My school motto was also in Latin: “Olim meminisse juvabit”. (Rough translation, one day you will remember and rejoice) So true, looking back at a wonderful state school with no bullying, great success at getting us into top universities, etc. It is hopefully true of past good relationships and perfect for Granger thinking of Travers.

  4. I would have loved to have travelled to Canada when younger but the cold 🥶 Here balcony bulbs are out, our baby plum tree is covered in flowers (I thought it had died), and it reached 25°C/ mid 70s today. After the deluge of rain in Galicia it’s nice to be home…. Until temperatures reach 30°C+ in a couple of months. Then rain would be v welcome.

What a treat to come home to! And Calatayud? Scorching hot nothingness in the middle of nowhere in the summer months, and a tad cold in winter. I almost feel sorry for her ladyship…. fun but also disturbing chp. What a mess Cardona has made.

A great feel good chp but also showing Travis as he matures. V enjoyable, indeed. Thank you, Mark. ps On a slightly different route from El Ferrol to Madrid than Granger in another tale. The A6 motorway supposedly didn’t exist back then, however the road surface seemed to be 18th century as we bounced around the potholes…
  9. Does Jeremy travel overseas to redo apartments? Mine needs a makeover!
  10. You want yoyo, @Kitt? Today a glorious 23°C (low 70s F) in Galicia, photos in my Instagram; tomorrow we go 300 m south with max 8°C (too cold to think in °F!) at 4,000ft on plateau N of Madrid, then 250 miles east to the balmy Mediterranean. Me thinks the dogs will be confused. I have my Irish sweater ready for tomorrow!
  11. Solid recommendation from me, too. My only complaint is that my glowing comment from yesterday didn’t get uploaded!

    Chapter 6

One of mine, too but the tree spirit story moved me to grieve for the non- human world around us. In @Mikiesboy we have one of the current stars of GA. Love you both 😚
  13. There might be a voodoo doll marked for Sydney……… 😂
  14. Thank you. I think I get it now!!
  15. I’m still confused re grandfather’s axe! But I’m pretty tired after a journey to the ‘Coast of Death’ today! (look up Muxía) And as for mentioning the Floral Dance, I will be getting my voodoo dolls out if I hear it in my head tonight.
  16. This is a great recommendation, @Cia. it is an exquisite tale of humanity’s need to respect our world, told through the story of an uprooted tree. It is a jewel.
  17. qn 1: it depends of the level of the title but as a minimum they become ‘the honorable’ for boy up until sons of marquesses when they become ‘’Lord Gary Lysaght” , for example; for girls. They get ‘Lady Melania” from an earlier stage. All except the male heir who gets an honorary subsidiary title, if there is one. qn 2 NO. ( nor does the gay husband of a titled person even though married qn 3 in the hands of our esteemed author! Except for legal proceedings in the uk. Aussie rules are for the Aussies 😜
  18. Another really fun chp. Love how this is going!
  19. 25k words of utter delight. Raunchy, funny, surprisingly tender and a dream ending. A perfect short story. Well done!

With nuclear warheads, as well? Watching the (totally unbiased) news last night here in Spain I learned that France is the only nuclear power in Europe. Apart from little, old GB, there is the small matter of Russia….

    Chapter 4

Wow! My stay in a Philippe S hotel in Miami Beach wasn’t as exciting! Sterile, white room, with a shower that flooded the whole bathroom every day. But oh, the green apple made all the difference! a really fun story with human pain towards the end. Sad it finishes tomorrow. thank you!

If only it still were. Nelson and Granger must be turning in their graves. And poor Earl St Vicent, if he knew dockyard workers only did a 9-5 working day ……

My occasional visits to the aptly named ‘Why Not’ club in the early eighties in Paris had rather better results ☺️ and a wonderful phrase: Je n’aime pas le Back Room…..
  24. And first sunny day in a week!

Greetings from a very rainy Galicia and El Ferrol! By car on pretty good motorways it is a long day’s drive from Madrid to The North west. My back was killing me but going by carriage, my goodness. An excellent, evocative chp. Thank you mark. @drpaladin tells us there are fourteen months of peace, I fear for @PrivateTim‘s mental state when we calculate how many chps till Granger is back on the deck of a frigate!
