  1. Have you seen Tom Daley the uk diver who took up knitting as a way to chill during competitions and is now doing well as a second career? Tomorrow our dearest friend with stage 4 pancreatic cancer is cooking lunch for a load of friends for the feast day of The Three Kings as they call it here, Epiphany elsewhere. She is truly my inspiration. gx meanwhile, I’m busy on volume 2 of my story about love in Franco’s Spain, it’s taking over my life!

I cn remember entering a v hip club in London many years ago and realizing that a designer-label tee didn’t cut any ice there! I left on my ownsome…. 😢
  4. How true. And here in Europe almost total silence about recent events. You can tell I’m a history major, perhaps…..

Nice start, and welcome to GA as an author. gary
  6. For me, I woke up quite early after a troubled night. Dreaming that Goya had painted a portrait of me was a bit freaky, to say the least. Of course, waking up didn’t necessarily mean getting up, but today was going to be different, I thought. Whilst in the bathroom I could hear the phone ring. Gerardo? I dashed naked across the floor to the telephone, forgetting that I had opened the blinds, I didn’t care. I began to think of how we might spend the day. “Hi,” I said breathlessly, “Ximo here
  7. Sadly, yes. Still popular in villages with young machos lads showing off. The big rings still have fans packed in during fiestas. Urge
  8. Agreed. Here it’s the modern version of the Roman’s “ read and circuses”, ie read “ extra bull fights and open air discos”. In the midst of writing part 2 I’m obsessing about Ximo’s future career. 😱😱😱and he still has to pass his first term!
  9. Very well deserved, Mark, in my humble but correct opinion 😜
  10. Ximo is fairly common diminutive here in Valencia, hence Ximo Puig, the politician. Did you mean him? I think he’s a good guy but I didn’t have him in mind.
  11. As I woke up and slowly realised what day it was, I started to groan. Hell. Double Hell, or worse. Although I wasn’t due to return to Pedralbes until the 24th, I remembered the promise that had been dragged out of me some weeks ago. My mother had indicated that her displeasure at hardly seeing me all term could be somewhat assuaged by my presence at my parents’ Christmas drinks do. I suppose that my subconscious had been hoping that the event would be cancelled in the light of Thursday’s tragedy
  12. I’ve just seen that I am number three on a list here…… but only because three people wrote on arcane punk genre, and I had it thrust upon me by @Valkyrie and @Aditus in the prompt challenge! Can’t see myself getting on a popular genre list anytime soon, though. congrats on the rating, may you have a v successful 2026, and please do share those ‘silly’ stories g
  13. Yes, there are spies and some will be revealed in the not too distant future. The next chp is in the moderation queue and expect to find out a lot more about Gerardo..... xxx

    Infidelity

A truly enjoyable chapter, but my goodness what a tangle Granger has had to deal with. Thank you v much, Mark Gary
  15. Marcelo seemed to be panicking even more than I was. He forced me to stop dragging him; people had started to look warily at us. “So that was señor Green eyes? Quite smart, if I say so myself. And what now Ximo? Are you going to transfer to Madrid to escape arrest or what?” Fear seemed to be making him sound almost aggressive. By now I just wanted to get away from talking and wasted speculation. We parted with a vague promise to meet up with other student friends at a more ‘neutral’
  16. For those of you who are still in 2025 from those of us already in 2026 - hey! Time to catch up guys!,, love to all of you in the best DIC on the web!

In N Ireland during the Troubles of the 70s (and before and after) in job interviews etc., you couldn’t ask whether the person was Catholic or Protestant but simply asking where they went to school would reveal all a bigoted employer, or work colleague, would need to know.
  19. They were v good but only one dry day in eight and we came home to storms and severe weather here in Valencia. Still, I got parts of the next volume written…. Wait for Ximo’s mother to take centre stage 😱

My thoughts entirely! Though perhaps not as painful as Zach (and Calvert)!

I think our beloved author must have had his knife collection sharpened for Xmas. As with Granger chp (for which huge thanks, Mark) we have a lovely feel good chp …. And then dr A gets out the stiletto. Wannabe authors like me stand in awe!
  22. Time will tell @drsawzall and @Summerabbacat... This first volume is completed in 11 sections and will be out twice a week, hopefully. Festive greetings from a very, very wet Pyrenees.
  23. And this is the same @Lee Wilson that said he doesn't like magic?! Seriously, a sweet story v apt.
