  1. I had woken up late on Friday. It was past noon, but I still felt exhausted and somehow tainted by the night’s experiences. In the bathroom I could see bruising appearing on the side of my face where that officer had bashed me. I shaved and showered and decided I needed a nice, peaceful day. Of course, that wasn’t going to be possible. I glanced at the calendar on the kitchen wall, and it dawned on me that tomorrow would be the 5th, when most families celebrated the arrival of the Three Kings an
  2. I loath weddings but I wouldn’t have minded being an observer at this one! 🥵
  3. 40,000 words of excellence. The storyline is really good, the language flawless, and our two heroes and their supporting characters are very well rounded and realistic. Strongly recommended, and kudos to the author ✍️

  4. A great story. I thoroughly enjoyed it, thank you 🙏
  5. An excellent chp. The characters get more and more depth to them. It’s a v good story.
  6. An utterly delightful chp which recalled the memory of being in that park and taking a boat with my grandparents, a v long time ago but nice to remember.
  7. Next morning I had to drag myself out of bed; if I had slept it wasn’t a refreshing sleep, rather an interlude between hours of tossing and turning. When I wasn’t thinking of what had happened with my mother, I was worrying about how Gerardo would be coping with his boss’s new project, whatever that was. Deciding that I was going to ignore my mother and her issues at this stage, or at least until I had heard from my father, and that I would have to wait for Gerardo’s next call for his news,
  8. So far so good! Cooked ‘arroz al horno’ on Sunday. A rice dish baked in the oven with different pork cuts and black pudding, topped with potatoes and tomato. Quite filling! Rice and potatoes together sounds awful, I know, but it’s the ultimate comfort food. only 30 pages of instructions left to read 😱

    Chapter 8

Miele is the reason behind German dominance, along with Siemens. We changed our washing machine after 20+ yrs, dishwasher still going strong after 23 yrs. Why can’t other countries is Europe get the message? Especially Spain and UK

I never heard this term in my decades of schooling and university…. Now, ‘joined up writing’ is another thing!

    The Lee Shore

Fascinating chp. Sadly, the coastal region of La Manga is now a concrete mess. The regional government invested heavily in construction. One mayor drove around in a Rolls Royce, a ‘gift’ from a construction company….. great chp, of course, and forgive my memories…..
  15. 36° - Im melting 🫠 Am in such a good mood. An author whom I respect a lot has posted really positive feedback on my latest tale. I tell you, Canadians are THE BEST ❤️
  16. I just hope the drunken idiots behave themselves. Interestingly, in rugby there is no separating the rival fans. People chat and laugh with other nationals. I went once to England v USA and the banter was fantastic. just started anthology piece; the creative juices seem to be flowing in a v sad direction…
  17. Thanks. It will get a bit darker, now. There are 10 chps, all written, something @Thirdly taught me!
  18. Thank you so much, Topher! My partner grew up under Franco and was a bit of a rebel - throwing red paint over the statue of Franco in his village, etc. etc. His mother came to Valencia to help her sister whose husband was in the local monastery- basically an extermination camp - and stayed after he was executed. All war is awful, but civil war…. Warm regards
  19. I am not disappointed with your reaction! 😆
  20. I staggered out of bed the next day and headed for the bathroom. I needed the shower of a lifetime in order to wake up properly and to face the horrors ahead. I had slept on and off, tossing and turning as my mind reflected on the stresses of the previous day, which would be nothing, I knew, compared to the nightmare luncheon with my parents… and their guests. It was clear that my mother was deeply suspicious, of what exactly, it wasn’t yet totally clear. She had observed Gerardo’s enthusia
  21. Am just about to upload the next chp, title is "High Noon"... you can get the gist, I'm sure!
  22. If you think she was bad today….. tomorrow she shows her other side, which is worse!
  23. It was Monday and after the stress of the day before I was keen for a taste of normality. Gerardo and I had returned to the apartment the afternoon before and spent our time in and out of bed before, sadly, he had to go back to the cuartel. I had slept well and decided to make good use of the day. First up was to ring Marcelo. He was bored and keen to escape from his parents’ place for a while. We met up at the top of Las Ramblas and headed downhill past the Liceu opera house with its post
