I think Devin and Mac have already proven their commitment to doing things for the community with their visit to the hospital at Christmas, but they could also do something like you suggest as well. First of all, the rapist had a knife and he could have injured or killed Devin. Second, someone else may have spotted him and reported his location as being the rapist.
