(Elliot Taylor) I kept looking around Mcdonalds, which is only slightly different than the ones I was used to back in my world. It is brighter with more colorful displays of deals and booths, along with the loud and happy chatter of families. I remember this was typical when I was still a kid, but things like this disappeared over the disappointing decade of unrest. It should be a joyous scene, but I also look in wonder at the individuals within the fast-food chain. My inner voice offe

Think of him as a brutal realist without the restraint of conscience and blinded by bitter empathy. A trillionaire person with a God complex isn't far off, whether it is historical or modern examples, we've got tons of people like that. In their eyes, why do "Ineed to obey the old moral order if the power I possess matches the power of God". Ultimately, the root is that human beings upon such discoveries and access are no longer bound by humanist concepts. At this moment, we have breakthroughs in Cold Fusion technology, quantum communications that can bypass the laws of nature, and even Artificial intelligence that can perpetuate our beliefs and ideas long after we are dead. The question isn't whether we will have the power of God or Gods as depicted in various religious belief systems, but what we will do when someone achieves it. The framework of nation state system comes from the idea of social contracts establishing checks and balances, but enforcing those checks and balances is a belief that the individual "are endowed by their creator/nature" with certain rights. If a single man can hold the power of God, how could such a social contract exist anymore? How can nation states and hierarchies exist? The human framework of beliefs and ideals will be utterly shattered, since all old laws, belief systems, and boundaries would cease in this kind of world.

Funny enough, I referenced the song in my fanfic two weeks ago I was wondering if anyone remember the Bee Gee's or the song. Personally, I like the more contemplative First of May, which is a more softer track from Bee Gees.

An eye for an eye will leave the world blind Escalation for human stupidity is all too common, but there's sometimes no recourse except escalation other than destruction. This was one of my old test pilot stories, just to gauge if there's enough reader interest. I wrote it before Oppenheimer was even conceived as a movie, but I had the creator of the Atomic Bomb in mind, with a bit of Elon Musk's ego, Steve Jobs' functional realism, and Henry Ford's Draconian idealism. Geopolitically, the big picture from this story is a massive disruption of the global order, the end of nation-states using nuclear arms as leverage in actions, whether it is Russia or US or China. What is created though is not a utopian ideal of peaceful coexistence, like Star Trek, instead it's one based on supreme firepower and highest ground for a lifetime. If I did continue with this story, I'd explore what a lifetime under such a society would look like.

Neat, The Fly is technically body horror and science fiction, so it counts

It's not hard to pick a few movies like Psycho, Sleepaway Camp, or Nightmare on Elm Street with homoerotic or LGBT subtext or titular characters from the community. However, none of those films exhibit positive LGBT themes in their exploration of the subject. Psycho- Norman Bates identifies as his abusive mother in the form of crossdressing and manipulating his voice to match hers. Sleepaway Camp- Angela Baker is psychologically and physically abused by her aunt to become an idealized girl, but in fact, spoiler Nightmare on Elm Street 2 - Jesse is a boy, who has various aspects that suggest he's not heterosexual. However, the villain identifies his nascent sexual awakening and wishes to invasively take him over. All of these movies are horror classics for various reasons, but in the modern lens, the themes they represent seems to echo transphobic and homophobic undertones from mental instability being the root of trans identity to heterosexual romance being the cure for nascent adolescent homosexual desires. ------------------- I wonder, are there positive LGBT themes in horror? Modern horror films has featured gay characters, but more often they are side characters. Side character from Bride of Chucky and Cursed may be gay and friendly, but they're bit characters with very little plot. Any suggestions for this genre or observations

See, you learn something new from @W_L I'm not just a fan of Science fiction, I am also a pseudo-historian of the genre. I like those little details about the social commentary within a story and what it says about the people and society. The movie was in production when the first season of Quantum leap was filmed, the episode broadcasted 6 months before the movie premiered.
-
I threw in a few jokes and references for those who got it. An interesting fact about the Quantum Leap episode "The Color of Truth", it premiered in May 1989 before the movie Driving Miss Daisy premiered in December 1989, which held similar themes and settings. It's a very memorable episode in the 1st season of the show, while the subject matter may seem dated in 2023, back in 1989, it was a more powerful reflection on the corrupt natures of racist views that still permeated the American consciousness from generations of segregation.

