  1. Thanks. Now I know. I grew up about 15 miles east of there! 🥰
  2. I didn’t mean to put you in a spot. I’m just trying to get a feel for where Jay’s family is from. Do they live in the heavily populated Southeastern corner along Lake Michigan, closer to Green Bay and Lambeau Field (which would make sense for professional football players), or in the small town wooded Northern part of the state. I’m sorry to have stirred this hornet’s nest!
  3. Have you figured out yet that I’m a Wisconsin Girl, born and bred? 🥰
  4. As much as Loren has shared Aiden on his website, to the point where his followers know and love him, think about how many companies are now sending baby stuff to Loren to try out!
  5. 🥰 Just a few take-aways: Jay with a puppy dog tail wagging behind him. Aiden: “Poop Potato” and “Pee Potato!” Loren in a ‘Dad Mobile.’ Loren and Aiden with matching beanies. Aiden wiped out in a pile of wrapping paper with ‘present overload’ with toy cars in each hand. Loren with the tumble-off in the pre-game…and winning! Jay picking Loren up for a special smooch after winning the Super Bowl and then refusing to let him go through the rest of the maze of interviews. The Lamborghini Trophy! 🤣 Jay tricking Loren into going to Wisconsin to meet his family. (And you still haven’t said where in WI! Milwaukee? Green Bay? Madison? LaCrosse? Menominee? Peshtigo? Do I need to guess even smaller towns? Oconomowoc? Manitowoc? West Allis? There are those who would like to know!) Jay alerting them about Sven’s report to him about Lars sitting next to him at a game, although he was unaware of who Lars was. He gave the info over to Loren’s friends/family to do with what they will. Knowing what they know about the situation and how they feel about Loren, I think they’ll do the investigation and get the details. They will then present the information to Loren and allow him to decide what the next step will be after careful consideration. They really love Loren. Jay staying after the revelation of Lars’ reappearance to simply hold Loren and let him know that, no matter what, he is loved and cherished. No matter how nonchalant Loren can seem at times, deep down, he craves that affirmation. He gets some of it from his friends/family and some of it from his followers. However, what he didn’t realize until Jay came into his life, was how much a difference that ‘one’ person can make. Loren is finding real happiness now. Cuddle up, guys!

LOL! I just pictured a cartoon-like image of a crowd of people running down a corridor, pushing Northman high up against a wall, with clouds of dust rising as they all pound past him trying to get to CJ.

    Bonding

‘If’ the bellhop gets caught!? Oh, he’ll be caught, alright. Don’t know how, yet, but something will come out. Some stranger will make a comment or a task force will find the pics. But he will be caught! Then the Chief will get involved and the bellhop will be running for his life!

What a lovely surprise this morning! Thank you, Carlos! Wow! They won! They won! Wait…we knew that. Anyway, they won! I’m almost starting to feel sorry for Northman. He’s such an idiot trying to control situations that have already been decided by higher powers in the Embassy and beyond. He still hasn’t figured out that CJ is the Embassy’s Golden Child, even if CJ hasn’t called any of this upon himself. Maybe some oblique comment will be made in the article? That would be hysterical! But, I know that won’t actually happen. Tanaka is a better journalist than that. We’re just vindictive on CJ’s behalf. 😉 Considering CJ’s future (with our 20/20 literary insight), it’s a good thing they are introducing Liebe (and later her brothers) to all these experiences—public appearances, interviews and photo shoots, meeting public people, etc. This way, she (and later, they) won’t think twice about these kinds of things when she gets older. And, yes. I loved CJ’s final comment. Considering how he fought getting involved with Ozzie in the first place, he and Liebe are now the center of his universe. I love how he is not afraid to tell, not only them, but everyone around him. Keep these coming, please, Carlos. We love them! ❤️

    Chapter 15: Hike

Milo’s message clearly was that Alec was an important person to the entire family, not just Finn. And that has not changed. This is something he really needs to hear. His mother has laid such a lousy legacy on his psyche and it colored his entire life. He was right to escape when he did, even if it hurt Finn so much. The time away has allowed Alec to mature and ‘grow up’ so that he could deal with his mother’s garbage (what is her backstory that made her so hateful, anyway), and it is now time to reconnect with Finn, which he realizes subconsciously. That’s what made him willing to actually enter the bakery half hoping Finn would be there. Milo’s greeting with the nickname from years ago, Jailbait, was actually appreciated. That alone told him he was welcome. Then, when Finn took/challenged him to a hike and wound up taking him to ‘their spot,’ well, I see the walls starting to crumble, no matter how much he tries to patch them up. Methinks Alec actually would like this relationship, or at least the friendship, to rekindle. He has missed his friend desperately, even if he won’t admit it. Finn is definitely in favor! I’m looking forward to the next chapters, especially where Alec meets the little girl. Is she the girl helping out in the bakery today? Who is she and how is she related? Oh, here’s a thought…is she a surprise baby sister for Finn and Milo? It wouldn’t be unheard of!

