, embarrassed by day, write love's histories. One welcomed stranger can spill a lifetime of pain across a wide floor. No frenzied gathering will ever return it.

    History

I enjoyed this chapter. Will read more, be sure of it. These characters are engaging and you speak their voices well.
  20. This is a fantastic story. Love all the interplay between James and Faris. Everyone should be so lucky as to be stuck and vulnerable for his lover like that at least once. And the labradoodle pups are a great finish! Thank you for a light touch on the day.
  21. Thank you for your kind words. Andy is very wary, and likely to guard his secrets. Though Andy hasn't thought it all through, he's hot to know that everything could go badly wrong if he slips up at all. The phone issue may turn out to be trouble. The assistant principal was remiss in that he really ought to have taken Andy to the police station for emergency shelter; a place Andy resolutely would have refused to enter. Thank you for reading and giving me your thoughts. The next chapter is a great big double-length chapter, so you will have to pace yourself!
  22. You were really nice to write what you said. And yes, if it was addictive for you to read, think of the poor author who hated to type the final period. It was very hard to put aside, and still is for me. Andy is still a very cautious, very wary kid, here. Plenty can happen, and plenty can still go very, very, badly for him, and he knows it. But for now, there's a warm bed and a family that has taken him in as a houseguest. That's good enough to sleep on. Next chapter is a big double-length chapter, so you will have to pace yourself somehow!
  23. Thank you for this review, Def. Andy is still a very wary boy inside, but maybe this experience will get him to trust some more. We just don't know what happened with Andy's father; that was more than could be fit into the text. The phone call could be problematical, but only if Zander's dad thinks he needs to call. This could happen, and then the unraveling could begin - but only if...for now, Andy sleeps in an actual bed in the same house as Zander. If he weren't so tired, the thought would keep him awake all night. Many thanks again!
  24. What an interesting way to wake up. Poor Andy is completely disoriented for a moment, and the discombobulation continued for the rest of the day. Poor kid didn't know what hit him. Zander is probably a bit of a wreck himself. Happy, but a wreck, I expect. The next chapter is a big, double-size chapter, so make it last the whole weekend. Thanks so much for continuing to read, and especially for your review. I'm glad you woke up to it!
  25. Well, I'm sorry for being so transparent, , but I'm happy you got most of your wishes. All of the issues you raise exist. The biggest problem may be the tug-of-war you mention. Andy's resourceful and very, very wary of exposure. Hope you like chapter 38 - it's a big double-length chapter. Thanks for your review and for reading so far, even if it was so predictable!
