    Prologue

My family live in nearby Redditch and I fear the last train would be v similar. I’m old enough to remember the glue sniffing habits of years ago with kids off their heads on trains. It was pretty unpleasant, although the passing fumes were enjoyable!!
  2. Apropos of nothing, we drove past a place called Talleres MYR (MYR workshops) this pm in A Coruña, NW Spain. I nearly crashed the car!! @Myr is everywhere!

    Prologue

Not my usual genre but as it’s by Topher and I’m guaranteed excellent writing, here I am! Seriously, a great start and a reminder of the awfulness of uk trains at night.
  4. BTW, Robert, congratulations on your ever-increasing popularity as revealed in Myr’s latest statistics. Mere neophytes like I bow in your presence!
  5. This phrase sums up so much about why I so enjoy @Robert Hugill’s stories: We had each drawn pleasure from exploring the other’s art.
  6. Hi, his series about uni students in London as AIDS hit in the 80’s was brilliant, I thought, especially as I was a student there at the same time but luckily as it happened I was too closeted to try anything and so escaped unlike many friends. 😢
  7. And Queer as Folk!
  8. I saw the ‘title’ ref and was intrigued as to how he could inherit given Bertrand and Dorothy weren’t married… Quick research shows that it’s not a problem. WOW. And yet a “legitimate” daughter still cannot inherit eg Duke of Rutland has three daughters, no sons, and the title, castle etc will go to a cousin…. Crazy Another interesting chp that made me homesick. Thank you 🙏

    El Ferrol

Interestingly, Elaine Paige didn’t sing on the soundtrack album, which was released first to get interest going, but she got the lead in the show. Julie Covington was much better.
  10. Seven continuous days of rain for our trip to Galicia . Tomorrow sixhour journey to Ávila, home of the first female doctor of the Catholic Church. (Doctrine not medicine!). An amazing woman in a man’s world. Then on Friday six more to edges of the Bay of Biscay which fans of Mark Arbour’s Bridgemont novels will know well! Dogs will have a garden of over 1,000 sq metres to play in… in the rain 😭
  11. Slowly preparing for our escape from Las Fallas noise on Thursday. Overnight in Ávila and then another long drive to NW Spain. All this for Greta’s sake. We had to go away last year as well. She is traumatized by the noise of the bands, firecrackers at all hours etc etc. Lilibeth is totally uninterested and unaffected by her sister running hysterically around the apartment. Weird, no? have a good week everyone xxxx

    El Ferrol

No I haven’t seen it but the staging looking v impressive. Last musical I saw was Evita with original cast nearly 50 yrs ago!
  13. V interesting developments. And a v good story. A couple of points: is Christian the head of a firm of solicitors, or even a full partner? He seems v young for the reputation he has, which normally take a good few years to acquire. For the innocent amongst your readers, an established top London solicitor would charge, as a minimum, £1,000 an hour plus VAT, plus their slaves’ hours as well. My best friend, who retired as a leading employment lawyer, is now enjoying life to the full on the profits. (ps, I’m pretty sure London taxis have flip down backward-facing seats to avoid being uncomfortably close on the back seat 😁) looking forward to more asap x

    You sound like Oliver Twist!

    El Ferrol

Yes! Good things come to those who wait and in this case I got there first! thank you Mark
  18. Greetings from a next door neighbor in Spain. Enjoy. I spent years and years as a reader and loved this site and the chance to chat with others. Now I write a bit but reading is the main reason for being here un abrazo
  19. Hi Kitt have been looking but it’s a pay for paper and I have no free sends. Sorry
  20. Interesting article from newspaper lawyer in England (Scotland has totally separate legal system) responding to a reader’s question: are you legally liable if you clear snow from pavement or if you help an elderly neighbor on their path? Thankfully, the answer was that courts would probably support you….
  21. A really enjoyable interview. Thank you for sharing so much of your family’s fascinating history. Gary

Good job Will was using his Amex card in USA. In Spain it wouldn’t be accepted, nor Diners card if it still exists, in 90% of places. I imagine for the % cut they want. Here it’s Mastercard all the way! I love the way @PrivateTim is on hand to check all SoCal details…. And I’m off on holiday v near to El Ferrol next week to check on the Granger story details 😂 😂 😂 ps and before I’m accused of being a Granger stalker, I booked the place before I saw the name in a recent chapter…. PPS Thank you Mark for all the joy you bring with your stories. gary
  23. Sorry to hear some of you are a tad chilly in western hemisphere- here in Valencia, thanks to the amazing almost divine intervention of the greatest supreme leader of the galaxy, with no climate change, it is a cool February day. Oh, sorry, it’s actually 30°c, mid 80s F, on our balcony. 😱