    Chapter 8

Yes, I did! Thanks for letting me know! I read it and commented. I must be developing a reputation if someone checks on me because I hadn’t responded to a chapter! 😄

    Chapter 7

Somehow, I missed this chapter (thanks, @weinerdog!). Wow. While Rafe is probably going to find this a very exciting place to be, I think Andre is going around with his jaw perpetually on the ground and his eyes wide open! When Rafe first asked the percentage of Andre’s surprise and he answered 20%, my eyebrows crawled way up. I mean, I know he lived in a world with magical creatures, but really? Then I chuckled as the percentage started going up higher and higher. Its going to be interesting when they actually start classes. 🫢

    Chapter 8

Wow! I am the first to read? 😲 Poor Rafe. A new skill can be so hard to master, especially by yourself. But this one seems to be pulling all kinds of tricks on him! This Rhys sounds like a real problem. Hope Beau come back soon, before trouble comes home to roost!

    Chapter 16

That was exactly where I went with that cryptic comment. He seemed to specifically seek out Hunter to make his comments. How did he get away from the witch long enough to do so? She’ll be out for him if she finds out, I think. I also thought that maybe he was apologizing for the next steps in her campaign of terror. Like I said in the last chapter, they haven’t been to a school board meeting yet. I can fully see her there with her (unsuspecting) goon squad demanding his departure and prosecution for imagined transgressions.

Great chapter, as always. I love waking up on Fridays to a CJ chapter. 🥰 Now I want to go back and reread the original confrontation with the arrogant idiot from the museum. I laughed then. I laughed today. What an idiot. Instead of doing a mea culpa, he doubled down on his insults! He really doesn’t have much of a future in this industry if he keeps antagonizing the donors!

    Second Fall

Wow! Somehow, I missed that entire sentence! That puts Vikkel in a whole new (darker) light (sic), with our 20/40 literary vision! Wow! No one has had the time to think of that, yet. They are just coming out of Threadfall and they are still in shock about her death. No one has had time to process anything yet. They will. Even if they had been able to get Healer Hold help for her arm, they had lost so much medical knowledge in the past 2500 Turns that the society had fallen back into Medieval Earth beliefs about things like surgery. Oldive was aware such a procedure was possible, but the general population was terrified by the idea. It was highly doubtful they would have been able to repair the damage to Jemina’s arm without surgery

    Chapter 35

There will always be someone who finds something to complain about. When we went to Ireland for our honeymoon, we found it hysterical that every single restaurant we went to had vegetable soup as the soup of the day. Every single place! All the way around the country! And it wasn’t was a broth with chunks of veggies like we were expecting. It was puréed! Every time! It got to be a joke! We still laugh about it 22 years later!
  19. The comments are almost as interesting to read as the chapters themselves! It’s interesting how differently people can interpret things. Some stories people get a bit off-track and those discussions can be hilarious!

    Second Fall

In the past, there were multiple barriers to divorce, the primary one being the Catholic Church, although this one is not valid on Pern since they do not have a recognized church They were the ultimate arbiter of whether or not a couple could obtain an annulment, which was virtually impossible. This is why Henry VIII started the Church of England. In addition, women had a disincentive for divorce since they would not have anywhere to go. They often had no means of support and risked losing their children and any of the possessions that made life livable and feasible. Many women had no formal education. They were only skilled in domestic skills in order to run their household. This is something the original colonists on Pern tried to avoid by making education mandatory in the Charter, but, again, that is something that Vikkel chose to ignore. A lot can be done for a person in Jemina’s situation by simply being attentive and talking with and listening to the person. My own mother suffered from depression, although she denied it. I spent many hours lying in bed with her talking about nothing and everything. We talked about her childhood and how her life turned out. We talked about my future and her hopes and dreams for me, as well as for my brother. It took several years for the cycle to break, but it finally did. Jevikel was doing the right thing. He was talking with his mother. But he’s a kid! He’s in his teens. He doesn’t have the experience to deal with this in normal circumstances. These are not normal circumstances. If he and Merida had been able to spend enough time with her, they may have been able to convince Vikkel to get the help she needed. Unfortunately, they’ll never know now.
  21. OK. I see where Cy said that as the Hunters leave for deliberation, they were fair game. I guess I read it before, but didn’t make the connection. I know Remis couldn’t see Vincent. He was using his own magic to ‘sniff’ him out. That was why he was wandering around—he was ‘feeling’ for the interloper. You’re right. I had forgotten how many shadow mages work for the EC. Since this an EC sponsored event, there have to be many there.

