  1. Eric faced a combination of being tired of running, and the pull of the familiar routine, as you put it. He's clearly wrestling with going to school. Possibly the clincher in his mind might be the invisibility issue - the person doing the expected thing is the most camouflaged.
  2. Right now, Andy is being very watchful. Despite his resiliency, he's still pretty hurt from having to flee the farm. He felt safe there, too, and look what happened. For Andy, the problem is that he hasn't ever felt safe for the past decade. Mrs. Marjorie and Eustace Whitley were safe people; Toby was a question mark. You may be right (no spoilers) about Terry P becoming a safe person, but that's gotta be a long way off, in Andy's eyes.
  3. Tumbles qualifies as good news. Thanks for the post, Graeme.
  4. Chapter Twenty Eight September 4 I forgot about the long weekend. There there’s no school tomorrow. Monday is Labor Day. Yesterday and today, the school was as silent as a tomb. I don’t expect tomorrow will be any different. At least for the past two days, living was easier, in a weird way. I got up way early Saturday and got out of the school library simply by turning the twist lock on the door. Done. I found three exits from this maze of a school that didn’t look like they got much use,

    Chapter 14

Oh, how lovely. The kiss, wonderfully described. You nailed that. Thank you for leaving it there; it lets the reader imagine more. And Andrew believes, which is better still. Great writing, and a grand story going here. Will be looking for more....please?
  7. Am I first again? Wonderful. Loved this chapter, seeing Micah and Finn go at it. The museum scenes were fun, and enjoyed Max as the adoring student. great chapter. Thanks a million.
  8. Thank you for your review! Andy needs to be safe in one place long enough for the walls to come down a little. His trust in the world is very low, so any interaction and contact is good. We'll have to wait and see what happens - no spoilers here - but I agree that Andy is just plain tired of running. But he's not sure the rest of the world is going to let him stop. It's a big secret he's got to keep.
  9. Wow. How wonderful to see their connection rekindled. Perhaps the spark can be allowed to burn a little longer this time? How wonderful to see Casey becoming the person he so richly deserves to be.

    Slither

So we can breathe now. What a relief that Jim and Carol appear to be interesting, kind and caring people. And that you can convey that in such a short space is a testament to how well you have written this. Great chapter. Thank you!

    Up In Flames

Up in flames is a perfect name for this chapter. So much of the good things starting in Casey's life just disintegrated. Now he goes to CPS; uncertain as to how that will work out. Let's hope it goes well.
  12. This story is turning out beautifully. The connection between Casey and James is growing, and it's fun to read about. Your descriptions of archery are quite good. Wonder why Casey's sister hasn't found a way to institute a search for missing dad - suppose Casey will have to do that soon.
  13. Oh, Casey. And why can his mother not bear the sight of him? How awful that he has to live with an abusive father and not be able to have a parent at all. At least his sister will talk to him. Perhaps she can send some money, or arrange something? At least she could call the local police to search for the man and to connect Casey to some kind of support.
  14. I know I am late to this story. Sorry about that. I'm hooked. I ilke James and Casey already. James is an especially engaging character, and he's certainly done that with Casey. Thank you for this story.
  15. Lots of superlatives here, SD. Plenty of directions for the plot to go, and intriguing hints of David's future thinking. Finally, more Twoey, too. Afraid a little of what Matty might do to David - scare the crap out of him, possibly. Great move to date with Lanni. But the mysterious omniscient Sam is beginning to bother me......

    Chapter 13

I watched you a lot. Boy, doesn't that say volumes? Wonder if Clyde will be stupid and seek revenge, or if he's learned his lesson? Hope the whole thing with Andrew works out...
  17. Thank you so much for sticking with this story. I really appreciate hearing from you. It is a tough story to read, but it was also tough to write. Stefan/Eric is in a very tough bind, and just because rural and suburban runaways seem to go unnoticed more often doesn't mean the pain and hunger are easier to take. Again, my thanks and hope you enjoy A to Z.
  18. Thank you for sticking with the story so far. Andy/Eric just got tired of running, maybe. His m.o. has been all caution, motivated by perfectly justifiable fear, I think. He didn't dare let Eustace in, and it remains to be seen if anyone else can be trusted. But his observations of his new school are very hopeful, at least as long as the office remains bureaucratically inefficient, or overworked. The main thing will be for him to remain invisible, unnoticed and well blended in. That will take lots of ingenuity on his part. Many thanks for your review and your support.
  19. Thank you for staying up late to read on. Whatever happens, it's likely that Andy/Eric will take things slowly, slowly. He's nothing if not cautious, fearful and has an acute sense of things that can go wrong. Murphy's law applies to him, I think. Thanks again!
  20. And then, there's this. I'm very fond of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meCZ5hWNRFU
  21. Adapting to the path he's chosen is going to test Andy's ingenuity. For one thing, he still needs a place to winter over. For another, your insight into storage means he'll actually have to use the school lockers, something he might shy away from. More than anything else, though, Andy needs to blend in quickly before he stands out too much as the strange new kid. Thanks so much for reviewing this chapter!
  22. Thank you for staying with the story so far. Stefan - now Andy - may have landed in a place that appears to be safe. Hard to say, as appearances have been deceiving before. As important is that he is tired of running. Many thanks for your review.
  23. Whew. What an adventure! I hope you know I played hooky to read this. Worth every moment. Thank you!
  24. Oh, jeez. Didn't even see the Mrs. Landon thing coming. It's funny how the subconscious can urge you to do something - in this case, go to school. This will not be an easy thing to do, but it's good he had a safe pace for at least one night. And with all those books!
  25. August means running every morning. And I do mean every morning. My best friend runs, and he insists I run with him. Since getting back from swim camp, each day starts the same way. Get up early. Run to the park or the school to meet up with one or two running buddies. My best friend often gets there before me. He's been the one person to stick with me through this long, miserable summer. Jog to work. Take the morning and early afternoon shift at the pool. Home, do chores. Shower. Fantasize
