Hugo having arrived at Madam Woo's house is in the safest place for him right now. I'm hopeful that he will learn something in this visit that will galvanize him for the clash that has already started. As @drpaladin suggests, if Hugo can learn about the art of war, he might be able to turn Dottie's confidence into her greatest weakness.

A fun chapter highlighting so many hidden feelings. Lyn is busy hiding his feelings but also: 1. Claiming to fix the neighbour's roof, and 2. The fact that he can't swim. Meanwhile, Alexander is also hiding his feeling's for Lyn behind a facade of disdain. And all the while, Brad is secretly setting his two friends at loggerheads, enjoying the outcome of the rivalry between them. On the surface it all looks normal, but it is unsustainable and we see it playing out finally, after many years apart, at the wedding. How it will end remains a mystery, as does so much that the inimitable @Laura S. Fox sets up.

This is going to be difficult for Hugo. He needs Alec to function at his best. As @drpaladin has said, perhaps this is going to be a time for Hugo to strengthen and up his game. I'm concerned about Alec.

I think you're spot on @Seraph28. Lyn has made a life of not seeing what is in front of him. This new burgeoning relationship with Alexander is going to bring all that tumblintumblingthen he will start over, hopefully with something real.

The Watchers is unlike anything else I have read. It is not quite a science fiction nor is it a historical drama , yet it has elements of both. Hugo and Alec are two completely different men who share the limelight as protagonists. Their adventures are complex and thought-provoking, romantic and powerful. It is an absolute MUST READ!

The separation has begun and I'm gutted. Hugo will become a force to reckoned with after the betrayal and the loss, temporary I hope, of Alec. I have loved every word of this story.

This was such a juicy chapter! Hugo finally realizes what a vile move Penderslut, as @drsawzall has named him, pulled when he gifted him the watch. Dottie commiserates and shares her own story and the betrayal she experienced from her mother. As for Reed - trouble lies ahead for sure. This is a very serious predicament our men find themselves in. Im hopeful that Stoker's bravery and Hugo's wit will see them through.

Absolutely true. If you overface show jumper too young, fear gets them and they don't achieve what they might have done with a more cautious introduction to ever higher jumps.

I'm really glad that Stoker impressed the counsellors. Hopefully whatever power he would have obtained through the Aggregate, will somehow be imparted to him.

This story gets increasingly complex and we now meet Sinjin in the guise of his sister Madam Woo, whom the Bride had tried to warn them against seeing. Hugo navigates the waters of social propriety with the ease of his upbringing whilst Stoker gawks in open astonishment. How is this meeting going to play out when the director of their travels is also a character along the journey?

Hugo and Alec need to be careful. Dottie and Woo. Two powerful woman who I suspect will want Alex and Hugo to do something dangerous for them. No accepting promises of easy paths home.