(Elliot Taylor) As I wake again, someone begins speaking in my voice. “Your life is messed up, dude.” I open my eyes and stare around the now-empty room, but there was no one around. “Jeff’s probably calling Dave, so he doesn’t get in trouble for being a bad wingman. If Dave is going through what I am, he’s going to be scared shitless hearing Jeff’s voice over the phone. So, we don’t have much time for a conversation without sounding like we belong in an asylum.” Realizi

This is ancient, but honestly, just write what makes you feel makes you happy. I've written some HP fan-fic too, just not on here. I like the idea that Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder version) was a Wizard from the Harry Potter universe, maybe even a member of the big Weasley family tree, who just changed his name when he left the UK.

You can, just be smart about why you're asking. Most people in our field knows a lot of personal information and are bound by secrecy like lawyers, heck some of us are lawyers Here's an interesting example of what you are referencing, a heterosexual female wanted to be exempt from foreign bank account reporting and some income taxation, so she skirted the IRS by holding the account. Under EU-US tax law, technically the account would have been taxable in theory, I learned that she had a domestic partnership with another person to obfuscate this. Interestingly enough, while gay marriage is recognized in this EU country, so are domestic partnership from the older laws. Essentially, there's a loophole currently that allows you as a US citizen to shelter income under the protections of your EU partner from this old law that was meant to be a stepping stone for gay marriage (To me, if you have gay marriage you should remove these kinds of old laws from an administrative standpoint). It's purely a business relationship, despite the gender of the partners. So, that's one example where same sex grouping may not be in an LGBT relationship. I dislike the idea of people abusing laws that originally were meant for gay couples who had no other choice, but it's fairly common among those with means and reasons to do so.

As a Tax practitioner and EA as well, I can relate, you meet a lot of interesting people in the practice with different circumstances. I do it as a side business for both profit and enjoyment to work on other people's affairs. Heterosexual relationships are also complex, one male client who owns a business is married to a woman for 30 years, has children around 12 and 15 with another woman he claims as dependents, and another child with another woman who is around 14 that he removed as dependent so the third woman can claim separately. I can tell he has the money and the means to support them. It's a curious reality and situation, but I'm a student of history, I know that polygamy and polyamory technically was normal among those with means and ability. Christian traditions turned against it, only for common folks (Popes, nobles, and Kings had public consorts). He was not the only man with such relationships I've met, among what we would call the high income earners of $1 million+/annual. One interesting thing many may find odd though, if so many people with money are promiscuous or having poly relationships, why don't they just make it official or seek redress for their "bastard" children to be acknowledged? @gdaniel That's the rub, they come from your generation, when such relationships are open secrets and not meant to be publicly acknowledged due to "common decency". People cling to false sense of morality despite the reality sometimes being far different than what is preached or taught even in the realm of heterosexuality. So if you apply those lessons to homosexual relationships, it's hard for people not to have judgements on just a normal gay couple.

Thanks, like I said I am playing with my imagination in this story. I am glad others enjoy it. Feels like a lot of the older Sci-fi no longer get any fanfare or love, so I want to re-explore them again.

