The great comments of friends like @Summerabbacat, @drsawzall, @centexhairysub are a real testimony to the great storytelling of our dear author, whose plot twists are like Hampton Court maze… Greetings from Soria, central Spain, a virtually deserted province full of amazing medieval treasures. Fortunately, 001 and 002, the arch criminal min dachshunds have behaved really well. I will try to post a snap or two of some scandalous church statues worthy of Russ’s penthouse!!! -
But he knew Granger was heartbroken leaving Russia…. And didn’t know of affair with the Tsar, or not…….

Guess what, @rdale! Yep water pump broke after lunch again. We had arrived cold and wet to find no heating on. There were words with owner: bad cop and good cop. Guess who I was!? So now water back on, heating on so much I want to open a window!,, And on Thursday, @Mark Arbour, yes, I’m off to Medinaceli to see the Granger portraits!!!!

Was Epicurus an epicurean? The answer I was taught many moons ago was a very clear no as we struggled through Lucretius’ De Rerum Naturae. History has not been kind to the subtleties of his philosophy and his Stoic enemies won the reputational battle. -
And if we take into account his servants and their friendship with Winkler and Jacobs ……. 🧐 Waiting awhile for installments is sad but understandable given the work behind this story that Mark puts into it. As ever, your chps seem to come at the right moment to cheer me. Today was no different: we are in Soria province, in the middle of nowhere. -7°C last night with no heating and no water in our rental cottage. many thanks 😊

For fellow mega fans of Lord B, I am only an hour from the ducal palace of Medinaceli and, weather permitting, will be visiting the home of two v close friends of Granger, as he then was. @Mark Arbour should be proud of my dedication and reward me, perhaps, with a new chp in Paris. 😜 ps Gosh it’s bloody cold here in central Spain ❄️

My sister lives in a road called “Blackstitch Lane”. Sadly it’s an executive housing estate’s attempt to invoke the countryside in the heart of suburbia…. rather than those traversed by our hero. -

Anthony Bolton at Fidelity Investments? My, sadly very small, company pension has grown 1,100% in 23 years. My Spanish pension 0.25% over same period. At least here in Spain the issue is 5% commission, which really screw investors if not in a long bull market, and the refusal of controlling banks to let you invest in funds that pay out only 0.75% or less to intermediary. Oh and in Spain you can’t buy directly in many foreign successful funds.. -

I strongly recommend them to you. The language is wonderful and, interestingly, they were published by chapter and the author, like Dickens, received huge amounts of mail trying to influence the development of the story…… sound familiar? warm regards

@PrivateTim this has to stop! Yet again, I totally agree with you! @Mark Arbour has many skills but the greatest, for me, is his ability to make the change from young JP or Stef’s, etc., totally coherent if you look at them a decade later. I do hope things are improving faster in SoCal after the fires than Valencia after the October floods. The regional president is still refusing to say exactly how many hours his lunch lasted with a certain lady he had chosen to head regional TV station. Meanwhile, 227 people died from a lack of warning….
