  1. One can dream……..
  2. Moving along v nicely, still leaving options open. I enjoy seeing the brothers coming ever closer as. Vince chills and Gray starts to be more positive about the house. A v good story.
  3. Another ace chp with Toby front of stage. A delightful story continues at a perfect pace. Thank you x
  4. A pretty neat summary of so many goodies. More reading to do, what a stress 😂
  5. And I will be there waiting… just because I can! 😜

So 10 chps of “customer satisfaction” 😜
  8. A lovely comment x
  9. The great comments of friends like @Summerabbacat, @drsawzall, @centexhairysub are a real testimony to the great storytelling of our dear author, whose plot twists are like Hampton Court maze… Greetings from Soria, central Spain, a virtually deserted province full of amazing medieval treasures. Fortunately, 001 and 002, the arch criminal min dachshunds have behaved really well. I will try to post a snap or two of some scandalous church statues worthy of Russ’s penthouse!!!
  10. But he knew Granger was heartbroken leaving Russia…. And didn’t know of affair with the Tsar, or not…….
  11. Guess what, @rdale! Yep water pump broke after lunch again. We had arrived cold and wet to find no heating on. There were words with owner: bad cop and good cop. Guess who I was!? So now water back on, heating on so much I want to open a window!,, And on Thursday, @Mark Arbour, yes, I’m off to Medinaceli to see the Granger portraits!!!!
  12. Was Epicurus an epicurean? The answer I was taught many moons ago was a very clear no as we struggled through Lucretius’ De Rerum Naturae. History has not been kind to the subtleties of his philosophy and his Stoic enemies won the reputational battle.
  13. And if we take into account his servants and their friendship with Winkler and Jacobs ……. 🧐 Waiting awhile for installments is sad but understandable given the work behind this story that Mark puts into it. As ever, your chps seem to come at the right moment to cheer me. Today was no different: we are in Soria province, in the middle of nowhere. -7°C last night with no heating and no water in our rental cottage. many thanks 😊
  14. A stunningly informative “comment”. Thank you. It was really interesting 🤨

    Birthday!

More than acceptable! As @drsawzall said, a delightful chapter. Enjoy the sun @Robert Hugill and uk residents. For fans of “My Fair Lady”, the rain in Spain is indeed staying on the plain. Exactly where I am on holiday 😱Snow tomorrow……

For fellow mega fans of Lord B, I am only an hour from the ducal palace of Medinaceli and, weather permitting, will be visiting the home of two v close friends of Granger, as he then was. @Mark Arbour should be proud of my dedication and reward me, perhaps, with a new chp in Paris. 😜 ps Gosh it’s bloody cold here in central Spain ❄️
  19. Exactly the sort of lane that my sister’s isn’t
  20. My sister lives in a road called “Blackstitch Lane”. Sadly it’s an executive housing estate’s attempt to invoke the countryside in the heart of suburbia…. rather than those traversed by our hero.
  21. Margaret Hilda Thatcher, first female PM of UK.

    Birthday plans

Congrats to @Robert Hugill, especially for the wonderfully authentic feel of the chat between the two lads, down to scuffing of the shoe. Such good writing. ”Anyroads”, wow, a word long disappeared from my northern vocabulary!!

My goodness… those trousers!! Almost R ratable. Thank you @Summerabbacat, just catching up on this great story, and, as ever, I love your comments. Hugs from a very damp Valencia…
  24. Poor you! Had two ex-colleagues for lunch Great to see them (and the wine they brought!) but so happy I don’t go back to school tomorrow leaving at 06.30. Been there, done that…. 🤗
  25. Anthony Bolton at Fidelity Investments? My, sadly very small, company pension has grown 1,100% in 23 years. My Spanish pension 0.25% over same period. At least here in Spain the issue is 5% commission, which really screw investors if not in a long bull market, and the refusal of controlling banks to let you invest in funds that pay out only 0.75% or less to intermediary. Oh and in Spain you can’t buy directly in many foreign successful funds..