(David Freeman) Jealousy is an awful emotion, especially if it is undeserved. Elliot and I have no real emotional bond, except surface attraction, and no shared happy experiences except a few fleeting moments of tenderness. Looking at these two, despite the odd pairing, they share something that words cannot define. It reminds me of a memory. Growing up in Fort Lauderdale where the first camps were built in 1984, I was curious as to what type of people would be brought in. I imagined t

@ComicalityThere's also another aspect too with sexual intimidation based on the books and stories I've read in recent years. Sexual healing seems to be a big thing in some writers. Sometimes it's due to the characters' closeted nature, so after they do the deed, they are completely different. Sometimes, there's an underlying psychological issue that sex helps alleviate (usually found in BDSM and power-exchange genres). When you create characters with complex backgrounds or plot setups that require a sexual release, it makes sexual intercourse harder to execute. Realistically, the type of sexual scenarios authors develop are often contrived in order to fit their intended plots. However, due to the contrivance in the scenarios, I think good authors find ways of using the detail of the sexual encounter to help make the story flow better or make us forget how contrived he plot point is. There are very few authors who can manage low-level abstract sex scenes with complex LGBT characters. Mark A. Roeder's rural 1970s setting lends itself to abstract scenarios, but even so, I do find some of his books like Nudo Twins to be glossing over a lot of the sexual chemistry that the genre of sexual healing would have entailed since I can tell he was uncomfortable exploring homosexual relations between gay twins.

Elliot' has some psychological attachment in his adult character within my story, not really issues per se, but after everything that happened in that movie, it's kind of self-explanatory pathos, He's easier to understand for his character motivations. David on the other hand is more complex and nuanced. In the movie Flight of the Navigator, he reconciles with his little brother, Jeff, who in an alternate history as a 16-year-old, helped him without reservation. There's a great deal of guilt and insecurity that underlines David and Jeff's interactions due to David being missing for 8 years between 1978 to 1986, along with a deep bond between the brothers. I took that angle along with some creative liberties about David's personality and sexuality based on Paul Reuben, That's where his psychology is coming from. Writing fanfiction to some authors, even on GA, is an uncreative exercise, but to me, it's an exploration of the characters as they were and what they could be, if you are willing to invest time in the original content and reasonings behind motivations. Creativity can be born out of abandoned stories.

The original movies are just the template for the the main characters. Let's just say, I have a few interesting directions to take them in

Thanks, I'm not sure how many people are reading this fan-fic, but I am glad I got someone's attention. @akascrubber If you are still reading, one thing you will notice about this chapter is the stuff I mentioned, there's an obvious attraction between them based on a unique bond of experiences that no other human being has, but their environment doesn't permit any kind of sexual relationship. Even so, little things like coffee and muffins or chicken soup on the doorstep are still possible. Even when we cannot take actions or speak words, the unspoken acts and feelings expressed in them are there. @chris191070 I hope you are ready for some test balloons, I want to see if I can write a complex relationship before I start on Chip's story from my As True As it Can Be series. While dissimilar in genres, I'm taking core elements of Chip's story from Charles Dickens Oliver Twist and the parallelistic romance from Tale of Two Cities. I've never written complex parallelism within romance plots that Dickens used in ToTC, but I like the idea. Essentially it's a love triangle with mirrors and inverted characteristics between different characters with similar motivations behind a massive epic story arc. Beyond Imagination will be my test of concept, building on what others have done. @Clancy59 Hopefully, you still find the story interesting and engaging. ----------------- Some interesting things to think about: By 1991, the damage was already irreversible in Soviet Union as East Germany and Baltics had left the USSR sphere. Yeltsin had won the presidency and a showdown would occur. In our history, Boris Yeltsin stayed in Moscow and had rallied popular sentiment to turn against the minority Communist party and KGB coup leaders. In this story, instead, Yeltsin went to a Cold War Era nuclear air base to rally support among military units, while an active Civil War was taking place. Due to the internal focus of US policy, which had intensified over the years due to various moves Some apologist obscure this fact due to Christian value orientation, but racial segregation was still a major topic in the 1980's especially among Christian Conservatives who championed "fair" deals for those that did not want to integrate. One of the major policy points of the Evangelical Right was the issue of merging "White Christian" children with non-Christian minority children, polluting good American morals and values. In our history, the US Supreme Court did rule that outside municipalities where diverse population would continue to be integrated, but non-municipal areas outside major urban center did not need to integrate. This helped create the so-called "White flight" phenomena, where populations of white families moved into the suburbs to avoid integration. However, despite this, urban centers still maintained a decade of racial integration practices, creating a much more diverse and liberal urban society, which today adds to the polarization of US political spectrum. In this reality, the Supreme Court went one step further and invalidated the Civil Rights Act, causing vast social issues with incomplete integration and various problems. Selective segregation would rise under such a ruling. While I love @dkstories Do Over series for what it covered on LGBT history during that era, it was lacking commentary on race relations and Christian Fundamentalism during the 1980s and early 90s. Those issues are staples for Science Fiction and fantasy in the era, so I'm going to tackle them as well.

