    Him

Okay - here's the hook and bait. The reader is now watching as intently as Matt. Good work.

    My Situation

    Thanks for the background.
  3. This is a great first chapter. Thanks for writing this.

    Houghton

Small towns are interesting places, if you get to stay and look, taste or feel. I hoped that at least some of the character of Houghton came through in this. As always, thanks very much for reviewing and reading.

    Houghton

Thank you for this review. I'm glad the story is getting to you; the character Eric/Stefan really got under my skin over the time it took me to write the story.

    Houghton

June 3 It’s been a week, and I’m a wreck. A hungry, stinking, dirty wreck. At least some of my cuts and bruises are healing. My limp is better. I have no idea how far I have walked so far, but I know I am a long, long way from home. Question for tonight: what if I had just stayed there – stayed home, stayed in the principal’s office, stayed in Carlsberg? Would it have been that bad? Is it worth looking over my shoulder every few minutes to see if anyone is watching? To see if there is a p
  7. Right. So now I am officially sad and teary for Robbie. This is an excellent chapter for getting towards the heart of his heartache. Mrs. Oakey was an interesting woman. That she turned a blind eye to Tom and Robbie's relationship was even more so. How much trouble could she have gotten into, I wonder? Thanks for this; will look forward to more.
  8. Thank you for a delightful chapter. Seeing NYC for the first time through someone else's eyes made me smile. I wonder about Patrick. It cannot be easy for him, going to school and being on a team that appears so very unforgiving. Or is there something else at work? Agree with dughlas that being on the receiving end of catcalls from one's peers can be especially hurtful and destructive. This I have seen, and it isn't pretty.
  9. Somebody to Love. That will take over your brain. It has mine.

    Tanka? Hmmm

Tim, the Tanka is lovely. While the regimentation of form is constrictive, great beauty comes out of this. The poem for your mother could make a stone weep. Believe your friends here when they tell you how talented you are. That these poems can take a lot of work doesn't subtract the tiniest decimal from that. Your vision of your mother was perfectly, succinctly, elegantly stated. Thank you for the gift of your poetry.

Yes, the second speaker is a little odd, but hang in there. I beg you. In the meantime, Stefan/Eric is going to get some real sleep.

It's almost as if Stefan is a survivor of a some sort of explosion. In some way, it's a good metaphor. He's wandered out of the wreckage, kind of stunned. Now he has to figure out what to do or where to go.

    Chapter 9

This is a great chapter. An emerging dynamic between two men who want to love one another. You describe it beautifully without being prosy. And the stinger on the end about not being anyone's secret - the reader just wants to jump up and down and yell at Reece to get out there and make it public, official and hell, call the newspapers. Just saying.

Thanks for the review, and for sticking with Stefan/Eric. It's good the church had something in the fridge for him. Interesting, but more than could be portrayed, would have been the reaction of the United Brethren pastor and congregation. Would they be in an uproar at an intruder, or would they celebrate that the kingdom of God came near in a nameless someone who needed their help? Couldn't have Stefan/Eric ask that questions, so I'll put it out there. Tim and SD both had interesting comments on the Forum, too.
  15. Me, too. Sometimes, it may be simply a case of an author forgetting or neglecting to change a story's status to 'complete,' while in others, the story is cut off before it really started, but while the reader's interest is piqued. But whatever happened to Dust and Ash? Just an example....

Let's hope he escaped without something that only leaves scars, and nothing more. For now, he's out of the rain, and that's something.

    Eric

Unquestionably, he would have been found out. Stefan/Eric can't really hang around waiting for someone to put the pieces together and identify him...
  18. Oh, my, again. No, won't string up the author. Or judge Sim, or Daniel, or anyone. But I will continue to wonder if the four of them will manage to hold their lives together, and heal one another's hearts and hurts when they happen. Wonderfully written, and engaging, as always. And hot. Did I mention hot? Thanks for this story, Tim.

Our lifeguard spoke to us at the very beginning of Chapter 1. The church is a lonely country church, so Stefan/Eric may not be bothered much while the rain comes down.

And it seems that the rules for rural invisibility may differ slightly from what you find in the city. Stephan/Eric got lucky, and you're very right about the rules. He just doesn't understand what the rules might be in this broad new world he's in.

  22. Oh, boy. If Kathy got that controlling, no wonder Cal departed in a veil of sleaze. Maybe David can convince Cal to push him out of the picture. That Twoey should be feeling a twinge of jealousy at Matty's hands-on approach to David is priceless, and should lead Twoey to some more soul searching. Still interested in knowing what David will get out of - or feel about - his encounter with a psych. This is a grand run-up to a very dicey time for everyone. Well written, thoughtfully approached. Thank you. More soon, please?

Thank you for this. The story pretty much wrote itself; the characters and their lives just about jumped off the page. I felt at the time I had very little to do with it.

On Memorial Day, the Town Pool opens. This is where a bunch of us work over the summer, lifeguarding and giving swim lessons. It’s possible to sit in the lifeguard chair and pretend to watch what’s happening through your sunglasses, while your mind is miles away. It was at the pool that the doubts first bubbled up the summer before. Unwelcome, insistent doubts. The boys were there. Other guys watched the girls. My attention focused on the boys. It should have been on the girls. But no.
  25. Welcome. You'll find everyone to be supportive and civil. At least, I have. Enjoy!
