Yes, I know. Paladin in "Have Gun Will Travel" wore a black hat and was a good guy. And the Maverick brothers, Bret and Bart, wore black hats and were in sort of a gray area between good and bad, since they were a gambling duo that liked to have a good time but got into trouble as well. -
A nice feel good story where everyone is happy and excited by the end of the story. Unfortunately, Chris' story was an all to common experience with my generation, where a gay guy married a woman because he felt pressured by his family and society to do so. It was nice that this situation worked out and that Chris had his boys back and his boys had their dad again. It's just a shame that it took their mom's death to make it happen. I hope it works out and the boys enjoy having two dads.

So, sometimes a traffic accident can be a good thing. It was an interesting way to bring two high school friends back together and give Nick a chance to finally find a pair so he could ask Brock on date. I'm glad they hooked up, and I'm sure that helping Brock find a place for his photography studio helped. I enjoyed the character Mum as well, and I always love it when people come up with unusual names for their pets, and Martini definitely fits that category. Great job and I found this story and interesting and enjoyable read.

Was it an escape to safety or to oblivion?

If you're looking for a story with intriguing characters and an unusual and enjoyable take on characters that you might have seen referenced in the Bible (angels, demons, and nephilims), then this story is for you. @astone2292 gives us a highly entertaining look into a world were those groups might interact, but not as you might expect, and when you finish reading this short story, you will be left wanting more. You won't regret taking the time to read this story.

Demons, Angels, and Nephilims. A glimpse at the good, bad, and mix breeds that you will only find in the Bible. Great job, @astone2292. It was witty, odd, and intriguing and I truly enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.

Short, concise, and suspenseful. Can't wait to read more. @ReaderPaul this Reginald Barclay isn't freaking out as the one from STNG might do, and from our experience with him in the past, I doubt anyone would put him in charge of a scientific group for fear he might break down.

In early westerns of TV, the shows used to juxtapose the heroes as wearing white hats and the villains as wearing black hats. -
Oh, no! Will we be able to deal with with a young Steve?

Cowboys sit astraddle their horses, bikers sit astraddle their motorcycles, and kids sit astraddle their bicycles, just to name a few examples. -
What's the score on your premonitions so far? lol We'll see if you've got it correct or not, but I'm not sure if the shaman would be testing Mac if he did that, or testing Gramps and Pops, because I'm sure they be alert to something like that first. Even if the shaman warns them it is coming, they probably wouldn't take a chance that it wasn't something else and not the shaman. I'm glad you're still enjoying this story.

Yes, feeding pet outside can lead to attracting other animals to the dinner bowl. As far as that large raccoon, I was just thinking it got fat eating food humans left out for pets or trash, but that won't work if it was tall as well. Maybe it had crossedbred with another animal or it was merely a freak of nature.

Hmmm, was that how they came up with the name Bangladesh? A bangli at the eastern tip of India?
-
Don't feel bad, Terry. I thought of the same thing.

I'm sure the red color would also attract humans who would like to squash it. Thank you for the info.

Yes, it would be interesting to learn how such an obstacle would be overcome, and maybe we'll get to learn that information, although Mac/Michael seems to be dead set against transitioning into a skunk. The shaman has merely used the idea as a threat. Yes, Mac has learned to be more observant about his surroundings, and you're correct, that's also a good trait for humans as well, especially when you're out in the wild.

That is an interesting concept to keep the varmints out of the house. Thanks for sharing it, Anton.

My, my, Terry. I didn't know this chapter would get you thinking about tails like that. hehehe It would have been interesting to find out, though. And yes, raccoons may be very cute, but they can also be very aggressive, so you don't approach or deal with them lightly. It is best to steer clear of them, or at least give them a wide berth.

Yes, that's very true Anton. Mac/Michael is learning that when you're no longer the predator, you become the prey. And I liked your title suggestion, For Whom the Dinner Bell Tolls. Very clever.

I'm glad, Chris, because I always worry about how much detail I should include in each chapter and try not to over do it. It's nice when I get feedback that tells me the readers enjoy the details that I've included.

Thank you for the feedback, Jim, and I'm glad you're enjoying this story. Yes, many animals are very protective of their young and they will attack animals that are much larger than themselves. It's interesting that the dog protected its owner, rather than itself.

Raccoons are curious and intelligent animals, which means they can sometimes become a problem, especially when they live near humans. However, your comment about them entering the house as raccoons would only work with Devin's family, but I doubt they would be too surprised if the boys did that. However, they couldn't do that with Mac's family, since he doesn't want his parents to know what he is capable of doing.

Yes, raccoons are cute. It's probably why these used one for the Ranger Rick magazine.

Chapter 32 – The Last of the Predators When we woke the following morning, we ate breakfast and then got started working on the mountain lion again. The process was going much faster than with the previous animals, and even after having taken the entire weekend off, I managed to successfully transition into a mountain lion again. The shaman only noticed a couple of minor issues I had to improve on, and once I did that he felt we were nearly done. Since it was going so well, the sham