    Second Fall

Yes, with his mother’s death, the last reason to stay has gone. Jevikel can now leave for the Weyr with no guilt, especially after receiving Merida’s blessing on his relationship with her son. Now they just have to find the right moment during the next week, after his mother’s funeral. He would never allow himself to leave before that. Jemina was most definitely clinically depressed, which we could all recognize, but may no longer be in the Pernese medical lexicon. Jevikel knew there was something wrong—more than her arm being unhealed (likely an untreated torn rotator cup—my husband had 2 of them—not painful, but leaves your arm useless and motionless). She was also addicted to fellis, despite what the ‘others’ told him. She also spoke of feelings of worthlessness—key words for suicide. All of this was a recipe for disaster. If they had had someone with real Healer Hall training, they would have recognized it and gotten more help for her, I am sure, but again, Vikkel was too cheap to send anyone for the training or to ask for anyone to come, which he could have easily done, especially after the earthquake. At long last, Vikkel has been brought, forcibly, to his senses, and will have to make proper repairs to Pinnacle Hold, no matter the cost. He’s also going to have to put out coin for supplies for his people to survive until they can make up for the losses from that first Threadfall. He’s not going to like it, because it won’t be cheap, but he has no choice. In my opinion, which doesn’t really hold much sway, he should also be held accountable for Jemina’s suicide. He withheld proper care from her. When she didn’t return from the caves, even knowing her disabilities, he didn’t send a search party out. He really is a despicable excuse for a holder and even a human.
  23. Well, Remis may have fired the first shot before the game officially started, but, to be fair, Vincent jumped the gun by spying early, also. All’s fair in love and war, right? Looks like that was his job during the planning stage—checking for spies and espionage! Vince was lucky to get away! Cyrus may have had other reasons for putting Kaplan on the hunting team. What better way to get him noticed and accepted by everyone and to showcase his remarkable abilities. Many attendees could underestimate him simply because he is a Beta and not as big and strong as many there. Eew. Skunk scent? I’m glad I don’t have that little task! And, by the way, I thought the shifter community feared shadow mages. What happened? Its a good thing Tasha isn’t there. It just wouldn’t be nice for her to see her father humiliated like he will be, no matter how much he has disconnected with her. She can find out about it later when they can break the news to her more gently. Even if they are no longer in contact, Tasha could still have feelings about her father. I do have a question. I thought one of the rules was that the buildings were out-of-bounds. Wouldn’t that include the Conference Center? However, I do have to admit that the way they have the flag in the center of the room, surrounded by all the most powerful Alphas at the Conference, it’s going to be difficult for the hunting team to get ahold of it. I can hardly wait for the game to begin!

    Chapter 4

Large waves start as small ripples. This is the path society is on with the current outrage over a non-existent curriculum called Critical Race Theory. Civics has long been neglected in schools. Kids don’t know the history of their own regions, let alone the entire country. People are trying to censor books in Libraries because they don’t like some aspect in the book or afraid it may make their child ‘uncomfortable’ with something in their lives. (BTW, did you know that one of the top 100 censored titles is the Holy Bible? Yep. Read Solomon. Also, a lot of these titles are being returned to the shelves as cooler heads are looking at them using actual reconsideration criteria, something every Library provides.) This Nettleman is most definitely racist, falling in with the rampant right theory that if you are not white, you are worthless. He is also falling into the trap that you have to have money to be intrinsically worthy of consideration. Parker’s father is right to be furious. Now, Parker has to keep a low profile and keep quiet, which will be difficult, because the other kids will start needling him for ‘insider’ information. Com’on, Nicole! Parker needs you to come to the rescue here!
