  1. It seems Trent has inadvertently discovered something about himself as a result of the revenge he took on Jayden & Corey. There could well be scope for 'more'. :-)
  2. ‘And then I hid it somewhere he won’t find it.’ Yeah, I can just imagine my shit faced little brother Jayden whispering that to his little boyfriend Corey as they lay cuddled up together in or on his bed. I’d like to go in that room and beat the crap out of the pair of them until they tell me where it is he’s hidden it, but I suspect the noise they’d make while I was doing it would bring Mom running up to protect them. What really annoys me is that I didn’t realize it was missing at first. I’d b
  3. As Wesley has already said, another great chapter. Particularly liked the way you developed the relationship between Benny & Finn. That is how brothers should get on together.
  4. I can see why it was a 'toughie' HB. There's a whole barrel load of emotions in this story, but you've handled them excellently.

Thanks Okiegrad! "Brought back happy memories"? Does that mean you had a British schooling or was it the outside school activities that resonated? Whichever, I'm glad you enjoyed the story.

    Chapter 1

Appreciate the review Geron. A look at British society as it was back then and perhaps such things did happen. I'll have to add a follow up to my list of possibilities. Ivor.

    Chapter 1

You're getting good CG! Those explanations of terms are pretty much spot on. Back then for the 'normal' kid the type of school attended split at age 11 with those who were clever enough going to Grammar schools and the rest going to Secondary Modern schools where the education was more on practical skills. That changed with the introduction of Comprehensive Schools thus stopping the separation at 11. Public schools were basically private schools although some did offer a number of scholarships for the less wealthy. And then there were/are also private schools which were of less repute than the public schools but were entirely for fee paying pupils. As for the story, yes an unlikely meeting of two kids from different backgrounds who discovered they had one very important thing in common. Ivor.

Glad you liked and appreciate you saying so. I'll have to give some more thought to a continuation. Ivor.

    Chapter 1

My First Job I guess I often asked myself in later years how it came to happen. As is so often the case, such questions are virtually impossible to answer, as one can attribute the cause to any number of things. Undoubtedly, though, it wouldn't have happened had I not been given a bicycle for my 14th birthday. Even then – was the cause my birthday or the actual present? Who knows and does it really matter? What did matter and came about as a consequence is, I reckon, worth relating. You see,

  11. I'm so glad David plucked up the nerve to come back and talk to Maurice. Hopefully they can at least partly fill the hole that death of their partner has left in each other's heart. Tenderly written and much appreciated by this reader.

Gee - this place seems to be populated with Oliver (and Olivia) Twists! Mr Bumble will have to see what can be arranged :-) Thanks CG
  13. Like the story. A nice mixture of pleasure and worry in the anticipation. Must confess that towards the end I started anticipating myself - for a twist that didn't come.......

    Chapter 1

As I said to Gary those are experiences I didn't enjoy (or suffer?) so just imagination at work. Wonder if that can conjure up a sequel???

    Chapter 1

Pleased you enjoyed Gary. I missed out on brothers, but can imagine a younger one could easily be a pain in the ass on occasions.

    Chapter 1

Thanks, Lisa! Isn't there an old saying about always leaving the audience wanting more? Trouble is at this point I don't have any really good ideas :-)
  17. “And then I hid it somewhere he won’t find it.” “What? You must be joking Jayden! Man, where did you hide it?” “I’m not gonna tell you, Corey – just in case he starts beating on you about it.” “Jeeze Jayden, I know we’ve pulled some stunts in our time but this could be one of the greatest ever – if we live to tell anyone!” I knew Corey desperately wanted to know where I’d hidden it, but I just didn’t want to tell him. We might have been best friends since forever, but sometimes it is better

    Chapter 1

Found out again! Looks like I need to find myself an American beta reader :-) Once I got the idea for the story I had to set it in the US simply because the UK weather is so rarely good enough to want to go outside and sleep on a blanket on the ground! You have a point about the secrecy but in those circumstances I wonder what percentage would have believed the true story? Anyway, glad you enjoyed and thanks for the review Lisa. Ivor.

    Chapter 1

Thanks Geron. I agree with you about facts in comparison to assumptions, but then there are 'alternative facts' that one seemingly also needs to consider....... Sometimes these odd words will come together and spark something that the muse would not otherwise have discovered.

    Chapter 1

You make a very good point Jeffrey about the need to talk in a relationship. I suppose it was rather sad, but it did seem that they were going to get back together at the end. Appreciate the review.

    Chapter 1

It was a motley collection of words, but immediately I saw them the germ of an idea came to mind that seems to have worked. I'm glad that you enjoyed reading it and appreciate the positive comment.

Thanks CG - very flattering. So much so it's almost worth a bottle of lemon squash :-)

    Chapter 1

Our Tune I’d got into the habit pretty soon after he left. I know living in New York there were plenty of other options for how to spend the evening after work. I could have gone to the movies or the theatre but those would still have meant sitting in the dark on my own –without him. I could have gone to a restaurant I suppose – but a table for one? That’s a real loser situation, sitting on your own and reading a book in a restaurant! So instead I’d started going to bars. I spread my custom
