It’s hard to understand the lack of sympathy from those other riders. You’d think that by now, they’d have seen such a wide range of reactions to grief that they would recognize D’gar’s state of shock. R’feem, for one, should have spoken to the others with their lack of sympathy. D’Gar will have to do something for J’rud. He is suffering also. Hopefully, they can help each other. I don’t remember their relationship in the first story. Thread is coming to an end. Lessa will be arriving soon (and he has the Moreta Tapestry?) which will present them with a whole new set of adventures. I hope you carry the story up into that point.

It’s tremendously difficult to face a fear that great. Just riding in the car is an achievement for him. Sitting behind the wheel and then starting the engine is not just a huge step, it was a huge leap in his progress. If they keep taking this in steps, they might actually be able to get him to handle his fears. Not get rid of them. They’ll always be there, but he will eventually be able to live and function successfully with them. Richard will be much better to help Jason. He has the patience, empathy and understanding that Margaret seriously lacked.

Somehow, I missed the Prologue and the first 4 chapters. I just binge read them to catch up. I am quite captivated and looking forward to the forthcoming chapters and the discoveries to be found about and within the temple.

I’m always excited to see a chapter of The Reluctant Consort show up in the story feed. This time was no exception. It is a good thing to see Jihan reconnect with his Ma. It was needed. He really missed that connection. Thankfully, he recognizes Duyi’s predilection to cause problems and he and Kastan can pre-empt these actions. Laner needed this reconnection, also. She will make a wonderful Grandma to all of the Princes and Adan. I love how they simply immediately started calling her Grandma. Her concerns for Jihan are also calmed having spoken with both him and Kastan and being accepted by both of them. I’m sure she was nervous about her reception by them. Now, to Andiya… Thank you for these snippets of Silver Valley. It’s always hard when a truly great story ends, but these vignettes help with small visits with old friends.

So happy to see you here with Siku’s story! I’m looking forward to reading it. I do find it surprising that there were no polar werebears in that polar enclave. If there were any anywhere, that’s where you would think to look! I wonder if they have been hiding from the brown werebears as invaders. Maybe they’ll come out and make their presence known while these ‘leaders’ are gone. That would be an interesting comeuppance for these smug guys! Hmmmmmm. 🤔

I can sympathize. We lost my Dad the day after a highly successful gall bladder surgery. The doctor was thrilled with the way he came through and recovered from the surgery. The next morning, he spoke with my Mom on the phone. 5 minutes after she had hung up and was getting ready to go to the hospital, the nurse called and told her he had had a blood clot and he was gone. My husband had to come and tell me at school (I live 1200 miles away). I had at least 3 fellow teachers holding me up and getting me into a chair. It isn’t easy. At least he wasn’t in any pain. Yes, the dragons helped, because they are so tightly entwined into the psyche of the rider that they are basically a single entity. Since dragons live in the present so much, the sorrow and grief doesn’t affect them quite so much. However, that still doesn’t negate the fact that they are human and have human emotions. Everyone heals in their own way at their own rate, and until a people go through it themselves, they have no business telling someone that they should ‘get over it!’ Thankfully D’Gar recognized that fact with Zalna and M’rell. M’rell will will be a good support for D’Gar right now, as he knows what it’s like to lose someone.

There is really nothing I can add to everything everyone else has said. We all knew this was coming. Thank you for the warning at the beginning of the chapter. It helped prepare us all and allowed us to steel our nerves for the inevitable. I truly think this was one of the hardest chapters I have ever read on this site. I hadn’t realized he had been brought back and gotten into the infirmary. I think we all assumed he was lost Between after being hit. No wonder D’Gar was so strongly affected by this. Thank you for your incredible story raft. You have an amazing gift. Please keep doing this. I hope some day to see you with professionally published books.

I loved the reunion with Karthu. It reminded me of the videos you see of vets coming and surprising family members at work or school. Always makes me smile and cry. I almost panicked when Rodney called the wights! I kept thinking, “But this is the Epilogue! He can’t be starting something with this!” You got me calmed down quickly and I loved the solution. Looking forward to Siku’s story. MIL problems, huh? That’ll be interesting. How much will she know?

Susie is an absolute gem! Not only taking responsibility as Beta and Colonel, but standing up for her trans rights to a Council, not knowing how accepting anyone might be. Kudos for Apollo for supporting her on this! Now they’re becoming Mom and Dad to confused teens and getting them up-to-speed with their heritage and everything their new lives will entail. Ramoth was rather obvious, wasn’t she? 🤭 The dragons 400 turns in the future are SO much bigger than their predecessors. Some of them were more than twice the size of the Old Ones!

They’ve been fighting Thread for 50 turns and it has taken its toll on everyone, even the youngest. But fighting it is so much a part of their everyday existence that they will find themselves at loose ends within weeks or months of the final fall. I know you said you would be finishing this by the time Lessa comes back to bring them forward, but will you continue the story long enough into her arrival and her impact on the Weyrs? Anne didn’t get into the immediate reactions so much, as she wrote from Lessa’s perspective and she was unconscious at that point! It would be interesting to see the reactions within the Weyrs, both the riders and everyone else who makes up the community.

Who is the Weylingmaster now? He is obviously not doing a good job if he missed this kid. I know, I know. Accidents happen. This kid could have been the most diligent of his hatching group, but he seems to not have been properly prepared for the reality of being ‘in the field’ with actual fighting Thread. This should have been noted before this Fall.

Thanks for the update! I went back a chapter to remember what had been happening and bring the new chapter into better perspective. Even better, I found your link to the name list at the end! Wonderful! I had been thinking about 3/4 of the way through that something like that would come in handy, especially after you put out a call for names (I hope you still have them in a file somewhere). The character list for this story is quite complex! I love it. It makes it real. Looking forward to the next installment. Hopefully, it will come soon!

I can sew and will make the sacks to kidnap and hold him hostage until the next book is ready. We cannot wait months! I don’t really think Shaw chose the wrong side. I think he was working as a double-agent and was just caught up with someone who was more powerful than he could handle. Ingles just doesn’t understand who/what they are dealing with and set Shaw up in a losing battle. I am worried about Alex. He’s getting involved in some dirty dealings. Hopefully, his reputation and Cyrus will help keep him safe.

Our DMV was infamous for the waits. You had to block out the entire day if you needed to go to the main office and not one of the satellite branches. Thank goodness AAA started offering most of those services. Since the pandemic, we now have to make an appointment to get in, but, even though we might have to wait to get one, at least we get n and out quickly now. We had to be there to take care of some plate issues and it took over 4 hours (I cannot tell you the number of people with books, snacking, knitting/crocheting, phone/tablet viewing, etc going on). The next day was when they closed up and said you had to make an appointment.

Axel and Adam and company arrive like the Cavalry! Of course! I KNEW Marcus and Rodney weren’t turncoats! I just knew there was a reason for them to be wandering out in that fog when they really aren’t soldiers. I love the idea of the tracking devices. Hopefully, they won’t be discovered and will lead our heroes to their enclave. Gary is going to rip that place, and Rieka, apart with his bare (no pun intended) hands! I can’t wait for the next chapter. I’m so glad they come so quickly!