Chapter 2: August 20th 1992 (Elliot Taylor) I wanted to forget and leave it all behind me, but I couldn’t. When he confirmed that everything, I remembered was real, I couldn’t ignore the voice in my head any longer. For years, I forced myself to accept the world as it was, believing nothing I felt or wanted would matter. All the experiences of connection and understanding beyond human comprehension were just childish dreams. Then, the proverbial pandora’s box was opened when I kne

That's the human condition, we don't act rationally. They probably could help each other, but both have been hiding this secret for years at this point. If you've seen both movies, they both depict Elliot and David being held by US government due to their involvement with aliens. The main villains of ET and Flight of the Navigator were humans. David had it worst out of the two, being denied access to family and held against his will by scientists seeking to extract his precious knowledge (He basically has the entire Encyclopedia Universe in his head as part of another alien experiment). David knows too much, but cannot act on it. David remembers a timeline of where his little brother actually lived as well (Flight of the Navigator takes place in 1978 and alternate 1986). For David, he knows of a different timeline, where things weren't as bad for his family (and possible gay people) as they are in his reality. He internalizes a lot of this, blaming himself for the current state of the world. Elliot was always empathetic in ET, ET's influence and his symbiotic relationship shaped him. He and ET were "we" at one point, so memories/thoughts were shared. However, Elliot remembers what happened with the government stalking him and nearly dying due to the ignorance within human science. Different Sci-fi writers explore time travel concepts in different ways, I personally want to explore the impact of what the characters lose in the process as much as what they gain. --------------- This isn't a straight up Romance, they're attracted to one another due to similarities and shared experiences, but neither of them are willing to explore it. This is a very repressive environment that really doesn't make gay relationships easy, not to mention David might have bit of kinkier side

September 10th 1990 (Elliot Taylor) And so it begins, whatever this is. I’ve just been living my life, keeping a low profile and hiding the fact that nothing seems right. I want to tell everyone what I remembered before the world changed, but the idea of men in white lab coats dragging me away or being locked in a government vault somewhere haunts my dreams. While I want to believe everything that happened eight years ago was real, including the promise he made to come back for me, I’v

It does make sense and I am glad Governor Healey updated the almost quarter-century-old guidelines. As for promiscuity, personally, I have had about 11 lovers in my life. Looking back, I don't define myself as being particularly judgy, but a quickie in the bathroom or a quick romp in a car doesn't do it for me. Again, it's a matter of your personal sexuality, not merely sexual orientation. Took me a long time to understand the difference, some people are inherently sexual and some find sexuality lower on their emotional needs. Having realized I am demi as well as being gay sort of made me understand a few things about the false concepts that permeate the ideas of sexuality. There is attraction and there are emotional needs that affect what sex and interpersonal relationship entails. The old stereotype of gay and bi men being promiscuous and open to advances was how the world saw a version of us when sexual needs were repressed and encounters were fleeting. However, beyond the encounter phase, we're still human and have needs beyond pleasure and orgasms. Some people never want or never can get beyond the encounter stage of a relationship due to various issues. I am probably on the other side of the spectrum of promiscuity, but I hope my views and experiences can help.
